Edmunds describes it as comfortable, spacious, well appointed and fun to drive, while Car and Driver praises its driving experience and accurate steering. These are reviewer assessments, not a guarantee that every driver will prefer its character.
The cabin presentation is a strength, but equipment changes by trim and package. Compare the specific vehicle’s features rather than assuming every CX-50 has the same interior appointments or safety equipment.

Ride and steering feel
The CX-50 can feel firm over the road, and its steering can feel heavier than some rivals’. Edmunds and MotorTrend identify those traits as potential comfort trade-offs. Mazda revised the dampers and recalibrated electric power-assist steering for 2024, so assessments of earlier model years should not automatically be applied to this one. Trim and wheel setup also matter; drive the exact version you are considering on roads you know.

In MotorTrend’s first test of the Turbo Meridian, the rear seat and cargo area felt tighter than those of the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. That is a specific reviewer’s comparison, not a universal measurement of every family’s needs. If you regularly carry passengers or bulky gear, bring your child seat, stroller or usual luggage and check the fit in the actual vehicle.
Rotary-dial infotainment controls
MotorTrend reports that its staff was divided over Mazda’s rotary-dial infotainment controls. This is a matter of preference: try common tasks, such as selecting audio or entering a destination, during a test drive before deciding whether the interface works for you.

Which engine makes sense?
Mazda’s U.S. specifications distinguish the engines and, for the turbo, the fuel grade used to achieve its stated output:

What equipment and capability should you verify?
Mazda lists Smart Brake Support with pedestrian detection, Blind Spot Monitoring, Driver Attention Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go among the standard active-safety features. Confirm the exact vehicle’s market specification and package content, particularly on a used example.
Towing capacity depends on configuration and accessories. Mazda states that select packages can tow up to 3,500 pounds; a 2.5 S can tow up to 2,000 pounds when equipped with Mazda Genuine towing accessories. These are maximums for the stated configurations, not blanket ratings for every CX-50 or hitch setup.

What should you check on a used 2024 CX-50?
Inspect condition and service history
Ask for maintenance and repair records, listen for unusual noises, and inspect the cabin and cargo area for signs of water intrusion. Consumer Reports displays individual owner comments mentioning a panoramic-roof rattle, rear-hatch water leak, hood vibration and other noises. These anecdotes do not establish how often such problems occur or prove a systemic defect; ask whether any concern was diagnosed or repaired and review the documentation.
Check the VIN for open recalls
Recall campaign 25V167000, Mazda campaign 7225C, covers certain 2024–2025 CX-50s equipped with Mazda Genuine Accessory trailer hitches. The hitch assembly bolts may loosen, allowing the assembly to separate; the reported remedy is dealer tightening at no charge. Not every CX-50 is covered. Check the specific VIN and confirm any required repair is complete before towing. Recall status can change, so verify it at purchase.

Confirm tire size and condition
Mazda’s 2024 owner manual says to use the specified tire size and maintain the recommended pressure and load limits. Check the vehicle’s tire placard and manual for its exact trim rather than relying on a generic fitment recommendation.

Compare the CX-50 with alternatives in the same trim and price range, then evaluate the differences that matter in daily use:
