What record did Verstappen break in Hungary?
Red Bull’s victory at the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix was its 12th consecutive win, surpassing McLaren’s previous benchmark of 11 consecutive victories in 1988, achieved with Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost. Formula 1’s official race report described Verstappen’s win as his seventh in a row and Red Bull’s 12th, breaking McLaren’s long-standing record: Formula 1’s 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix report.
The record belongs to the team’s run of race victories, not to Verstappen alone. The Hungarian result extended his personal winning streak to seven while bringing Red Bull’s team streak to 12.
How Verstappen and Ricciardo finished
The FIA’s final classification lists Verstappen first after 70 laps, with a winning time of 1:38:08.634. Ricciardo finished 13th after 69 laps. These figures are from the official classification for the 2023 race: FIA final race classification.

What happened to Ricciardo at the start?
Formula 1’s race report says Zhou Guanyu’s slow getaway led to contact with Ricciardo and a four-car collision at the start. Ricciardo was classified 13th. The report does not establish any additional meaning for “breaks even,” so that wording should not be treated as a verified statistic about points, a comparison with another driver, or the race result.
Why the year matters
This result is from the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix. The 2024 edition had a different outcome: Verstappen was classified fifth and Ricciardo 12th in the FIA’s provisional classification. The 2024 document is explicitly provisional, so it should not be substituted for the final 2023 record: FIA 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix provisional classification.
