1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe 2020 Chevrolet Impala is a roomy, front-wheel-drive five-seat sedan with a 305-hp V6, a comfortable ride and a large trunk. It is best considered as a used car: secondary review and search-result sources identify 2020 as the final model year and describe the Impala as discontinued, so buyers should look for existing inventory rather than expect to order a new one. Its main trade-offs are ponderous handling, steering that Edmunds calls overly sensitive, and mixed safety results, especially the Poor headlight ratings.
Is the Chevrolet Impala a good car?
For a used-car shopper who values passenger space, trunk capacity and relaxed highway comfort, the 2020 Impala can make sense. Edmunds describes the 2014–2020 generation as delivering smooth acceleration and a plush ride that is not excessively soft or floaty. The same review says handling feels ponderous, steering is overly sensitive, and the car can wander in its lane on the highway. Thick front roof pillars can also obstruct the view around curves. Those are Edmunds’ review impressions, not claims from a new road test.
The Impala is less compelling if sharp handling or a modern suite of standard driver-assistance features is a priority. Equipment varies by trim, package and individual car, so check the actual vehicle rather than assuming a feature is included.

LT vs. Premier: what changes?
Edmunds says the Premier adds leather, upgraded headlights and advanced safety features compared with LT, and recommends considering the Premier Convenience package. Package contents and individual options can vary, so confirm the equipment on the specific used Impala, including the headlights and safety systems. A trim name alone is not a substitute for checking the vehicle’s window sticker, equipment list or controls.

2020 Chevy Impala prices and used-car availability
Cars.com displayed an original starting MSRP of $31,620, a $16,446 used LT listing, and average trim prices of $15,405 for LT and $18,440 for Premier when its page was accessed in 2026. These are Cars.com page figures, not an independent valuation or a guaranteed current asking price; used prices and inventory change with location, mileage, condition, history and equipment.
Compare local listings for similar mileage, trim and condition, then account for maintenance needs and vehicle history. A lower asking price may not be the better buy if the car has unresolved service needs or lacks equipment you want.

Is the 2020 Chevrolet Impala reliable?
The available information here does not establish a reliability rating or a dependable failure-rate estimate for the 2020 Impala. Treat reliability as a question about the individual used car: review its service records, check for warning lights and signs of poor repairs, and arrange an independent inspection before purchase. Recall status was not verified in the cited material; check the vehicle’s VIN with the relevant official recall lookup before buying.
2020 Impala safety ratings and equipment
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) reports a mix of results. The driver-side small-overlap front test is Acceptable, with that rating applying to 2015–2020 models. The original moderate-overlap front and original side tests are Good, with those ratings applying to 2014–2020 models; roof strength is also Good for 2014–2020. Head restraints and seats are rated Good.

IIHS rates the listed LT halogen-projector and Premier HID-projector headlight configurations Poor. Optional vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention is rated Superior, while pedestrian front crash prevention is unavailable. Optional blind-spot detection and lane-departure warning are listed. These findings do not mean every 2020 Impala has the optional systems: confirm the exact equipment and headlight type on the car you are considering.

What are some similar vehicles and competitors of the 2020 Chevrolet Impala?
Cars.com lists the Buick LaCrosse, Chevrolet Malibu, Nissan Maxima and Chevrolet Impala Limited among comparison choices. Edmunds also compares the Impala with the Kia Cadenza and Toyota Avalon, and judges those competitors nicer overall. They are alternatives to cross-shop, not interchangeable cars: compare the specific year, equipment, condition and price of each example.
For a useful comparison, look beyond badge and trim. Focus on the factors that shape ownership of this kind of sedan:
- Cabin and trunk room: check whether the rear seat and cargo space suit your passengers and everyday loads.
- Ride and handling: take a test drive on the roads you use and assess comfort, steering feel and lane stability.
- Power and fuel use: compare each car’s engine and its published fuel-economy figures.
- Safety equipment: verify the individual car’s active-safety features and headlight configuration.
- Condition and price: weigh mileage, history and inspection findings against the asking price.
