Short answer: The 2022 Honda Super Cub C125 ABS is a lightweight, single-seat, 124cc motorcycle with a clutchless four-speed transmission, front-wheel ABS, fuel injection, a smart key and classic step-through styling. It is an excellent fit for urban riding, neighborhood use and moderate-speed commuting when you want motorcycle controls without a hand-operated clutch. Its biggest limitations are just as important: the rear brake has no ABS, the motorcycle is rated for the rider only, the total load limit is 234 pounds, storage is minimal and Honda does not publish a U.S. horsepower, fuel-economy or top-speed figure.

The 2022 model is especially significant because Honda replaced the 2021 engine with a longer-stroke design, changing the bore and stroke from 52.4 x 57.9 mm to 50.0 x 63.1 mm and raising compression from 9.3:1 to approximately 10.0:1. The stated curb weight also fell from 240 to 238 pounds. The original U.S. MSRP was $3,799, but the motorcycle is now a used-market model. Before buying any 2022 example, verify the VIN and confirm that emissions campaign KT4, involving the fuel-cap gasket on 2019-2024 C125 models, has been completed.

Quick verdict

The 2022 Honda Super Cub C125 ABS is best understood as a small motorcycle with scooter-like accessibility, not as a conventional automatic scooter. You step through the frame, select four gears with your left foot and never operate a hand clutch because the transmission uses an automatic centrifugal clutch. That combination makes it approachable for a new rider who wants to learn motorcycle gear selection gradually, while retaining the narrowness, light weight and easy parking that make small scooters attractive.

It is a strong choice if your riding is mostly on city streets, neighborhood roads, secondary routes and short commutes. It is a poor match for sustained freeway travel, regular two-up riding, substantial luggage, high-speed traffic or anyone who specifically wants twist-and-go operation, weather protection and a lockable cargo compartment.

Used-bike warning: American Honda issued an emissions-related action for all 2019-2024 Super Cub C125 motorcycles. The fuel-cap gasket may not meet federal evaporative-emissions permeation limits. The campaign is not described as a crash-safety defect, but a buyer should run the VIN through NHTSA’s recall lookup and ask a Honda Powersports dealer to verify campaign KT4 before money changes hands.

2022 Honda Super Cub C125 ABS at a glance

Item 2022 U.S. specification
Model name Honda Super Cub C125 ABS
U.S. owner-documentation designation C125A
Trim Single U.S. trim; ABS is standard equipment
U.S. launch color Matte Gray Metallic
Original U.S. MSRP $3,799

Passenger capacity Rider only
Fuel capacity 0.98 U.S. gallons in the owner’s manual; approximately 1.0 gallon in the brochure
Front and rear tires 70/90-17 front; 80/90-17 rear

Honda’s 2022 U.S. brochure and the 2022 C125A owner’s manual are the key references for these figures. The product was a real, standalone U.S. model year, not merely a color update or a parts designation.

What exactly is the U.S.-spec 2022 Super Cub C125?

Model names and codes

You may see the motorcycle listed under several nearly identical names:

  • Honda Super Cub C125 ABS is the consumer-facing U.S. name.
  • 2022 Super Cub C125 is the shortened model-year description used by many listings.
  • C125A is the model designation used in Honda’s U.S. owner’s documentation.
  • C125AN appears as a model-code variation in some parts databases. It should not be treated as evidence of a different U.S. engine, performance trim or separate ABS version.

In the United States, ABS was standard on the Super Cub. The word ABS does not identify a more powerful engine or an optional performance package; it describes the standard front-wheel anti-lock braking system.

It is not a twist-and-go scooter

The C125 has four forward gears, a foot-operated shift lever and a four-up shift pattern. There is no hand-operated clutch lever, but the rider still chooses the gear. Neutral is below first gear, and the transmission shifts upward through first, second, third and fourth.

Honda gives these approximate upshift points in the owner’s manual:

  • First to second: 12 mph
  • Second to third: 19 mph
  • Third to fourth: 25 mph

The approximate downshift points are:

  • Fourth to third: 16 mph
  • Third to second: 12 mph

These are reference points rather than rigid rules. Traffic, hills, wind and load affect the appropriate gear. The important distinction is that the bike is semi-automatic and clutchless, not fully automatic.

