Lexus reported 246 hp total system output and 37 city/34 highway/36 combined mpg for the AWD configuration in its brochure search result. RX 450h+: electric miles depend on charging
Lexus gives the RX 450h+ an EPA-estimated 37 miles of electric-only range and reports 83 MPGe combined. MPGe is an energy-equivalent measure, not gasoline mpg, so it should not be compared directly with a conventional vehicle’s mpg figure. After its electric range is used, the vehicle uses gasoline; the benefit of the plug-in system therefore depends on charge frequency and trip length.
The RX 450h+ includes a 120-volt Level 1 charging cable and has a J1772 inlet. Lexus estimates a full charge at about two and a half hours when using maximum 240-volt current with the standard 6.6-kW onboard charger, under ideal conditions. To decide whether the plug-in makes sense, consider your typical daily distance, access to charging at home or work, how often you take longer trips, local electricity prices, and whether you value electric driving enough to charge regularly. The published figures do not by themselves establish a current cost-of-ownership comparison.
RX 500h: performance hybrid, not plug-in
The RX 500h F SPORT Performance combines a turbocharged engine and electric motors for 366 hp and 406 lb-ft of total system output. It uses a six-speed automatic and AWD with Lexus DIRECT4 control. Choose it for the performance-oriented powertrain, not for plug-in electric range.

How safe is the 2024 Lexus RX?
Lexus says Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 is standard on the 2024 RX. Listed functions include pre-collision support with pedestrian detection and Proactive Driving Assist. These are driver-assistance features, not autonomous driving; their operation depends on circumstances and system conditions.
For the 2024 model, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) designates the RX a Top Safety Pick, but the award does not mean it earned the top rating in every test. IIHS lists these results:

What should you check before buying one?
- Confirm the exact configuration. Match the VIN and window sticker to the claimed grade, powertrain, drivetrain, and installed equipment. The six grade names do not imply that every powertrain is offered in every grade.
- Compare like with like. Include purchase price and equipment, gasoline versus hybrid or plug-in energy use, charging access and likely electric-mile share, performance priorities, and front- versus all-wheel-drive availability.
- Check the individual vehicle’s condition and price. Lexus announced a $49,950 starting MSRP for the 2024 RX in August 2023, and a separate $70,080 starting MSRP including delivery, processing, and handling for the RX 450h+. - Keep comparisons specific. In an April 3, 2024 Associated Press comparison published by Edmunds, the RX offered a broader powertrain range and better fuel economy in the configurations compared, while the Genesis GV80 was favored for ride comfort and overall preference in that comparison.
