For U.S. shoppers considering a 2024 three-row midsize SUV, the supported choices include gas and hybrid models as well as fully electric options. But the available sources do not establish the original article’s exact ten-vehicle lineup, so this guide focuses on the six models they substantiate rather than inventing a ranking or filling out a list with unsupported picks.
Which 2024 midsize SUVs are supported by the available information?
Edmunds’ October 18, 2023 preview, hosted by the Associated Press, called several upcoming vehicles “worth waiting for.” It covers the Kia EV9, Hyundai Santa Fe, Chevrolet Traverse and Honda Prologue. A separate Edmunds comparison, published October 11, 2023, looks at the 2024 Honda Pilot and Toyota Grand Highlander. These sources support discussing six models, not reconstructing a definitive ten-SUV list.
The Santa Fe is described in the preview as having a three-row cabin, while the Prologue is presented as Honda’s electric entry. The preview does not establish detailed specifications for either; consult current manufacturer information for exact equipment, pricing and availability. Read the AP-hosted Edmunds preview.
How do the Grand Highlander and Pilot compare?
For families weighing two conventional three-row choices, the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander and Honda Pilot offer different powertrain approaches. In its 2023 comparison, Edmunds reported the Grand Highlander with a 265-horsepower turbo-four and an EPA-estimated 22–24 mpg combined, depending on configuration. Its regular hybrid was reported at up to 36 mpg combined. The Pilot’s 285-horsepower V6 was reported at 20–22 mpg combined, depending on configuration. These are estimates for the model year and configurations described, not guaranteed real-world results.

The cargo and fuel-economy figures come from Edmunds’ 2023 comparison hosted by AP; they are model-year-specific reported figures, not independent test results in this article. The Grand Highlander’s reported cargo advantage is modest, so families should check whether the actual third row and luggage area suit their passengers and typical loads. Choose the Pilot TrailSport for its stated rough-road equipment

All-wheel drive is standard on TrailSport and Elite and available on other listed trims. These features make TrailSport the clearest choice among the models covered here for added rough-road equipment; they do not establish comparative off-road performance. Kia EV9
Kia describes the 2024 EV9 as its first dedicated three-row electric SUV. That makes it a distinct alternative for shoppers who want an electric family vehicle rather than a gas or hybrid SUV. Kia released U.S. trim pricing in October 2023, but those launch figures should not be treated as current prices. Compare present-day trim availability and pricing, and assess whether charging access and usable cabin space meet your needs. Kia’s 2024 EV9 overview and Kia’s October 2023 pricing announcement.

Honda Prologue
The contemporaneous Edmunds preview identifies the Prologue as Honda’s electric entry for 2024. The cited material does not provide the details needed here to compare its range, charging, price or seating space with the EV9. Verify those specifications and the availability of the exact model and trim you are considering using current Honda information.
Quick Recap
How to decide whether to wait for one
- Start with the people and cargo you actually carry. A three-row label does not guarantee that the third row or the space behind it will work for your passengers and luggage. Try the seats and bring a representative load when comparing vehicles.
- Match the powertrain to your routine. The Grand Highlander offers gas and hybrid approaches; the EV9 is fully electric. Consider how you will fuel or charge the vehicle alongside its purchase price and usable space.
- Choose capability by use, not the biggest number. The Traverse and Pilot have announced towing figures of up to 5,000 pounds, subject to equipment and vehicle-specific limits. TrailSport is the Pilot trim with the clearest documented rough-road hardware in this group.
- Recheck the exact model year, trim and price. The cited prices are historical launch MSRPs, and availability changes. Confirm the current listing, destination charge, incentives and dealer stock in your area before deciding to wait or buy.
- Check accessories for vehicle-specific fit. Honda names roof boxes and crossbars among Pilot cargo solutions. Before choosing a rooftop cargo box for any SUV, verify rack fit, roof-load limits and box dimensions for that exact vehicle.
