The 2024 Subaru BRZ tS paired the BRZ’s 228-hp, rear-wheel-drive layout with STI-tuned dampers and upgraded Brembo brakes, while keeping its six-speed manual. Its announced U.S. price was $36,465 including Subaru’s stated destination charge, before taxes and other transaction costs. Car and Driver reported a 5.5-second 0–60-mph time in its test; that is a publication result, not a guarantee for every car or condition.
What the 2024 BRZ tS adds
The tS was the range-topping 2024 BRZ trim, based on the Limited and focused on chassis and braking hardware rather than extra engine output. Subaru retained the same naturally aspirated 2.4-liter SUBARU BOXER four-cylinder used across the range: 228 hp at 7,000 rpm and 184 lb-ft at 3,700 rpm. Power goes to the rear wheels through a close-ratio six-speed manual and a TORSEN limited-slip rear differential. The U.S. tS was not offered with an automatic transmission.
| Area | 2024 BRZ tS equipment |
|---|---|
| Suspension | STI-tuned front and rear Hitachi dampers |
| Brakes | Brembo system with gold-painted four-piston front and two-piston rear calipers, larger pads and rotors; Subaru lists 12.8-inch front and 12.4-inch rear discs |
| Wheels and tires | 18-inch dark gray wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 summer tires, 215/40 R18 85Y |
| Cabin details | Blue accents and stitching, Ultrasuede and leather trim, STI-branded gauge cluster and STI start button |
| Equipment inherited from Limited | Heated mirrors, eight-speaker audio, blind-spot detection with lane-change assist, rear cross-traffic alert and steering-responsive headlights |
EyeSight driver-assistance technology was standard across the 2024 BRZ line, including manual-transmission models. Subaru described the tS brakes as intended to enhance “stopping power, fade resistance and pedal feel”; that is the automaker’s product claim, not an independently measured finding. See Subaru’s October 26, 2023 pricing announcement and 2024 BRZ specifications.
How it drives, according to Car and Driver
Car and Driver describes the BRZ as having strong steering feedback, composed cornering, and a chassis that can be steered into a tail-out attitude. The publication says the ride is firm, but contributes to the car’s playful character; it also credits the tS’s suspension and brake upgrades with improved road manners. These are Car and Driver’s impressions, not firsthand observations from this article.

Car and Driver recorded 5.5 seconds from 0 to 60 mph in its manual 2024 BRZ tS test. Test results depend on the car and testing conditions, so treat that number as the publication’s result rather than a promised acceleration time. Its 2024 BRZ review provides the driving impressions and test result.
Price and the limits of “under $40,000”
Subaru announced a U.S. MSRP of $35,345 for the 2024 tS. Adding the stated $1,120 destination and delivery charge brought the announced total to $36,465. That historical figure explains the under-$40,000 framing; it is not a current new-car transaction price or a used-car valuation. It excludes tax, registration, dealer-installed equipment and other charges. Subaru noted that destination could vary in certain states and was higher for Alaska retailers. See the official price announcement and Car and Driver’s summary of the tS price and changes.

Fuel economy, tires and everyday trade-offs
Subaru’s published estimate for the manual BRZ is 20 mpg city, 27 highway and 22 combined. The automatic’s separate estimate is 21/30/25 mpg, but it does not apply to the manual-only U.S. tS. Subaru specifies premium unleaded gasoline. These are manufacturer estimates, not a real-world result for this review. The figures appear in Subaru’s 2024 BRZ brochure.
The original-equipment Michelin Pilot Sport 4 is a summer tire, not an all-season tire. It may not suit cold or wintry conditions. For a replacement, verify the car’s fitment and the tire’s size, load and speed ratings, as well as whether its seasonal performance suits your climate; the specified size is 215/40 R18 85Y.

Is the tS worth choosing over a BRZ Limited?
The tS makes its clearest case for a buyer who specifically wants a manual, rear-drive coupe and values factory-fitted dampers, larger Brembo brakes and its 18-inch summer-tire setup. To decide whether those additions justify the price difference for you, compare the trims’ actual prices and equipment, especially suspension, brakes and wheel-and-tire configuration. The evidence here does not establish that the tS is the best choice for every BRZ buyer. The practical compromises to weigh are its firm ride, manual-only configuration and summer tires.
