The 2024 Cadillac XT4 feels more premium chiefly because of its redesigned front end and standard 33-inch display—not because Cadillac changed its engine or transformed its driving character. The refresh gives the compact SUV a more modern cabin and adds standard driver-assistance features, but independent reviewers still point to cabin materials and refinement as areas where it trails the segment’s strongest offerings.
What changed for 2024?
Cadillac’s February 20, 2023 announcement describes a mid-cycle refresh, not a new generation. The XT4 retains its 2.0-liter turbocharged engine and nine-speed automatic while receiving revised exterior styling, cabin trim and colors, a larger integrated display, and an expanded standard safety suite. Exterior: the front carries most of the update
The redesigned fascia, grille, headlamps, and vertical lighting signature are the most obvious visual changes. Premium Luxury and Sport receive distinct grille and trim treatments, and Cadillac lists new 18- and 20-inch wheel designs. Does the new cabin feel more premium?
The refresh’s biggest everyday difference is the standard 33-inch diagonal LED display, which Cadillac says spans the driver’s viewing area and has a stated 9K resolution. The customizable interface combines the instrument display and infotainment screen in one wide panel. Cadillac also lists Google built-in capability and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Google service availability and functionality can depend on the vehicle, location, plan, and account; those capabilities should not be read as a guarantee that every online service is always available or included. Cars.com calls the display the refresh’s most significant upgrade. Car and Driver says the screen is crisp and can be operated by touch or with a console-mounted knob. Those are meaningful improvements to the interface, but they do not settle the question of cabin quality: Car and Driver criticizes the lower-level materials relative to segment expectations. Audio equipment varies by vehicle
Cadillac lists available AKG audio, but its launch materials describe the system as both 13-speaker and, elsewhere, 14-speaker. How does the 2024 XT4 drive?
The North American XT4 uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four rated at 235 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 258 lb-ft of torque from 1,500 to 4,000 rpm, paired with a Hydra-Matic nine-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard; twin-clutch all-wheel drive is available. Cadillac says the powertrain is unchanged for 2024. Car and Driver characterizes the XT4 as responsive around town, but says the Sport AWD it tested falls short of stronger rivals in acceleration and road manners. Its assessment is closer to boulevard cruiser than sporty SUV. How much room is inside?
Cadillac’s North American specifications list 39.5 inches of rear legroom, 22.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seat, and 48.9 cubic feet with the rear seat folded. Separately, Car and Driver reports that six carry-on suitcases fit behind the rear seat and 18 with the seatbacks folded in its own luggage test. The cubic-foot figures are manufacturer measurements; the suitcase counts are the publication’s test results, so they are different measures rather than directly interchangeable capacity claims. When cross-shopping, compare the specific vehicles on the details most likely to shape daily use:
- Rear-seat space and cargo room, especially if you regularly carry passengers or bulky items.
- Cabin materials and ride refinement, not just the size or appearance of the display.
- Infotainment controls and connected-service needs, including which features work in your location and under your account or plan.
- The driver-assistance equipment actually included on the trim and package you are considering.
Is the 2024 Cadillac XT4 worth considering?
The XT4’s refresh makes it more convincing as a technology-forward luxury crossover: the large display is standard across the three trims, the front design is sharper, and the standard safety equipment is broader. But the unchanged powertrain and reviewers’ reservations about materials and refinement keep “closer to premium” from meaning best-in-class. It is worth a look if its space, styling, and screen appeal to you; judge the cabin and ride in person, and compare the exact safety and audio configuration on the vehicle you would buy.
Cadillac Global Vice President Rory Harvey said the XT4’s “balance of dynamic style, drivability and luxury has made it a favorite for many new Cadillac customers.” That is the manufacturer’s characterization, not an independent market finding.
