The U.S.-market 2024 Toyota Prius Prime is a front-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid hatchback offered in SE, XSE and XSE Premium trims. Toyota’s published figures put the SE at the top for electric range and hybrid fuel economy: up to 44 EPA-estimated electric miles and 52 mpg combined in hybrid mode. The XSE grades are rated for 39 electric miles and 48 mpg combined. All three use a 220-hp hybrid system, and Toyota estimates a 6.6-second 0–60-mph time.

Which 2024 Prius Prime trim has the most range?
The SE has the longest published electric range and the best listed hybrid-mode fuel economy. Toyota’s 2024 brochure gives the SE an EPA-estimated 44-mile EV range; XSE and XSE Premium are each rated at 39 miles. The EPA estimates below are Toyota’s trim-specific figures.
| Trim | Original launch MSRP | EPA-estimated EV range | Hybrid-mode city/highway/combined | Electric-mode efficiency | Wheels | Notable equipment |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SE | $32,675, excluding dealer processing and handling | 44 miles | 53/51/52 mpg | 127 MPGe | 17-inch | 8-inch multimedia screen |
| XSE | $35,925, excluding dealer processing and handling | 39 miles | 50/47/48 mpg | 114 MPGe | 19-inch | Heated front seats; 12.3-inch display available through package/option availability |

The MSRP figures are Toyota’s original U.S. launch prices announced October 25, 2023, not current used-car values. Toyota’s brochure identifies the ratings by grade; it does not establish that wheel size alone causes the difference.

How far can it drive on electricity?
On Toyota’s EPA-estimated figures, a fully charged SE is rated for 44 miles of electric driving, while the XSE and XSE Premium are rated for 39 miles. Actual range can vary with conditions and use; these figures are not a promise of the distance every driver will achieve.
Toyota lists 127 MPGe for the SE and 114 MPGe for the upper trims in electric mode. MPGe expresses electrical energy use in a gasoline-equivalent measure. It is not the same as miles per gallon in hybrid mode, and it should not be used as a substitute for the city/highway/combined mpg figures.

What is the Prius Prime’s MPG when the battery is depleted?
Toyota’s hybrid-mode EPA estimates are 53 mpg city, 51 mpg highway and 52 mpg combined for the SE. The XSE and XSE Premium are each listed at 50 mpg city, 47 mpg highway and 48 mpg combined. These are manufacturer-published EPA estimates for hybrid operation, not independent real-world measurements.
The Prime can operate in EV, Auto EV/HV or Hybrid mode, depending on driver selection and battery charge. EV mode uses battery power when sufficient charge is available. Auto EV/HV prioritizes electric driving but can switch to hybrid operation when more power is needed, such as on steep hills or at higher speeds. Hybrid mode combines the engine and electric motor. If regular charging is unavailable, the published hybrid-mode mpg figures are the more relevant comparison than electric-mode MPGe.

How does the Prius Prime perform?
The 2.0-liter engine is rated at 150 hp and 139 lb-ft of torque; Toyota lists 220 hp net for the hybrid system. Toyota estimates 0–60 mph in 6.6 seconds. That acceleration figure is a manufacturer estimate, and no independent timed run is established here.
The powertrain pairs the engine with electric motor-generators and a lithium-ion battery, sending power through an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission to the front wheels. Toyota’s figures describe the system’s rated output; they should not be read as a measured road-test result.

How long does home charging take?
Toyota estimates approximately 11 hours to charge using 120V household power and approximately four hours using 240V under ideal circumstances. The supplied cable works with a standard household outlet, so a separate Level 2 charger is not required for home charging, although 240V charging can reduce the estimated wait.
Toyota recommends using a dedicated GFI 15A outlet for household-outlet charging. Charging times are approximate; the four-hour estimate is specifically conditioned on ideal circumstances. The Toyota materials cited here do not establish DC fast-charging support.

What are the Prius Prime’s practical strengths and trade-offs?
Toyota lists five seats, 91.2 cubic feet of passenger volume and 20.3 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up. That makes it a small hatchback with room for passengers and everyday cargo; it is not enough information by itself to claim cargo-volume parity with any particular crossover.
- Choose the SE if: maximizing the published electric range and hybrid-mode fuel economy matters most, and its equipment suits your needs.
- Consider the XSE if: you want features such as heated front seats and are comfortable with the lower published range and mpg figures.
- Consider the XSE Premium if: its additional premium equipment is valuable to you; check the exact vehicle’s window sticker or equipment list because package and option details matter.
The trim comparison is based on Toyota’s 2024 brochure and grade information. It does not establish real-world range in winter, long-term reliability, or how a particular used example has been maintained.
What did each 2024 Prius Prime trim cost new?
Toyota Motor North America announced original U.S. launch MSRPs of $32,675 for SE, $35,925 for XSE and $39,370 for XSE Premium on October 25, 2023. Each figure excludes dealer processing and handling. These are historical launch prices, not current 2026 used-market prices; actual used values depend on date, mileage, condition, location and trim. No current local listing or used-price sample is established here.
Warranty and scheduled maintenance
Toyota’s 2024 brochure describes the hybrid battery warranty as 10 years from first use or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first, subject to terms and conditions. It describes ToyotaCare scheduled maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles and roadside assistance for three years with unlimited mileage. Warranty and program terms govern coverage, so buyers should review the applicable documents for the specific vehicle and ownership circumstances.
