They differ most in drivetrain, reported range, and acceleration. The four were not all available at launch: U.S. sales began in January 2024 with RWD and Long Range AWD.
2024 Model 3 Highland trims at a glance
“Highland” is the informal name commonly used for the refresh; Tesla’s owner’s manual calls this generation “2024+ MODEL 3.” The table shows figures reported in a vendor-hosted MY2024 comparison document. Its range and acceleration values are useful for comparing the configurations, but they are not a substitute for checking the EPA listing and build details of a specific car.

How the four configurations differ
Rear-Wheel Drive
The RWD configuration is the entry point in the four-trim comparison. The document reports 272 miles of EPA-estimated range and a 5.8-second 0–60 mph time. It uses rear-wheel drive rather than the dual-motor AWD setup of the two AWD trims.

Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive
This single-motor, rear-wheel-drive configuration is the range-led choice in the comparison: the document lists 363 miles and 4.9 seconds from 0–60 mph. Those are reported comparison figures, not a guarantee for every wheel or vehicle configuration.
Long Range All-Wheel Drive
Long Range AWD combines dual-motor all-wheel drive with a reported 341-mile range and 4.2-second 0–60 mph time. Compared with the listed Long Range RWD figure, it gives up reported range while adding AWD and quicker acceleration. The comparison document also lists premium audio for this configuration; check the individual vehicle’s build sheet to confirm equipment.

Performance All-Wheel Drive
Performance AWD has the quickest reported 0–60 mph time in the table, at 2.9 seconds, alongside a reported 303-mile range. The comparison lists 20-inch wheels and performance-specific equipment. Confirm the actual wheel setup and included features on the specific car, since equipment can vary.
Which 2024 Model 3 trim should you choose?
- Choose RWD if your priority is the lower-entry configuration and rear-wheel drive meets your needs.
- Choose Long Range RWD if you want the highest reported range among these four configurations and do not require AWD.
- Choose Long Range AWD if dual-motor all-wheel drive and quicker acceleration matter more to you than the comparison’s highest range figure.
- Choose Performance AWD if the strongest reported acceleration and performance-focused hardware are the priority, and the shorter listed range is an acceptable trade-off.
This is a comparison of the specifications reported for the listed configurations, not a road test or a prediction of real-world range. Range in use depends on the particular vehicle and conditions; use the EPA record for the exact model and wheel option when comparing cars.

Availability and launch-era prices
The full-year comparison set should not be mistaken for the launch lineup. TechCrunch reported on January 10, 2024 that U.S. sales began with RWD and Long Range versions. At launch, the report gave starting prices of $38,990 for RWD and $45,990 for Long Range, and described Tesla-claimed ranges of roughly 272 and 341 miles, respectively. These are launch-era U.S. figures, not current prices or a complete accounting of every 2024 configuration. See the January 10, 2024 TechCrunch report for that launch context.
Long Range RWD and Performance AWD appear in the later full-year comparison set; do not assume they were available from the January launch. Tesla’s current Model 3 specifications describe a later lineup and should not be used to infer historical 2024 trim availability or pricing.