What changed from the 2021 U.S. model?

The central 2022 update was the engine. Honda fitted a longer-stroke single-cylinder design and made several associated specification changes. The comparison below uses Honda’s 2021 U.S. brochure and the 2022 U.S. materials, with the launch update also described in Honda’s 2022 announcement reproduced by Roadracing World.

The longer stroke means the 2022 engine is not simply the 2021 motor with different bodywork. It is also not valid to assume a specific horsepower, torque or top-speed gain from the bore-and-stroke change alone. Honda’s U.S. publications do not provide definitive output numbers for this model, so published figures from European or Asian C125 versions should not be silently applied to the U.S. motorcycle.

Verified 2022 U.S. specifications

Engine and drivetrain

Specification 2022 U.S. figure
Displacement 124cc
Configuration Air-cooled, single-cylinder, four-stroke
Bore x stroke 50.0 x 63.1 mm
Compression ratio 10.0:1 in the owner’s manual; 10.1:1 in the brochure
Induction PGM-FI with automatic enrichment
Valve train SOHC, two valves
Ignition Fully transistorized
Transmission Four-speed semi-automatic
Clutch Automatic centrifugal
Final drive #420 chain, 14-tooth front sprocket and 35-tooth rear sprocket

There is no factory U.S. horsepower, torque, EPA fuel-economy or guaranteed top-speed figure to use as a definitive buying specification. That matters because owner-reported top speeds and fuel economy vary with rider weight, wind, elevation, temperature, break-in condition, tire pressure, gearing and traffic. Treating one internet number as a promise for every C125 is misleading.

Chassis, suspension and brakes

Specification 2022 U.S. figure
Front suspension 26 mm telescopic fork with 3.5 inches of travel
Rear suspension Twin shocks with 3.6 inches of travel
Front brake 220 mm hydraulic disc with ABS
Rear brake Mechanical drum without ABS
Front tire 70/90-17
Rear tire 80/90-17
Seat height 30.7 inches
Wheelbase 49.0 inches in the owner’s manual; 48.9 inches in the brochure
Ground clearance 4.9 inches
Curb weight 238 pounds, ready to ride
Maximum load capacity 234 pounds, including rider, riding gear, luggage and accessories
Passenger capacity Rider only
Fuel capacity 0.98 U.S. gallons in the manual; approximately 1.0 gallon in the brochure
Minimum turning radius 6.56 feet

The curb weight is a ready-to-ride figure rather than a dry chassis weight; Honda’s specification convention includes operating fluids and a full fuel tank. The 234-pound load figure is not cargo capacity. A 180-pound rider, helmet, riding gear, rack, lock and luggage all count toward the same limit.

Equipment and storage

Standard equipment includes:

  • Step-through bodywork
  • Electric starting
  • Fuel injection
  • Front-wheel ABS
  • LED headlight, brake light, taillight, turn signals, position light and license-plate light
  • Honda SMART Key

  • Answer-back system
  • Center stand
  • Analog speedometer with a digital odometer, tripmeters, gear-position indicator, fuel gauge and clock
  • Under-seat helmet holders
  • Document bag and tool kit behind the right-side cover

The C125 does not have the large under-seat trunk associated with a scooter. Its helmet holders and document/tool storage are useful, but they do not replace a top case, rear rack or scooter-style cargo compartment. Adding accessories also requires attention to Honda’s 234-pound total load limit.

Resolving Honda’s small specification discrepancies

Honda’s 2022 brochure lists a 10.1:1 compression ratio, 26-degree rake, 48.9-inch wheelbase and 1.0-gallon fuel capacity. The U.S. owner’s manual lists 10.0:1, 26.5 degrees, 49.0 inches and 0.98 U.S. gallons. These are small documentation differences, not evidence of two U.S. versions. Use the owner’s manual for service, operating and safety information, and identify brochure values as launch-product specifications rather than combining numbers from both documents without attribution.

