The 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 is a street-legal, drag-focused special edition—and the seventh and final entry in Dodge’s Last Call series. Dodge advertised up to 1,025 horsepower, but that peak depends on high-ethanol fuel; on E10, Dodge’s stated output falls to 900 horsepower. Its headline acceleration and quarter-mile figures are manufacturer claims, while NHRA separately reported that the car received a violation letter after a sub-nine-second pass without required safety equipment.
What is the Demon 170?
Dodge introduced the 2023 Challenger SRT Demon 170 as the final Last Call special edition, built around straight-line performance. Its name reflects the 170-proof ethanol fuel capability associated with its highest advertised output. The launch was also framed as a send-off for Dodge’s HEMI muscle-car era. Tim Kuniskis, Dodge brand chief executive officer, said: “To celebrate the end of the HEMI muscle-car era, we pulled off all the governors to reach a new level, a new benchmark of ‘factory-crazy’ production car performance,” Stellantis said in 2023.
How much power does the Demon 170 make?
Dodge’s peak claim is 1,025 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 945 lb-ft of torque at 4,200 rpm when running high-ethanol fuel. On E10, Dodge lists 900 horsepower and 810 lb-ft. Those are two fuel-dependent factory output claims, not interchangeable ratings: the engine’s peak output depends on the ethanol percentage detected in the fuel. Dodge’s operating supplement describes premium gasoline capability as well as ethanol-blended fuel for maximum power. Dodge’s 2023 Demon 170 supplement explains the operating details; the launch figures were also reported by Stellantis and Dodge.
How fast is the Dodge Demon 170?
Dodge claimed a 0–60 mph time of 1.66 seconds and a quarter-mile run of 8.91 seconds at 151.17 mph, which it described as NHRA-certified. Dodge also cited 2.004 g of acceleration. These are launch-era manufacturer figures, not results from an independent instrumented test, and they should not be treated as a like-for-like comparison with performance cars measured under different conditions. Stellantis’ announcement and Dodge’s release give the claimed figures.

Why does a sub-nine-second pass raise a safety issue?
NHRA reported that Dodge received a violation letter after a Demon 170 made a pass quicker than nine seconds without a safety cage or parachute. That qualification matters: “street-legal” describes the car’s road-use status, but it does not guarantee that a drag strip will permit every pass in its factory configuration. A track’s rules and the applicable safety requirements govern whether a car can make a particular run. NHRA’s report distinguishes the record-setting claim from the safety-equipment issue.
What hardware supports the launch performance?
The Demon 170 pairs its supercharged V8 with components aimed at transferring power to the track. Dodge lists a 3.0-liter supercharger, increased boost pressure compared with the Hellcat Redeye Widebody, and strengthened driveline parts. TransBrake 2.0 provides selectable launch torque profiles intended to suit track conditions; adaptive damping includes a drag-mode setting.

What did the Demon 170 cost, and how limited was it?
At launch, Dodge announced a U.S. MSRP of $96,666 before destination and fees and a production cap of up to 3,300 cars: 3,000 allocated to the United States and 300 to Canada, subject to production capacity. Ordering was scheduled to open March 27, 2023, and close May 15, 2023. These are historical launch terms; they do not establish the completed production total, current inventory, or present resale value. Dodge’s announcement provides the original price and allocation details.

What the Demon 170’s performance claims do—and do not—show
The Demon 170’s numbers make a case for a specialized factory drag car, not a universal performance ranking. The horsepower figure changes with fuel, the 0–60 and quarter-mile times are Dodge claims rather than independent comparative results, and NHRA’s report shows that a street-legal car may still need additional equipment for a sub-nine-second track pass. Those distinctions are essential to understanding what the headline figures mean in practice.
