The U.S.-market 2023 Mazda CX-50 came in 10 packages: six with the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter engine and four with the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine. Every version had standard i-Activ all-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic. The main differences are engine output and towing rating, followed by comfort, audio, display, wheel and outdoor-oriented equipment.
Mazda’s prices below are historical suggested MSRPs announced in August 2022, not current used-vehicle values. They exclude destination and handling.

Which 2023 CX-50 trims were available?
Mazda listed six naturally aspirated 2.5 S packages and four turbo packages for the U.S. model year. The August 2022 MSRP list below reflects Mazda’s mid-year update, including the newly listed Meridian Edition.

These are historical U.S. manufacturer-suggested starting prices from Mazda’s August 2, 2022 Meridian Edition announcement; destination and handling are excluded. Mazda said the updated list followed a $750 mid-year increase. Actual present-day prices depend on the individual vehicle and market.
What each trim adds
Within the 2.5 S lineup, higher packages mainly add convenience, seat, cabin, audio and display equipment. The Turbo packages add the turbo engine and paddle shifters; their comfort and technology equipment differs from the S ladder, so similarly named or priced packages should not be assumed to match.
2.5 S
The entry package includes an 8.8-inch display, eight-speaker audio, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the safety features listed by Mazda for the package.

2.5 S Select
Select adds dual-zone automatic climate control, rear air-conditioning vents and a 10.25-inch display.
2.5 S Preferred
Preferred adds a power liftgate, heated front seats and a power-adjustable driver’s seat.
2.5 S Preferred Plus
Preferred Plus adds a panoramic moonroof.
2.5 S Premium
Premium adds Bose 12-speaker audio and leather seating surfaces.

2.5 S Premium Plus
Premium Plus adds 20-inch wheels, ventilated front seats and a windshield-projected Active Driving Display.
2.5 Turbo
The Turbo package combines the turbocharged engine with paddle shifters. Its August 2022 starting MSRP matched the 2.5 S Premium Plus, but the two packages have different engines and equipment.

Meridian Edition is the outdoor-oriented turbo package. It has 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires and distinctive exterior garnish and graphics; Mazda also offered outdoor accessories. Its towing claim has a specific hitch condition described below.

2.5 Turbo Premium
Turbo Premium adds Bose audio, a heated steering wheel and ventilated front seats.
2.5 Turbo Premium Plus
Turbo Premium Plus adds heated rear seats, wireless phone charging, navigation and traffic sign recognition in the Active Driving Display.
Package equipment and availability can carry qualifications; Mazda’s original pricing and packaging announcement and specification deck provide the detailed package tables.

Engines, fuel, and towing
Both engines are 2.5-liter four-cylinders paired with the six-speed automatic and standard i-Activ AWD. The naturally aspirated 2.5 S produces 187 hp and 186 lb-ft. The turbo’s output depends on fuel grade: Mazda rates it at 256 hp and 320 lb-ft on 93-octane gasoline, or 227 hp and 310 lb-ft on regular 87-octane gasoline. The higher turbo ratings therefore require premium fuel; they are not the turbo’s output on regular gasoline.
Mazda lists 2,000 lb of towing capacity for the S packages and up to 3,500 lb for Turbo packages. For the Meridian Edition specifically, Mazda says the maximum 3,500-lb rating applies in Towing Mode when the vehicle is equipped with a Genuine Mazda Tow Hitch. A published maximum is not a substitute for the vehicle’s operating limits: consult the owner’s manual and confirm the exact vehicle’s equipment and towing conditions before towing.
Which 2023 CX-50 trim makes sense for your priorities?
- For the lower-output, lower-priced engine choice: Start with the 2.5 S packages. They retain standard AWD and are rated to tow 2,000 lb.
- For turbo power: Choose among the four Turbo packages, and account for the fuel grade when comparing the published horsepower and torque.
- For added everyday comfort: The S ladder progresses from climate and seat upgrades to a moonroof, leather seating surfaces, Bose audio and ventilated seats. Choose based on the specific feature you want rather than assuming each step adds every earlier feature in an identical configuration.
- For outdoor-oriented styling and tires: Meridian Edition is distinguished by its 18-inch all-terrain setup and exterior graphics; verify accessory fitment and towing equipment for the vehicle you are considering.
- For towing: Compare the rating and hitch conditions for the exact package, then use the owner’s manual for operating requirements.
What did the 2023 CX-50 cost when new?
Mazda’s February 22, 2022 launch announcement listed lower starting MSRPs than its August update. The initial prices were $26,800 for 2.5 S; $28,200 for S Select; $29,500 for S Preferred; $31,940 for S Preferred Plus; $34,400 for S Premium; $36,400 for S Premium Plus and Turbo; $39,550 for Turbo Premium; and $41,550 for Turbo Premium Plus. Meridian Edition was added in Mazda’s later August announcement. Both lists are historic U.S. suggested prices, not current asking prices; the August figures exclude destination and handling.