How the C125 rides in practical use

Urban streets and commuting

This is where the C125’s design makes the most sense. The 30.7-inch seat, 238-pound ready-to-ride weight, narrow chassis, step-through frame, small turning radius and center stand make low-speed maneuvering and parking relatively approachable. Fuel injection and electric starting reduce the routine involvement associated with older carbureted Super Cubs, while the four-speed transmission lets the rider select a gear for a hill or traffic condition instead of relying on a continuously variable transmission.

The trade-off is carrying capacity. The rider-only rating, 234-pound total-load ceiling and lack of built-in cargo storage can make the C125 less practical than a scooter for groceries, work equipment or daily luggage. A top case or rack can help, but accessories consume part of the allowable load and should be installed without interfering with lighting, steering, the chain or the ABS system.

Beginner riding

The C125 can be a good first motorcycle, but that conclusion is conditional rather than a manufacturer certification. It offers several qualities that reduce the initial workload:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Low seat height for a motorcycle
  • Light ready-to-ride weight
  • Step-through access
  • No hand clutch to coordinate
  • Fuel injection and electric starting
  • Predictable four-speed gearing
  • Front ABS
  • Narrow dimensions and easy low-speed maneuverability

A new rider still has to learn throttle control, braking, balance, gear selection, starting from a stop and downshifting. The absence of a clutch lever does not make the motorcycle an automatic. The rear brake also has no ABS, and the rider-only load rating is easy to overlook. The C125 should be learned in a properly controlled area and ridden under the licensing and training rules that apply in the rider’s state.

It is a motorcycle, not automatically a moped simply because it has 124cc and a step-through frame. Motorcycle endorsement, registration and equipment requirements vary by state.

Freeways and faster roads

Do not buy the C125 on the assumption that every 125cc motorcycle is equally suitable for freeway use. Honda’s owner’s manual warns that motorcycles under 150cc may face highway operating restrictions depending on state law. Legal permission and practical suitability are separate questions.

The C125 is most comfortable when the surrounding traffic is not consistently much faster than the motorcycle. Sustained high-speed freeway travel, long hills, strong headwinds and heavy riders can leave little performance reserve. Honda does not publish a universal U.S. top-speed number, so a seller’s claimed speed should not be treated as a specification. Check the actual route, speed limits, traffic flow and state restrictions before deciding that it can replace a larger commuter motorcycle.

How the front-only ABS works

The 2022 C125 has single-channel, front-wheel ABS. The 220 mm front disc is monitored by the anti-lock system, while the rear wheel uses a mechanical drum brake with no ABS. This is a meaningful safety feature, but the phrase ABS-equipped should never be interpreted as two-wheel ABS.

Honda’s manual gives several limitations:

  • The rear wheel has no ABS.
  • ABS does not operate below approximately 6 mph.
  • ABS does not guarantee a shorter stopping distance.
  • Under some conditions, ABS can produce a longer stopping distance than a motorcycle without ABS.
  • The specified tire sizes and sprockets should be retained for correct ABS operation.
  • If the ABS indicator remains illuminated while riding, the brakes still operate conventionally, but anti-lock function is unavailable.

Normally, the ABS light illuminates when the ignition is switched on and goes out after the motorcycle reaches approximately 6 mph. If the rear wheel has been spun while lifted off the ground, the indicator may flash. Honda’s documented recovery procedure is to cycle the ignition and ride above approximately 19 mph; if the warning remains, have the system inspected.

