The 2022 Ford Edge ST pairs a manufacturer-rated 335-hp twin-turbo V6 with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive, giving Ford’s midsize SUV a clear performance focus. But its appeal depends on what you want from that focus: MotorTrend found the ST’s ride overly stiff, while the specifications alone cannot establish how it compares with rivals in real-world acceleration or handling. Equipment also varies by market, so the Mexican, Caribbean and U.S.-oriented sources should not be treated as one universal specification sheet.
What makes the 2022 Edge ST different?
The ST is the performance-oriented Edge trim, distinguished most clearly by its engine and chassis tuning. For the 2022 Mexican-market model, Ford lists a 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 rated at 335 hp and 380 lb-ft of torque. Those are manufacturer specifications, not independent test measurements. Ford México’s 2022 Edge ST page is the source for those figures.
Ford’s launch-era description identifies an eight-speed automatic, standard all-wheel drive, selectable traction control and ST-tuned suspension for the Edge ST. That announcement introduced the ST generation in 2018, so it provides useful background rather than definitive proof of every 2022 market’s equipment. Ford’s launch announcement also calls the vehicle a “performance SUV with a track mentality”—promotional positioning, not an independent handling assessment.
How does it drive?
Power and drivetrain
The V6’s rated output, automatic transmission and AWD give the Edge ST a more serious performance specification than a routine family crossover. Ford Caribbean’s 2022 brochure likewise lists 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft, standard Intelligent AWD, paddle shifters, Sport mode and a Ford Performance-tuned suspension for its regional ST. These are Caribbean-market details; verify local equipment rather than assuming the same features are standard everywhere. Ford Caribbean’s 2022 brochure describes that configuration.

Performance claims need context
Power figures do not by themselves prove that the Edge ST is quicker or more capable than competing SUVs. The sources here do not provide a matched, common-condition comparison with rivals. Which equipment details depend on the market?
Ford México’s 2022 catalog shows a 20-inch wheel design and dual-exhaust details for its ST listing. The Caribbean brochure specifies paddle shifters, Sport mode and Intelligent AWD for that region. Neither source makes those details universal across all 2022 Edge STs, and the available material does not establish a comprehensive package-by-package feature list for every country. The Mexican-market catalog is the appropriate reference for its own configuration.
For a U.S. vehicle, use U.S.-market documentation and confirm the original window sticker or vehicle equipment by VIN. A regional brochure can explain what Ford offered in that region, but it is not a substitute for the specific car’s build details.

Is the 2022 Ford Edge ST a good performance SUV?
It has a persuasive performance foundation on paper: a twin-turbo V6 with substantial rated torque, AWD, an automatic transmission and suspension tuning intended to distinguish it from ordinary Edge trims. The strongest caveat in the cited independent review is the stiff ride. That makes the ST a more natural fit for shoppers who prioritize power and all-weather traction over a soft ride, but the available evidence is not enough to rank it against competing performance SUVs.
