The 2024 Honda XL750 Transalp is a middleweight adventure bike built around a 755cc parallel twin, 21-inch front wheel and electronic ride modes. Its published U.S. specifications make it a pavement-and-dirt-oriented package, but they do not establish how comfortable, capable or easy to manage it feels in every situation. Here is what the 2024 U.S.-market model includes—and what the available test information can and cannot tell you.
What the 2024 U.S. Transalp is designed to do
American Honda announced the XL750 Transalp for the U.S. market on September 19, 2023, positioning it as a middleweight adventure bike between the Africa Twin and CB500X in its “True Adventure” lineup. Honda describes it as an all-around model for pavement and unpaved-road exploration; that is the manufacturer’s intended role, not proof of suitability for every rider or terrain. Honda’s U.S. launch announcement presents the positioning and accessory collections.
Honda’s 2024 U.S. specification sheet lists Matte Black Metallic. Color availability can vary by market, and Honda notes that specifications may change; California models may differ slightly because of emissions equipment. The figures below refer to the U.S. 2024 release, not later model years or overseas configurations. Honda’s 2024 U.S. specifications.
Engine and performance hardware
755cc parallel twin and six-speed transmission
The engine is a liquid-cooled, 755cc inline two-cylinder four-stroke with a 270-degree crank and a six-speed manual transmission. Honda’s sheet specifies a 24.5-degree cylinder-bank angle, Unicam overhead-cam valve train with four valves per cylinder, 87.0 x 63.5 mm bore and stroke, 11.0:1 compression, and PGM-FI with 46 mm throttle bodies. Final drive is by chain. These figures describe the hardware; they are not independent measurements of acceleration, fuel economy or durability. Honda’s specifications and Honda’s feature description explain the design.

Honda highlights the crank layout and compact Unicam cylinder-head design as part of the engine’s character and packaging. Those design claims do not, by themselves, establish how the bike performs on the road.
Chassis, suspension and braking
Long-travel suspension
The steel-frame chassis uses a 43 mm Showa SFF-CA inverted fork with spring-preload adjustment and 7.9 inches of travel. At the rear, a Pro-Link system pairs with a Showa remote-reservoir shock and provides 7.5 inches of travel. For the 2024 U.S. model, Honda’s specifications list spring-preload adjustment; do not assume damping adjustments found on later versions are included. Honda says this suspension is intended to balance bump absorption and on-road comfort with off-road control. That is Honda’s description, not an independent ride finding. Wheels, tires and brakes
The wheel setup is 21 inches front and 18 inches rear, with 90/90-21 front and 150/70R-18 rear tires. Braking consists of dual 310 mm front discs with two-piston calipers and ABS, plus a 256 mm rear disc with a single-piston caliper and ABS. The wheel sizes and equipment support Honda’s adventure-bike positioning, but do not define the bike’s limits on any particular trail.
Size, weight and fit
Honda lists a 33.7-inch seat height, 8.3 inches of ground clearance and a 61.5-inch wheelbase. The published curb weight is 459 lb, including required fluids and a full fuel tank, and fuel capacity is 4.5 gallons. These are useful screening figures if you are assessing reach, garage space or a loaded-bike scenario, but specifications alone cannot tell you how manageable the Transalp will feel at a stop or on uneven ground. Ride modes and electronic controls
Five modes, with adjustable settings
Honda lists five riding modes: Sport, Standard, Rain, Gravel and customizable User. The modes coordinate engine power, engine braking, ABS and Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), which integrates wheelie control. Honda describes four preset combinations plus User customization. Its stated adjustment ranges are engine power levels 1–4, HSTC levels 1–5, and engine-braking levels 1–3; in User mode, the rider can switch off rear ABS. Honda’s features and benefits.
These controls provide a way to select or tailor the electronic settings Honda identifies for different conditions. The feature list does not establish that a particular mode is best for a rider, surface or level of experience; the appropriate choice depends on conditions and the rider’s judgment.

Rider Magazine’s November 22, 2023 review listing describes a two-day, 250-mile test in central Pennsylvania, including backroads around State College and a section of the PA Wilds Backcountry Discovery Routes. That establishes the stated route and distance, but the available summary does not provide enough detail to support specific conclusions about comfort, handling, acceleration, wind protection or off-road limits. It would be misleading to treat those impressions as established here. Rider Magazine’s review listing.

How to judge whether it fits your riding
The 2024 Transalp’s published equipment points toward a mixed-use adventure format: a 21/18-inch wheel combination, long-travel suspension, ABS and configurable electronic aids. Whether that translates into the right bike for you depends on practical questions the spec sheet cannot answer.
- Check the fit in person: the 33.7-inch seat height and 459-lb curb weight are starting points, not a substitute for testing your reach and low-speed control.
- Match the bike to your routes: Honda’s stated aim is pavement-to-unpaved-road versatility. Do not read that positioning as a guarantee for technical trails or every kind of terrain.
- Try the controls: confirm that the display and mode-selection process make sense to you, and understand the effects of changing ABS and traction-control settings.
- Verify the exact bike: confirm model year, market configuration and any California-specific differences with the seller or Honda documentation.
American Honda’s launch announcement also identifies Adventure, Touring, City and Comfort accessory collections. Check current availability and exact model-year fitment before choosing any accessory; the announcement does not establish current stock. Honda’s U.S. launch announcement.