Maintenance schedule and service data

What the schedule actually requires

The C125 is simple compared with a larger motorcycle, but it is not maintenance-free. It has a drive chain, valve-clearance checks, brake-fluid service, tire-pressure requirements, a spark plug, a battery and emissions equipment. Honda’s owner’s manual is the authority for the complete schedule; the Honda factory service manual covering the 2022 C125A and later 2023-2024 C125 models is the more detailed workshop reference.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Timing What to know
First 300 miles / 500 km Break-in period. Follow the owner’s manual rather than treating the motorcycle as fully run-in from its first mile.
Every 300 miles / 500 km Service the drive chain by inspecting, cleaning, lubricating and adjusting it as necessary.
600 miles / 1,000 km First scheduled maintenance record.
4,000 through 24,000 miles The recurring schedule uses 4,000-mile columns through 8,000, 12,000, 16,000, 20,000 and 24,000 miles. Perform the inspection, cleaning, lubrication, adjustment, replacement and technical-service items marked at each column.
Engine oil Change at the mileage shown in the schedule and at least annually; do not reduce the maintenance plan to an oil-change-only interval.
Brake fluid Replace every 2 years.
Unusually wet or dusty use Service the air cleaner more frequently.
Rain, full-throttle use, washing or an overturn Service the crankcase breather more frequently as specified by Honda.

The interval table uses different maintenance categories, so not every item is performed at every mileage column. Owners should read the legend and the exact row in the manual instead of assuming that 4,000 miles means only an oil change. Time matters as well as mileage, especially for brake fluid, chain corrosion, tires, battery condition and a motorcycle that is ridden infrequently.

Key service specifications

Item Honda specification
Engine oil after draining 0.80 L / 0.85 U.S. qt
After draining and oil-filter service 0.85 L / 0.90 U.S. qt
After engine disassembly 1.00 L / 1.06 U.S. qt
Oil type SAE 10W-30, JASO T 903 MA, API SJ or higher
Spark plug NGK CPR7EA-9S
Spark-plug gap 0.8-0.9 mm / 0.031-0.035 inch
Idle speed 1,400 +/- 100 rpm
Front tire pressure 29 psi
Rear tire pressure 33 psi
Drive-chain slack 25-35 mm / 1-1 3/8 inches
Battery YTZ5S, 12 V, 3.5 Ah
Brake fluid Honda DOT 3 or DOT 4

Check tire pressures cold and use the owner’s manual for the correct measurement and adjustment procedures. Do not guess at chain slack, rear-drum adjustment or brake-fluid service from a generic Super Cub guide, because model-year and market details can differ.

Starting procedure and owner troubleshooting

Normal starting sequence

Honda’s normal procedure is:

  1. Keep the Honda SMART Key with you and make sure it is active.
  2. Set the engine-stop switch to Run.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
  4. Shift into Neutral and confirm the neutral indicator.
  5. Keep the throttle completely closed.
  6. Press the starter button.

If the engine does not start, Honda’s manual allows the rider to open the throttle slightly, approximately 3 mm. If necessary, open the throttle fully and operate the starter for up to 5 seconds, then repeat the normal procedure. Wait about 10 seconds before another attempt so the battery voltage can recover. Avoid prolonged fast-idling and repeated extended cranking, particularly on a used bike with an already weak battery.

SMART Key issues that can look like mechanical failures

The smart key is convenient, but it introduces another set of failure points that should be checked before buying:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • A red LED on the fob indicates that the smart-key system is inactive. Activate the fob before assuming the motorcycle cannot recognize it.
  • A flashing smart-key indicator can result from radio interference or lost communication between the fob and motorcycle.
  • The motorcycle can continue operating after communication with the fob is lost, but the ignition may not unlock again after it is locked.
  • The motorcycle may emit warning sounds if the fob is absent when the ignition is switched off.
  • The seat-open button requires the active fob to be within range and sufficient vehicle-battery voltage.
  • The owner’s manual provides an emergency method for unlocking the ignition with the smart-key identification number.

Ask a seller to demonstrate the ignition, seat release, alarm and answer-back functions with the supplied fobs. Ideally, obtain both smart keys and the identification tag or emergency information. A motorcycle that runs normally but has no usable key recovery information is a greater used-buying risk than the odometer alone suggests.

Other documented checks

  • ABS warning: Confirm the normal light cycle. If it remains on while riding, assume front ABS is unavailable until diagnosed.
  • Fuel-gauge error: Do not plan a trip around an apparently incorrect gauge. Record the symptom and have the electrical or fuel-level system diagnosed rather than guessing at remaining range.
  • Drive chain: Measure slack against Honda’s 25-35 mm specification, inspect for rust or tight spots and check both sprockets. A nonstandard sprocket can also affect the ABS system.
  • Rear brake: Inspect the drum’s wear indication and pedal operation; use the manual for the exact adjustment procedure.
  • Tire puncture: Do not continue riding on a damaged tire. Follow Honda’s tire-repair and transport instructions, particularly where the wheel, brake system or ABS components are involved.

