BMW quoted a 0–60 mph time of 4.1 seconds for the manual and 3.9 seconds for the automatic. Those figures describe the launch-era 2024 specification—not the more powerful 2025 update.
What the 2024 BMW M2 is
The G87-generation M2 is BMW M’s compact, two-door, four-seat performance coupe. For the U.S. launch-era 2024 model, BMW specified a 3.0-liter S58 inline-six, rear-wheel drive and a choice of two transmissions. BMW Group described the car as combining “compact dimensions, an inline 6-cylinder engine, a manual gearbox, rear-wheel drive, and advanced technology,” calling those elements central to its appeal. That is the manufacturer’s positioning, rather than an independent assessment. BMW Group’s October 2022 U.S. launch announcement provides the launch-era specifications.

These are BMW’s launch-release figures for the U.S. model, not independently measured results. The release lists the same engine output and peak-torque range for both transmission versions.
Manual or automatic: what changes?
Both versions send power to the rear wheels. The manual pairs the engine with a six-speed gearbox; the optional automatic is an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic. BMW’s quoted acceleration estimate favors the automatic by two-tenths of a second.

The figures are BMW claims from its launch announcement, not independent test results. As a general distinction in how the cars are configured, the manual gives the driver direct gear selection, while the automatic shifts for the driver and has the quicker quoted 0–60 time; the choice is about preferred involvement as well as acceleration.
Why the 2025 M2 figures are different
BMW announced a U.S. update for the 2025 M2 in June 2024. That model’s output increased to 473 hp, and its peak torque differs by transmission: 406 lb-ft for the manual and 443 lb-ft for the automatic. These updated numbers should not be used as the specifications for the launch-era 2024 U.S. car. See BMW’s June 2024 announcement of the 2025 M2.

Model-year labeling matters when checking BMW pages: a page with “2024” in its URL may display newer figures, while BMW’s global 2024 material describes a different market specification, including 480 hp and M xDrive availability. Neither is a reliable substitute for the U.S. launch-era 2024 specification described here. The U.S. model covered in this overview is rear-wheel drive and rated at 453 hp.

The launch specifications establish the U.S. model’s engine output, transmission choices, claimed acceleration, body dimensions and seating. They do not establish an independent real-world acceleration result, a road-test verdict, a verified equipment list, current or original transaction pricing, or ownership costs. Treat those as separate questions rather than inferring answers from BMW’s specifications.
