The 2024 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray marked the C8’s fifth model year without changing its defining formula: a mid-mounted 6.2-liter V8, rear-wheel drive and an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Chevrolet added equipment and appearance options, while the broader 2024 Corvette lineup introduced the all-wheel-drive hybrid E-Ray. The Stingray still paired sports-car performance with practical touches such as two cargo areas, though independent reviewers noted compromises in visibility and access.
What “five years into” the C8 means
The C8 debuted for the 2020 model year, making 2024 its fifth model year. That milestone is a useful way to frame the car: Chevrolet was refining a successful mid-engine design rather than replacing its basic performance recipe. The indexed summary of the June 13, 2024 article by Jody Only framed the Corvette around exotic styling and track performance alongside daily usability; that summary is not a substitute for a firsthand test account.
The Stingray’s core formula stayed intact
The 2024 Stingray kept a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter LT2 V8 mounted behind the passenger compartment, driving the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Chevrolet’s 2024 specification sheet lists a 0–60 mph time of less than three seconds when the Stingray is equipped with the Z51 Performance Package. That is Chevrolet’s conditional manufacturer claim, not an independently verified result here. Chevrolet’s 2024 Corvette Stingray specification sheet provides the model-year specifications.
Chevrolet describes the mid-engine layout as one that “optimizes weight distribution for greater performance in a straight line and on a track.” That is the manufacturer’s characterization; the practical significance is that the C8’s engine placement distinguishes its architecture from previous front-engine Corvettes.

What Chevrolet changed for 2024
The fifth-year updates focused on colors, cabin choices, convenience and available equipment—not a new Stingray powertrain. Chevrolet’s 2024 sheet lists these additions and changes:
- New exterior colors: Riptide Blue Metallic, Cacti Green and extra-cost Sea Wolf Gray Tricoat.
- A power hood pull-down and two new available wheel designs.
- More stripe accent-color choices, an Artemis interior option, available engine appearance packages and new engine-cover finishes.
- Several driver-assistance features listed as standard, a rear camera mirror standard across trims, and Performance Data Recorder availability on 1LT.
These details broadened the ways buyers could configure the car, but they did not alter the basic rear-wheel-drive Stingray layout.

Stingray and E-Ray: related cars, different drivetrains
The 2024 Corvette family expanded with the E-Ray, a hybrid that adds an electric front axle and all-wheel drive. It should not be confused with the Stingray: the Stingray is a rear-wheel-drive V8 model, while the E-Ray combines a V8 powertrain with electric front-wheel propulsion. The distinction changes the drivetrain and the character of the car, so performance figures or efficiency claims for one version should not be applied to the other. Car and Driver’s Corvette overview identifies the Stingray’s V8 and dual-clutch transmission, while Consumer Reports’ 2024 Corvette overview discusses the broader lineup.
Performance, visibility and daily use
Independent reviews support the idea that the C8 can be engaging beyond a straight-line specification sheet. Consumer Reports says its team was impressed by the Corvette’s performance and fun-to-drive nature. Edmunds’ 2024 test account praises its performance and handling, but also points to limited rear visibility and the challenge of getting in and out. Those are review observations, not claims that every driver will experience the car identically. Edmunds’ 2024 Corvette review gives its test context.

The Stingray also has two cargo areas, with Chevrolet listing 12.6 cubic feet of total cargo volume across them. That combined figure is the manufacturer’s measurement; it does not mean all the space is in one conventional trunk. The layout offers useful storage for a sports car, but the split compartments and visibility trade-offs are part of living with a mid-engine design.
Fuel economy: distinguish the estimate from the test
Edmunds lists an EPA-estimated 19 mpg combined for the 2024 Stingray. Separately, the outlet reports 21.8 mpg on its own mixed-driving evaluation route. The latter is a review test result, not an EPA rating, and it should not be treated as a guaranteed real-world figure. These Stingray figures do not describe the E-Ray. Edmunds’ review and test report is the source for both figures.

What the fifth model year adds up to
The 2024 Stingray was a refinement year, not a reinvention. Its mid-engine V8 architecture remained the headline; updated colors, materials and equipment made the model more configurable, and the E-Ray gave buyers a distinct hybrid, all-wheel-drive alternative within the Corvette family. For a driver considering the Stingray as a road car as well as a performance car, the relevant trade-off is clear: substantial performance and split cargo storage come with the visibility and entry-and-exit compromises noted by reviewers.