These are documented operating and maintenance branches, not a claim that every C125 develops these faults. Anecdotal forum complaints should not be presented as confirmed defect patterns without supporting service data.

Used 2022 Super Cub C125 inspection checklist

A clean 2022 C125 can be an appealing used motorcycle, but its small size and collectible styling can cause sellers to price it emotionally. Inspect the actual machine and its documentation.

1. Confirm identity and paperwork

  • Match the VIN on the frame to the title, registration and sale documents.
  • Check that the odometer reading is consistent with service records.
  • Look for the owner’s manual, tool kit, document bag and both smart keys.
  • Ask for the smart-key identification tag or emergency identification information.
  • Request maintenance receipts, not just a verbal statement that the bike was serviced.
  • Ask specifically for proof of campaign KT4 completion.

2. Insist on a cold start

  • Touch the engine before starting so a pre-warmed engine cannot conceal hard starting or smoke.
  • Check that the engine starts using the normal smart-key, neutral and closed-throttle procedure.
  • Listen for an unstable idle, unusual mechanical noise or warning lights.
  • Confirm the gear-position indicator, fuel gauge, clock, odometer and tripmeters operate.

3. Test the ABS and brakes

  • At ignition-on, confirm the ABS light illuminates.
  • During a safe test ride, confirm it goes out after the motorcycle exceeds approximately 6 mph.
  • Check front brake lever feel, disc condition and fluid level.
  • Check rear-brake pedal operation, drum wear indication and adjustment.
  • Do not accept an ABS light that remains on merely because the seller says the brakes still work.

4. Inspect the running gear

  • Check the chain for correct slack, corrosion, stiff links and hooked sprocket teeth.
  • Inspect the fork seals for oil leakage and move the steering through its range for notchiness.
  • Look at tire age, cracking, tread and correct 70/90-17 front and 80/90-17 rear sizes.
  • Check the wheels for damage and the suspension for bent or leaking components.
  • Operate the center stand and look for damage underneath the engine and frame.

5. Look for crash, corrosion and modification clues

  • Inspect the step-through bodywork, footpegs, levers, mirrors, handlebar and exhaust for impact marks.
  • Look for corrosion or water intrusion around electrical connectors, fasteners, the battery and smart-key components.
  • Check aftermarket racks, exhausts, tires, sprockets and electrical accessories for installation quality.
  • Reject modifications that compromise the ABS system, emissions equipment, lighting or the 234-pound load rating.
  • Ask whether original parts are included, particularly if the motorcycle has been customized.

Recall and campaign status

KT4 emissions campaign: verify the individual VIN

Honda’s 2025 dealer notice placed a stop-sale on all 2019-2024 C125 Super Cubs until the emissions repair was performed. The customer-letter explanation identifies a fuel-cap gasket whose material may exceed federal evaporative-emissions limits. The repair was to be performed free of charge through an authorized Honda Powersports dealer when parts were available. See the NHTSA-hosted Honda dealer notice and the campaign KT4 customer-letter copy.

Do not infer completion from the model year, a dealer sticker or a seller’s assurance that all recalls are done. Run the VIN through NHTSA’s recall search and ask a Honda dealer to check campaign KT4 in Honda’s system. The public documents do not establish that every 2022 example had been repaired by August 9, 2026. Get the campaign status in writing or retain the dealer repair order.

Older reflector recall

A separate 2021 NHTSA reflector recall covered certain 2020 and 2021 Honda motorcycles, including C125 models. Its cited population does not identify 2022 C125 motorcycles. It should not be automatically applied to every 2022 bike, although a VIN search remains the correct way to check a particular motorcycle. The relevant NHTSA recall report is more reliable than a generic internet list.

