DrivingOnRoad’s July 13, 2025 review covers the second-generation, gas-powered Kona Limited, which the publication describes as the range’s highest-priced and most luxurious trim. The Limited uses the turbocharged engine also fitted to the N Line. It is distinct from the Kona Electric, whose equipment and specifications should not be applied to this gasoline model.
The original U.S. starting price reported in the review was $31,800, with AWD adding $1,500. Those are historical review-era MSRP figures, not current dealer pricing or a guide to today’s used listings.
How it looks and feels inside
Unmistakable exterior styling
The review describes the Kona’s connected light bars and sharply expressed design as polarizing. That is the reviewer’s reaction, not a consensus among buyers; the test car wore Neoteric Yellow, a particularly vivid finish.

DrivingOnRoad criticized the cabin’s hard plastic surfaces but noted a 12.3-inch touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto across trims. Its Limited test car also had Bose audio, heated and ventilated front seats, a surround-view monitor, wireless phone charging and a hands-free liftgate. Equipment can vary by vehicle, so confirm the build sheet and operation of each feature on a specific used Kona.
Passenger room and cargo capacity
The review reports 25.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row and 63.7 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. It characterizes front and rear legroom as generous, while finding rear shoulder and hip room tight. The cargo figures make the Kona worth considering if you want a small crossover with room for luggage or bulky errands, but rear passengers should check the fit in person.

Turbo power and acceleration
For the 2024 lineup described in the review, SE and SEL trims use a 2.0-liter engine rated at 147 hp. N Line and Limited models use a 1.6-liter turbo rated at 190 hp and 195 lb-ft, paired with an eight-speed torque-converter automatic.
DrivingOnRoad found the turbo and eight-speed combination smoother in traffic than the prior model’s seven-speed dual-clutch setup, but slower in acceleration. The publication recorded 8.48 seconds from 0 to 60 mph in its own test; that is a result for its test vehicle, not an official Hyundai figure or a guarantee for every Kona Limited.
