These are Toyota’s model-year specifications, not independent measurements. The engine’s naturally aspirated design and rear-wheel-drive layout are shared across the GR86 lineup. Toyota’s 2023 GR86 brochure is the source for the engine, chassis and grade equipment details.
Manual vs. automatic: what changes?
Both transmissions have six forward gears, but Toyota’s published acceleration and fuel-economy estimates differ by transmission. The acceleration figures below are Toyota estimates, not results from an independent instrumented test. Fuel economy is shown as EPA estimates reported by Toyota.

The automatic includes paddle shifters. Toyota also lists its GR86 Active Safety Suite and rear parking sonar with reverse automatic braking as available only on automatic-transmission models. Buyers weighing the two should check the specific vehicle’s equipment, since transmission choice affects which driver-assistance features are available.

2023 Toyota GR86 features by grade
Toyota offered three grades for 2023. The Anniversary Edition was based on Premium and was limited to 860 units, according to a Toyota USA Newsroom summary. Availability of individual features can depend on transmission; consult the brochure’s feature matrix and the vehicle’s original equipment information when evaluating a particular car.
GR86
The base GR86 includes a six-speaker audio system, stability control, traction control, ABS, a backup camera and seven airbags. Toyota lists the Torsen limited-slip differential and GR circuit-tuned suspension across the grades. The brochure also lists its GR86 Active Safety Suite and rear parking sonar with reverse automatic braking only for automatic-transmission models.
GR86 Premium
Premium adds comfort and appearance equipment including heated sport seats with leather-trimmed bolsters and Ultrasuede inserts, aluminum sport pedals, 18-inch matte-black-painted alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, and a color-keyed duckbill spoiler. It also includes an adaptive front-lighting system, Blind Spot Detection and an eight-speaker audio system.

Toyota’s newsroom summary gives a production limit of 860 units; that figure describes the original model-year edition, not current availability.

2023 GR86 price: what the published figures establish
Toyota’s comparison page contains conflicting 2023 starting MSRP figures, so it should not be used to state one definitive GR86 MSRP. Its comparison table lists $28,400 for the GR86 and $30,095 for the Subaru BRZ, while introductory prose on the same page lists $27,900 and $28,595, respectively. Because those figures conflict within Toyota’s own page, verify a new-car price against a contemporaneous original price announcement or window sticker rather than selecting one of them as settled.
Those historical figures are not current used-car values. The available sources do not establish present-day asking or transaction prices. A used GR86’s price depends on factors such as model grade, transmission, mileage, condition, region and sale date; compare current local listings and the individual vehicle’s history when shopping.

GR86 vs. Subaru BRZ
The GR86 and BRZ are closely related front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports coupes. Toyota’s comparison page reports 228 hp for both and lists 6.26 cubic feet of GR86 trunk volume versus 6.3 cubic feet for the BRZ. It also notes six speakers and an 8-inch touchscreen for the GR86, with eight speakers on Premium. The MSRP figures on that page conflict between its table and introductory prose, so they do not support a reliable price comparison without checking original model-year pricing documentation.

Toyota lists stability control, traction control, ABS, a backup camera and seven airbags across all grades. Blind Spot Detection is listed for Premium and Anniversary grades. Toyota’s brochure describes the GR86 warranty as 36 months or 36,000 miles for basic coverage and 60 months or 60,000 miles for powertrain coverage. Confirm coverage against the applicable warranty and maintenance guide and the vehicle’s in-service date, particularly when buying used.
The brochure describes accessory coverage as 36 months or 36,000 miles for accessories purchased with the new vehicle. For accessories purchased afterward, it states 12 months regardless of mileage, or the remainder of the applicable new-vehicle warranty if that is greater. Exact coverage should be confirmed against the vehicle’s applicable documentation.

Check the part number and fitment for the individual vehicle before ordering; listing an accessory in the brochure does not establish current inventory or compatibility with every car.
Original model-year membership offer
Toyota’s newsroom summary says each 2023 GR86 grade came with a complimentary one-year National Auto Sport Association membership featuring a High-Performance Driving Event with expert instruction. This was an offer associated with the original model year; it should not be assumed to transfer to a current used-car buyer.