Current U.S. availability and international versions

As of August 9, 2026, the 2022 C125 is a used-market motorcycle in the United States. A February 2026 report quoting American Honda says the U.S. Super Cub line ended after model year 2024. That does not mean the C125 disappeared globally: Honda continues to sell C125 variants in other markets, including a European 2026 announcement.

Do not use an international 2025 or 2026 C125 listing as a substitute for a U.S. 2022 specification sheet. Market-specific bikes can differ in emissions equipment, engine calibration, lighting, braking, passenger provisions, fuel-system details and registration or homologation status. An imported motorcycle may also create parts, title, emissions and insurance complications even if its bodywork looks nearly identical.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Super Cub name has significant historical weight. Honda said in a 2018 global announcement that the Super Cub family had exceeded 100 million units worldwide. That is a Honda-attributed historical production claim, not proof that a particular 2022 C125 is fast, economical or trouble-free.

What is a 2022 C125 worth?

The original U.S. MSRP was $3,799. That is a historical new-bike price, not a current used-bike guarantee.

At the research cutoff, the J.D. Power valuation page listed a $3,799 suggested list price, $2,195 low retail and $2,885 average retail. These are guide values, not verified transaction prices. A real asking price can move substantially with mileage, location, title status, condition, accessories, dealer fees, local demand, supply and campaign completion.

Evaluate the price in this order:

  1. Subtract the cost and inconvenience of any unresolved campaign or needed service.
  2. Value a clean title, cold-start behavior, working smart keys and complete records more highly than cosmetic accessories.
  3. Check whether aftermarket equipment consumes load capacity or creates safety and ABS concerns.
  4. Compare several local listings rather than using the original MSRP as a target.
  5. Do not pay a premium for an unrepaired KT4 motorcycle; have the repair completed first or negotiate as though the bike cannot be used until the dealer handles it.

Who should buy the 2022 Super Cub C125?

Strong reasons to choose it

  • You want an approachable motorcycle rather than a scooter.
  • You like classic styling with modern fuel injection, LED lighting and electronic security features.
  • You ride alone and carry only a modest amount of gear.
  • Your normal routes are urban streets, neighborhood roads or moderate-speed secondary roads.
  • You want foot-shifted motorcycle control without a hand clutch.
  • You value a light, narrow machine, front ABS and a center stand.
  • You want a distinctive Honda that is no longer sold new in the United States.

Reasons to choose something else

  • You need to carry a passenger.
  • Your rider, gear and luggage combination approaches or exceeds 234 pounds.
  • You regularly use freeways or roads where traffic moves much faster.
  • You want two-wheel ABS.
  • You want a fully automatic twist-and-go transmission.
  • You need built-in weather protection or a large cargo compartment.
  • You expect strong acceleration at highway speeds.
  • You want universally available model-specific body panels or accessories.

Alternatives to consider

The right alternative depends more on the use case than on styling. The table compares the decision trade-offs without pretending that every model has identical equipment across every year and market.

Alternative Transmission and riding feel Where it can be a better fit What the buyer must verify
Honda Trail125 Honda miniMOTO-style foot-shifted, clutchless operation in applicable U.S. versions More utility-oriented riding, light adventure use, rougher roads and cargo or rack priorities Exact model-year passenger rating, load limit, ABS configuration, rack equipment, seat height, weight, fuel capacity, highway practicality, parts and VIN campaign status
Honda Grom Conventional small motorcycle layout with a hand-operated clutch and manual gearbox A sportier riding position, conventional motorcycle training and a large small-bike enthusiast ecosystem Year-specific ABS, passenger provisions, storage or rack options, weight, seat height, fuel capacity, performance expectations, price and recalls
Honda Dax125 Compact small-displacement Honda character; confirm the exact market and year for controls and equipment Short recreational rides, compact dimensions and a different nostalgic chassis priority Transmission, passenger rating, ABS channels, storage, rack options, seat height, weight, fuel capacity, road-speed suitability, parts and recalls
125-150cc scooter Twist-and-go CVT operation Built-in storage, weather protection, easier stop-and-go operation and often more practical errands Actual under-seat capacity, passenger rating, two-wheel versus front-only ABS, load limit, seat height, weight, fuel capacity, freeway capability, service network and price
Older Super Cub or imported C125 Can be similar in concept, but equipment and controls vary by year and market Lower purchase price, historical interest or access to a version not sold in the U.S. Title and registration legality, emissions compliance, lighting, braking, passenger certification, parts availability, fuel system, load rating, condition and recall status

