The 2024 Shelby Super Snake is Shelby American’s limited-edition celebration of the Ford Mustang’s 60th anniversary: an S650-based conversion offered with either 480 horsepower or more than 830 horsepower. The supercharged version pairs Ford’s Gen 4 Coyote 5.0-liter V8 with a 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger, while the listed starting price is $159,995 on a specific manual-transmission Mustang GT basis.
What the 2024 Shelby Super Snake actually is
Introduced on April 18, 2024, the Super Snake is a Shelby American vehicle built from the new-generation S650 Mustang. It is not a regular Ford factory trim; Shelby American converts and documents the cars through its own program. Shelby describes the model as a limited-edition performance car created for the Mustang’s 60th-anniversary year.
Joe Conway, Shelby American’s CEO, said the company designed it “to be the pinnacle of our performance cars based on Ford’s world-class Mustang sports car.” Shelby’s announcement also describes the car as “pure American performance,” while Vince La Violette, the company’s vice president of operations and senior designer, called it the most technically sophisticated Shelby Super Snake to date. Those are Shelby’s characterizations, not independent performance rankings.

The headline figure is therefore 830-plus horsepower, not a measured independent dyno result. Shelby’s launch material says the 830+ figure uses 93-octane fuel in the United States and 98-octane ratings in Europe and some other markets. The product page also bases its horsepower ratings on 93-octane fuel, so fuel grade and market matter when comparing specifications.
No official source supplied here publishes independently verified acceleration, top speed, braking distances, or lap times. It is accurate to call the Super Snake an 830-plus-horsepower Shelby conversion; it is not supported to call it objectively the quickest Mustang or faster than a named rival.
Price and what the starting figure means
Shelby’s current product page lists a $159,995 starting price. That figure is based on a 2024 Mustang GT with a manual transmission and the 401A equipment group. It is a configuration-based starting price, not a universal price for every body style, transmission, option, tax, registration charge, or dealer transaction.
The April 18, 2024 launch announcement said pricing would be announced later. The $159,995 figure should therefore be presented as the current product-page listing and described with its stated vehicle basis, rather than as the price announced at launch.

How many were made?
Shelby American says U.S. production is limited to 250 cars for model year 2024, with limited availability worldwide. The launch release said production was planned to begin in mid-summer 2024; that statement describes the plan announced at the time and does not establish a final realized build count.
U.S. examples are offered through Shelby-selected Ford dealers, and Shelby says each vehicle is recorded in its official registry. A registry entry and a 250-car U.S. allocation are not the same thing as proof that all 250 cars were ultimately built or sold.
Mechanical and chassis hardware
The Super Snake’s equipment is more extensive than an engine upgrade. Listed hardware includes:
- Shelby cooling upgrades, including a radiator and heat exchanger.
- Borla exhaust.
- Performance half-shafts.
- Suspension upgrades.
- 20-inch forged magnesium-alloy wheels with performance-specification tires.
- An upgraded brake-rotor package.
Exact availability depends on the selected transmission and body style. Buyers should verify the build sheet rather than assume every item appears on every car.

Exterior equipment and body-style differences
The body package includes an aluminum hood, carbon-fiber extractors, wide-body components, a front splitter, a diffuser, and a rear wing on coupe models. Shelby lists both coupe and convertible versions, but the equipment is not identical between them: the rear wing specification is identified for coupes, and other components can be manual-, coupe-, or convertible-specific.
That distinction matters when comparing photographs, dealer descriptions, or used listings. A convertible should not be represented as having every coupe-only aerodynamic component without checking its individual specification.

Manual versus automatic
The published starting-price basis is a manual-transmission 2024 Mustang GT with the 401A package. Shelby’s equipment notes identify some parts as transmission-specific, so the automatic version should be evaluated as a separate configuration rather than treated as an identical car with a different gearbox.
Coupe versus convertible
Both body styles are part of the program, while certain aerodynamic and body components vary by style. The coupe is the version for which Shelby specifically lists a rear wing in the body-equipment description.

Naturally aspirated versus supercharged
The 480-hp car avoids the supercharger system; the 830-plus-hp version adds the 3.0-liter Whipple package and associated cooling requirements. The choice is therefore a powertrain and specification decision, not merely an output setting.
Warranty and Ford coverage
Shelby’s product page states a three-year/36,000-mile limited warranty for the original owner only. The launch announcement separately says Ford’s powertrain warranty remains intact. Those are distinct claims: Shelby’s limited warranty has its own duration and ownership qualification, while the Ford powertrain coverage is described as remaining in force.
Warranty terms can depend on the exact vehicle, work performed, and governing documents. Before purchase, obtain the Shelby warranty paperwork and Ford warranty documentation for that VIN, and confirm how coverage transfers, which components are covered, and where claims must be handled.
What to verify before buying
- Confirm the identity. Check that the car is an S650-based Shelby Super Snake and that its Shelby documentation and registry information match the VIN.
- Confirm the powertrain. Determine whether it is the 480-hp naturally aspirated version or the 830-plus-hp Whipple-supercharged version, and note the fuel-grade basis for the advertised output.
- Read the configuration sheet. Verify transmission, 401A basis, coupe or convertible body style, wheels, tires, brakes, cooling parts, exhaust, and aerodynamic components.
- Separate price from transaction cost. Use $159,995 only as Shelby’s listed starting price on its specified manual 401A 2024 Mustang GT basis; ask for the complete delivered price.
- Check warranty documents. Confirm the original-owner limitation on Shelby’s three-year/36,000-mile coverage and the precise Ford powertrain terms for the vehicle.
- Validate provenance. Ask the Shelby-selected dealer for build records and registry confirmation, especially for a used example.
Why the “birthday cake” metaphor fits
The Mustang anniversary framing is more than a paint-and-badge exercise. Shelby takes Ford’s current S650 platform and layers on an available 480-hp or 830-plus-hp powertrain, upgraded cooling, half-shafts, suspension, brakes, wheels, tires, exhaust, and extensive carbon-fiber and aluminum bodywork. Limited U.S. production of 250 cars makes the celebration deliberately scarce, while the supercharged specification turns the anniversary special into an extreme, specialty-built Mustang rather than a normal catalog trim.
