The 2024 Audi SQ8 pairs a 500-hp twin-turbo V8 with standard all-wheel drive, five seats and a restrained luxury-SUV shape. It is quick enough to feel like a performance vehicle, yet its comfort-focused driving mode and useful cabin give it a credible everyday role. Car and Driver recorded 0–60 mph in 3.6 seconds; Audi’s own U.S. listing gives a more conservative 4.0-second figure.
What the 2024 Audi SQ8 is—and what it is not
This review covers the gasoline-powered 2024 Audi SQ8 sold in the United States. It is a five-seat performance SUV with a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8. It is not the all-electric SQ8 e-tron, which Audi lists as a separate model. The “under-the-radar” description is a characterization of the SQ8’s relatively restrained SUV form, not a measured claim about how often people notice it.
The appeal is a mix that can be difficult to find in one vehicle: strong acceleration, quattro all-wheel drive and a large, practical cabin without the silhouette of a dedicated sports car. The trade-off is that this remains a big, expensive SUV with fuel use and digital-cabin compromises that matter in daily driving.
How fast is the 2024 Audi SQ8?
The U.S.-specification SQ8 has a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 rated at 500 hp and 568 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive. The two published 0–60 mph figures describe different things: Car and Driver measured 3.6 seconds at its test track for the 2024 model, while Audi USA lists 4.0 seconds as its manufacturer figure. Neither should be substituted for the other.

For regional context only, Audi’s German-market technical sheet dated April 17, 2024 lists 373 kW, 770 Nm and 4.1 seconds from 0–100 km/h. Those figures use different units and a different market specification; they are not the U.S. rating or a directly equivalent 0–60 mph test.
What is it like to drive?
Car and Driver characterizes the SQ8 as agile and athletic when driven spiritedly, while Comfort mode brings a family-friendly ride. The publication says its drive of the updated 2024 model delivered the same athletic experience as before. That balance is the point: the SQ8 can provide V8 urgency without requiring every trip to feel like a track session.

Those are the publication’s assessments, not a first-hand drive impression here, and they do not promise the same ride on every road or for every driver. Buyers choosing among modes should consider whether they want the firmer, more responsive character associated with spirited driving or the calmer setup Car and Driver describes in Comfort mode.
What does a 2024 Audi SQ8 cost?
Audi USA lists a starting MSRP of $96,600 for the 2024 SQ8. Car and Driver’s U.S. specification listing shows Premium Plus at $97,795 and Prestige at $104,795. Audi says its listed MSRP excludes destination, taxes, title, options and dealer charges, and that actual dealer prices vary.

Can the SQ8 work as an everyday family SUV?
It seats five, with a spacious rear seat and a capacious cargo area, according to Car and Driver. Its listed cargo volume is 31 cubic feet behind the rear row and 61 cubic feet behind the front row. Those figures make the SQ8 more than a fast front-seat experience: there is room for passengers and luggage on longer trips.

The weakness is small-item storage. Car and Driver describes the cabin’s cubby storage as below average, a practical drawback for people who regularly carry phones, bottles, keys and other loose items. The cabin uses dual touchscreens and Audi Virtual Cockpit, with Wi-Fi hotspot, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto listed as standard connectivity. That digital setup will suit drivers who like screen-based controls, but may frustrate those who prefer physical climate buttons.

Car and Driver reports EPA estimates of 15 mpg city, 21 mpg highway and 17 mpg combined for the 2024 SQ8. The publication says it had not run the vehicle on its own 75-mph highway fuel-economy route, so those numbers should be treated as EPA estimates rather than a Car and Driver real-world highway result.

Audi’s German-market sheet reports combined fuel consumption of 12.0–12.8 L/100 km. That is a separate market’s specification and homologation context; it should not be directly compared with the U.S. EPA mpg figures as though both came from the same test cycle.
What equipment and safety features are listed?
Car and Driver’s U.S.-model coverage lists automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control with lane centering among the SQ8’s standard driver-assistance features. These are equipment descriptions, not a crash-test rating; no crash-test result is established here.
How do international SQ8 figures differ?
Specifications vary by market and use different units. Audi Japan’s October 24, 2024 release lists the Japanese SQ8 at 507 PS, 770 Nm, with an eight-speed Tiptronic transmission and quattro, and a Japanese-market price of ¥16,260,000. These are Japanese-market figures, not U.S. horsepower, equipment or pricing. Audi’s German technical sheet separately lists 373 kW and 770 Nm. Keep these regional references distinct from the U.S. 500 hp, 568 lb-ft and MSRP figures.
