The 2024 Acura TLX Type S pairs a 355-hp turbocharged V6 with standard all-wheel drive and meaningful cabin-tech updates. Cars.com’s overview praised its styling, acceleration, handling, value and technology, while flagging its touchpad interface, tight rear seat, taut ride, limited feature availability and fuel economy. Those are Cars.com’s editorial assessments, not firsthand findings from this article.
What changed on the 2024 TLX Type S?
Acura announced the refreshed 2024 TLX on November 2, 2023. Across the lineup, the update brought a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a center display 20 percent larger than the prior display, ELS Studio Premium Audio, IconicDrive ambient lighting and cabin refinements intended to reduce noise. The exterior gained a frameless Diamond Pentagon grille. Acura also said AcuraWatch functions were expanded across the lineup. Acura’s 2024 TLX announcement describes the changes.
Type S-specific updates included a new 20-inch wheel design, improved throttle response in Sport+ mode, a standard high-resolution surround-view camera and a 10.5-inch head-up display. These additions matter when weighing Cars.com’s favorable view of the car’s technology against its complaint about the infotainment controls.
What Cars.com liked
Cars.com Senior Research Editor Damon Bell’s January 16, 2024 overview identified five strengths. It is an editorial assessment, not an instrumented test; the available overview provides no acceleration time, braking distance or head-to-head score.

Styling
Cars.com counted the TLX Type S’s handsome styling among its likes. For 2024, the refreshed front end included Acura’s frameless Diamond Pentagon grille, while the Type S received a distinct new 20-inch wheel design.
Gutsy acceleration
The Type S uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 rated by Acura at 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque. A 10-speed automatic, rev-matching downshifts and standard SH-AWD complete the powertrain. Acura also says it improved throttle response in Sport+ for 2024. Cars.com characterized acceleration as gutsy, but its overview does not establish a measured 0–60-mph time.
Crisp handling
Cars.com also praised the handling. The hardware includes adaptive dampers, double-wishbone front suspension, multi-link rear suspension and Brembo four-piston front calipers. The same firm setup is relevant to the ride-quality drawback below: handling appeal and comfort over rough roads can be competing priorities.

Value for the money
Value was another Cars.com positive. That judgment should be read as the publication’s overall editorial impression, not a quantified comparison: the overview does not provide a price analysis or benchmark against named rivals.

Technology updates
The 12.3-inch instrument cluster and enlarged center display refreshed the cabin’s core screens. On the Type S, a standard surround-view camera and 10.5-inch head-up display add useful visibility and information options. Acura’s official feature sheet details the Type S equipment and powertrain: 2024 TLX Type S features list.
What Cars.com disliked
Restricted feature availability
Cars.com listed restricted feature availability as a drawback. The overview does not specify which features are unavailable or identify particular configurations, so this is best treated as a prompt to confirm the equipment on the exact vehicle rather than a claim about a specific missing option.

Touchpad infotainment controls
The center display’s larger size did not change the touchpad-based control approach that Cars.com disliked. A bigger screen can improve visibility without making the input method preferable; shoppers should try the interface in person to see whether it feels natural.
Cramped backseat
Cars.com described the backseat as cramped. That matters if adult passengers regularly ride in the second row: check the seating position and legroom with the front seats adjusted as they would be in everyday use.

The ride was another stated dislike. Adaptive dampers are part of the Type S chassis, but Cars.com still characterized the ride as taut. The short overview does not quantify ride comfort or document a road test over particular surfaces, so it does not support a more precise claim about how the car behaves on a given road.

Reduced fuel economy
Cars.com also cited reduced fuel economy as a drawback. The overview supplies no fuel-economy figure or test conditions, so it cannot establish a specific consumption rate or comparison. If efficiency is a priority, check the official rating for the exact vehicle and your local market before buying.
What to check before choosing one
Because the listed strengths and compromises pull in different directions, compare the car against your own priorities rather than treating the overview as a ranking of sport sedans.
- Power and response: Decide whether the turbo V6, SH-AWD and Sport+ throttle response suit your driving needs; no independent acceleration measurement is established here.
- Ride versus handling: Drive it over both smooth and rough roads to judge whether the taut ride is acceptable to you.
- Passenger space: Have the people who will use the rear seat sit in it before committing.
- Controls: Try the touchpad and screens directly, rather than assuming the display update changes the control experience.
- Equipment: Verify the feature list on the specific trim and vehicle, since Cars.com’s overview flags restricted availability without naming each affected feature.
- Efficiency: Compare the official rating for the relevant market with your expected use; the cited overview gives no measured result.
Factory tire size and replacement check
Acura’s 2024 Type S feature list specifies 20-inch wheels with P255/35 R20 Pirelli Cinturato P7 all-season tires, and says high-performance summer tires were available as an option. Before replacing tires, check the size and load rating on the tires actually fitted to the car and confirm its seasonal setup; the factory all-season specification may not match a vehicle delivered with the optional summer tires.

What the available evidence does—and does not—establish
Acura’s specifications establish the Type S’s powertrain and listed chassis equipment. Cars.com’s overview supplies the likes-and-dislikes framework, attributed here to Damon Bell and Cars.com. Neither cited source establishes an independent acceleration time, braking distance, instrumented fuel-economy result, head-to-head comparative score or owner-survey statistic. Acura’s November 2023 announcement also said the Type S represented nearly 25% of TLX sales at that time; that is a manufacturer statement from the announcement period, not a current sales-share figure.
