The 2024 Indian FTR 1200 update is primarily a styling refresh, not a documented mechanical redesign. Indian Motorcycle’s 5 March 2024 international-dealer announcement introduced four new color treatments: Indy Red for the FTR, Granite Gray Blue and Storm Gray Black for the FTR Sport, and a red-accented FTR R Carbon with a new carbon-fibre body set. The FTR Sport and R Carbon remain distinct equipment grades, while the FTR x 100% R Carbon is a separate, limited co-branded edition.
What actually changed for 2024?
Indian’s published material supports changes to paint, graphics, bodywork and component finishes. It does not document a redesigned engine, chassis overhaul or across-the-board performance revision. The word “sexier” is therefore a styling judgment: the meaningful changes are the new color contrasts, carbon panels and premium suspension details.
FTR: Indy Red replaces the understated look
The standard FTR’s new Indy Red treatment combines a prominent FTR logo and white accent with a black frame and black wheels. Indian lists a liquid-cooled V-twin producing 92 kW and 120 Nm for this model in the color announcement.
FTR Sport: more bodywork and two contrasting schemes
The Sport adds a number plate, chin fairing and seat cowl, giving it a more finished streetfighter profile than the standard bike. Granite Gray Blue uses a contrasting blue logo, blue wheels and blue shock spring. Storm Gray Black instead pairs dark bodywork with red wheels and a red frame.

FTR R Carbon: carbon panels and red Öhlins details
For 2024, Indian gives the R Carbon a carbon-fibre body set and, for the first time on this model, a prominent FTR logo. Red accents, frame and wheels contrast with gold-finish Öhlins suspension and a yellow shock spring. The model also carries fully adjustable Öhlins suspension, 17-inch cast wheels, Metzeler Sportec tires and dual radial Brembo brakes.

Indian’s equipment listings for the Sport, R Carbon and limited editions include traction control, cruise control, a 101 mm RIDE COMMAND touchscreen, Bluetooth and Rain, Standard and Sport ride modes. Navigation availability can vary by country, and international models may differ from the US-market presentation.

The FTR x 100% R Carbon is not just another paint option
Indian announced the FTR x 100% R Carbon as a separate collaboration built on the R Carbon. The launch allocation was 400 motorcycles worldwide, with 250 offered outside North America. Its blue carbon-fibre bodywork, white frame, co-branding, titanium Akrapovič exhaust and Gilles Tooling components make it materially different from the regular red-accented R Carbon. Those quantities describe the launch announcement, not current dealer stock.
Core engine and chassis specifications
The 2024 Polaris owner’s manual groups the standard FTR, Sport, R Carbon and named limited editions around a 1,203 cc, liquid-cooled, 60-degree V-twin with a six-speed constant-mesh transmission. Published torque figures must stay attached to their specific versions: Indian quotes 120 Nm for the standard FTR, while its 2023 FTR x 100% R Carbon launch announcement quotes 118 Nm.

- Road-wheel tire sizes: 120/70 ZR17 58W front and 180/55 ZR17 73W rear in the manual’s non-Rally column. Confirm the exact trim, load/speed rating and wheel before ordering a replacement.
- Rally caveat: The manual lists a separate wheel and tire configuration for Rally models, so the road-wheel sizes should not be assumed for every FTR derivative.
What the refresh means for a buyer
Choose the FTR for the cleanest new look
The Indy Red standard model delivers the 2024 visual update without the Sport’s extra panels or the R Carbon’s premium hardware. It is the straightforward choice when color is the priority.
Choose the Sport for added visual definition
The number plate, chin fairing and seat cowl give the Sport a more layered silhouette, while the blue or red chassis accents make the trim immediately identifiable.

Choose the R Carbon for hardware as well as appearance
The R Carbon’s carbon-fibre bodywork is paired with adjustable Öhlins suspension and Brembo radial brakes, so its distinction is not cosmetic alone.
Treat the 100% edition as a collectible collaboration
Its limited allocation and unique exhaust, carbon and co-branded parts place it in a different category from a regular production colorway. Availability depends on market and remaining stock.
Regional availability and current pricing
The March 2024 announcement concerned international dealers, and Indian cautions that international models may vary. Color availability, equipment, navigation functions, pricing and dealer inventory are therefore region-specific. Check the local Indian Motorcycle site or dealer for the exact specification offered in your country rather than assuming the US or EMEA presentation applies everywhere.
