Chevrolet’s published 2023 figures describe the Silverado lineup as a whole, not every Trail Boss configuration, so there is no single tow rating or engine specification that applies to every truck. For a specific vehicle, check its configuration, door-jamb label and owner’s manual.
What is the difference between Custom Trail Boss and LT Trail Boss?
Chevrolet listed both trims in its 2023 Silverado 1500 lineup. The manufacturer’s Trail Boss description highlights off-road hardware for the Custom and additional cabin technology for the LT; it does not establish every equipment difference between 2023 configurations.
Custom Trail Boss
Chevrolet describes the Custom Trail Boss with a 2-inch factory lift, Z71 suspension, Autotrac two-speed transfer case, Z71 skid plates, automatic locking rear differential and MT tires. These are the source-supported features to look for when comparing the trim.
LT Trail Boss
The LT Trail Boss distinction highlighted by Chevrolet is its 13.4-inch diagonal touchscreen and 12.3-inch diagonal reconfigurable driver information center. Chevrolet’s 2023 fact sheet says the 13.4-inch screen is standard on LT and above across the Silverado lineup, rather than a Trail Boss-exclusive feature. What engine comes in a 2023 Silverado Trail Boss?
There is no single engine answer for every 2023 Trail Boss in the available manufacturer information. Chevrolet’s fact sheet lists four powertrains and their performance and capability figures for the Silverado 1500 lineup, but the published material here does not map each engine to every Trail Boss trim, cab, bed, axle and package combination.

These are Chevrolet’s 2023 Silverado 1500 lineup-level figures, not confirmed ratings for every Trail Boss. NHT means the Max Trailering Package. The 13,300-pound figure is a lineup maximum under specified powertrain and package conditions; it does not mean a Trail Boss can tow that amount. How much can a 2023 Silverado Trail Boss tow?
The rating depends on the exact truck, and the lineup maximum is not a safe substitute for the vehicle-specific rating. Chevrolet cautions that passengers, cargo, options and accessories may reduce how much the truck can tow.
- Identify the exact configuration. Confirm the engine, 2WD or 4WD drivetrain, cab, bed, axle ratio and trailering package. The available 2023 figures do not resolve every Trail Boss combination.
- Read the door-jamb label and owner’s manual. Use the truck’s own capacity information and the manual’s trailering section rather than applying the lineup maximum to it.
- Account for the loaded truck and trailer. Passengers, cargo, options and accessories affect capacity. Check trailer and tongue weights against the applicable vehicle limits.
Chevrolet says the trailering package is standard on Custom and above; it includes a hitch, 7- and 4-pin connectors, and Hitch Guidance. An integrated trailer brake controller is available. Equipment can vary, so verify what is fitted to the particular truck. Chevrolet’s trailering information directs owners to vehicle-specific guidance.

What towing equipment and accessories should you check?
A factory trailering package does not establish that a particular ball mount or trailer setup is compatible. Match the hardware to the truck’s receiver, the trailer coupler, loaded tongue weight and vehicle limits.
- CURT ball mount listing: Chevrolet Accessories lists GM part 19366947 as a pre-loaded assembly with a 2-inch receiver, 4-inch drop and 2-5/16-inch ball. Its fitment table includes Silverado 1500 model years 2019–2026, including 2023. That fitment listing is not a guarantee that its dimensions or rating suit a specific truck and trailer. - Camera and trailer assistance: Chevrolet’s 2023 Trailering Guide describes camera and trailer-assistance technologies, but some camera views require an accessory camera and installation. What tires fit a 2023 Silverado Trail Boss?
Chevrolet’s Custom Trail Boss description identifies MT tires, but the available material does not establish a 2023 tire size or a universal replacement fitment. Read the tire-size placard on the truck and confirm the replacement matches the exact wheel and trim. Do not choose a tire from the Trail Boss name alone.

Which features are Silverado lineup-wide rather than Trail Boss-specific?
Chevrolet’s fact sheet lists 12 standard bed tie-downs, an available Multi-Flex tailgate with six functions, and Chevy Safety Assist as standard across the Silverado lineup. These are not Trail Boss-exclusive claims. The 13.4-inch infotainment screen is listed as standard on LT and above, which is why it is relevant to the LT Trail Boss distinction rather than a feature unique to Trail Boss.