For any comparison, check these ten dimensions in the exact year and market: transmission type, passenger rating, ABS configuration, storage and rack provisions, seat height, curb weight, fuel capacity, highway practicality, parts availability, and used price plus recall status. A C125 that looks like a bargain can be the wrong purchase if the buyer actually needs a passenger, luggage, two-wheel ABS or scooter storage.

Official references for owners

The 2022 Honda C125A owner’s manual should be the first reference for starting, smart-key operation, ABS warnings, tire pressure, chain adjustment, maintenance and safety limits. The factory service manual is intended for deeper workshop procedures. Honda’s C125A 2022 documentation index is another useful official model reference.

Does the 2022 Honda Super Cub have rear ABS?

No. ABS operates on the front wheel only. The rear brake is a mechanical drum without ABS.

Can the 2022 Super Cub C125 carry a passenger?

The U.S. owner’s manual specifies rider only. It should not be presented as a two-up motorcycle.

How much weight can the 2022 C125 carry?

The maximum load is 234 pounds total, including the rider, riding gear, luggage and accessories. It is not 234 pounds of cargo in addition to the rider.

What oil does the 2022 Super Cub use?

Honda specifies SAE 10W-30 meeting JASO T 903 MA and API SJ or higher. Capacity is 0.80 liters after draining, 0.85 liters after draining and oil-filter service, or 1.00 liter after engine disassembly.

What is the 2022 C125 fuel capacity?

The owner’s manual lists 0.98 U.S. gallons. The launch brochure rounds it to approximately 1.0 gallon.

Is the 2022 Super Cub C125 highway legal?

Legality depends on state law. Honda’s manual notes that motorcycles under 150cc may face highway operating restrictions. Even where legal, sustained freeway travel may be a poor practical fit because Honda does not publish a guaranteed U.S. top speed.

What changed on the 2022 model?

Honda introduced a longer-stroke engine: bore and stroke changed from 52.4 x 57.9 mm in 2021 to 50.0 x 63.1 mm in 2022. Compression increased from 9.3:1 to approximately 10.0:1, stated curb weight fell from 240 to 238 pounds and the U.S. color changed from Pearl Nebula Red to Matte Gray Metallic.

Does the 2022 C125 have scooter-style storage?

No. It has helmet holders, a document bag and a tool kit behind the right-side cover, but no large conventional under-seat cargo trunk.

How do I check whether a used 2022 C125 has the emissions repair?

Run the motorcycle’s VIN through NHTSA’s recall search and ask an authorized Honda Powersports dealer to verify campaign KT4. Request the completed repair order rather than relying only on the seller’s statement.

Is the 2022 Super Cub C125 still sold new in the United States?

No. A 2026 report quoting American Honda says the U.S. Super Cub line ended after model year 2024, so a 2022 example is now used. C125 variants continue in some international markets, but their specifications may not match the U.S. motorcycle.

The Bottom Line

The 2022 Honda Super Cub C125 ABS is worth considering as a distinctive, light and approachable solo motorcycle for urban and moderate-speed riding. Its clutchless four-speed transmission is easier to approach than a conventional hand-clutch motorcycle, but it still requires gear selection; its ABS is front-only; and its rider-only, 234-pound total-load rating rules out many practical commuter and passenger uses.

For a used example, condition and documentation matter more than the Super Cub name. Confirm a cold start, working smart keys, correct ABS-light behavior, healthy tires and chain, unmodified safety equipment, a clean VIN/title and completed KT4 emissions campaign. If you need automatic operation, cargo storage, two-up capacity or regular freeway performance, a scooter, Trail125 or larger motorcycle may be a better tool.
