McLaren says it makes more than 840 PS, revs beyond 10,000 rpm and weighs less than 1,000 kg. Its most compelling public performance proof is a 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed Shootout victory—not a road test or a like-for-like circuit comparison.
From Gran Turismo concept to customer car
McLaren says the Solus GT began as “a radical concept car designed for virtual racing.” Its roots are in Gran Turismo SPORT, but the production car is a development of that concept, not a claim that every game-world detail carried over unchanged. McLaren describes it as a virtual-racing idea made real for 25 customers. McLaren’s Solus GT model page and its launch media release explain that origin.
The small allocation was spoken for early. McLaren’s H1 2022 investor presentation said all 25 cars had sold before public reveal at more than £3 million each; that is a dated report of the original allocation price, not a current asking price or resale valuation. McLaren’s H1 2023 interim report later recorded that all 25 were under order and that first customer cars were delivered during the first half of 2023.
What makes the Solus GT different?
A single-seat cockpit with canopy access
The driver sits alone on the centreline beneath a sliding glass canopy, which is the car’s sole access point. That arrangement makes entry and exit unlike a conventional sports car, and gives the cockpit a prototype-like feel. McLaren’s model description presents the central seat, canopy and bespoke monocoque as core parts of the car rather than styling flourishes.

Enclosed wheels and track-only purpose
Aerodynamic pods surround the wheels, while the sculpted bodywork and bespoke chassis are designed around a purpose-built track machine. Goodwood’s 2023 dynamic-debut report describes a seven-speed sequential transmission driving the rear wheels and says the car can produce up to 1,200 kg of downforce. “Up to” matters: that is a maximum figure, not a load present at every speed or in every condition.
McLaren says the Solus GT does not adhere to road or racing regulations. It should therefore be understood as a track-only special, not a road-legal McLaren or an entry in a defined homologated race category.

Engine, weight and claimed acceleration
McLaren’s current model page lists a naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 producing more than 840 PS (829 bhp), with engine speed beyond 10,000 rpm and weight below 1,000 kg. The page’s detailed overview gives those headline power figures; a compact facts panel elsewhere on the same page shows 647 PS, so that panel figure should not be treated as an explanation or replacement for the detailed specification.
Acceleration figures vary by source and date. McLaren’s current model page claims 0–100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and a 200 mph top speed. Its H1 2023 report instead listed 0–100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, alongside more than 840 PS, 650 Nm, a 5.2-litre V10 and an engine speed above 10,000 rpm. These are published claims, not a set of independently measured results, and the two acceleration figures should not be merged into one supposedly agreed specification.

What the Goodwood result does—and does not—show
The Solus GT made its dynamic debut at the 2023 Festival of Speed. McLaren factory driver Marvin Kirchhöfer won the Timed Shootout in a 45.34-second run, according to Goodwood’s Shootout report. Goodwood’s debut coverage also reports the 45.34-second winning time; Autocar reports 45.345 seconds.
That result establishes that the Solus GT delivered a winning competitive run on Goodwood’s hillclimb in 2023. It is not an instrumented circuit-lap comparison, a road-performance measure or evidence that it is the fastest McLaren in every setting. No fair head-to-head test against another car is established by these event times.

Is the Solus GT based on a Gran Turismo car?
Yes, in the sense that McLaren says its roots are in a concept featured in Gran Turismo SPORT. The customer car grew from that virtual concept into a bespoke, track-only machine; the connection does not mean the production car is simply a game model reproduced without development.
How fast is the McLaren Solus GT?
McLaren’s current model page claims a 200 mph top speed and 0–100 km/h in 2.5 seconds, while its H1 2023 report gives 2.8 seconds for 0–100 km/h. The strongest event result documented here is Marvin Kirchhöfer’s 45.34-second 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed Shootout-winning run. Those figures describe different kinds of evidence and should not be read as a direct comparison.
