The redesigned 2019 Acura RDX makes a strong case as a compact luxury SUV: its turbocharged engine, 10-speed automatic and available SH-AWD give it a compelling foundation, while its trim packages offer meaningfully different equipment. The main point to try before buying is the True Touchpad Interface. Its high-mounted screen and console touchpad work differently from a conventional touchscreen, so whether the layout suits you is personal.
What changed with the redesigned 2019 RDX?
The 2019 model introduced a new generation of RDX, pairing a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Acura rated the engine at 272 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. Buyers could choose front-wheel drive (FWD) or Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD).
That combination makes the RDX’s appeal easy to understand: a potent, modern powertrain, a choice of drivetrains and packages that add distinct equipment. The touchpad is the feature most likely to divide shoppers, and it deserves a hands-on trial rather than a blanket judgment.
How do FWD and SH-AWD differ?
FWD is the less expensive launch configuration and has slightly better EPA estimates than SH-AWD versions. SH-AWD is the option to consider if you specifically want all-wheel drive; its value depends on your driving needs, not simply the badge. Acura’s 2019 U.S. EPA estimates are below. Actual mileage varies with use and conditions, as Acura notes.

What does the True Touchpad Interface do?
Instead of putting a touchscreen within easy reach, the RDX places a 10.2-inch display high on the dashboard and a touchpad on the center console. You interact with the screen’s functions using the pad, with Acura also describing natural-language voice recognition. Acura called it “an advanced new human-machine interface (HMI)” and its first application of the system in the 2019 RDX.

The layout’s trade-off is straightforward: the display is mounted high, while the control surface is lower and separate. That differs from directly tapping the screen or using a familiar rotary controller. Drivers accustomed to those controls may find the touchpad unfamiliar; others may adapt to it. Car and Driver’s contemporary review offers additional independent context, but individual comfort with the system is best judged in the actual vehicle. Car and Driver’s 2019 Acura RDX review
During a test drive, try common tasks you expect to use—such as changing audio selections or navigating menus—while the vehicle is parked, then see whether the control method feels intuitive. Check the specific vehicle’s equipment and software operation rather than assuming every used example is configured identically.

Which package is worth seeking out?
Choose by the equipment you want, not by trim name alone. Acura’s packages add different kinds of value; confirm the exact combination on the individual vehicle, since equipment can vary with drivetrain and configuration.
| Package | What it emphasizes | Examples of added equipment |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Convenience, information and driver awareness | Navigation, blind-spot information and rear cross-traffic monitor |
| A-Spec | Sportier appearance and cabin character | Sport-oriented interior touches and audio upgrades |
| Advance | Additional premium and driver-assistance features | Adaptive dampers, head-up display and surround-view camera |
Acura’s RDX specifications and package information can help identify intended equipment, but a used-car listing or badge is not a substitute for confirming the features on that vehicle.

What did the 2019 RDX cost when new?
Acura’s January 2019 U.S. pricing release listed MSRP from $37,400 before destination for a base FWD model to $47,500 before destination for an SH-AWD Advance. With the listed $995 destination charge, those launch-price endpoints were $38,395 and $48,495. These are historical new-car prices, not present-day used-car valuations. How should shoppers assess safety claims?
Acura’s 2019 materials report a five-star overall NHTSA rating and IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ recognition for the RDX. Those claims are attributed to Acura’s press material; official agency records and the precise test details have not been independently reviewed here. Shoppers who need to confirm a rating should check the relevant NHTSA and IIHS records for the specific model year and vehicle details.
What to check on a used 2019 RDX
- Confirm the configuration. Identify FWD or SH-AWD and verify the package equipment on the vehicle, not just in the advertisement.
- Try the interface. Use the touchpad and display in person to decide whether the control layout works for you.
- Review condition and service history. Mileage, maintenance records and the vehicle’s current condition matter more to a used purchase than its original sticker price.
- Compare local asking prices. Use listings for similar configurations as a market reference; no current valuation is implied by 2019 launch pricing.
- Check accessories for fit. Acura’s model-specific accessory list includes all-season mats, a folding cargo tray, cargo-area protector, roof rails, crossbars and a trailer hitch. If shopping for “2019 Acura RDX all-season floor mats” or other add-ons, confirm exact fitment for the vehicle. Acura’s 2019 RDX accessories
Is the 2019 Acura RDX a good used compact luxury SUV?
It is a persuasive choice for shoppers who want a 272-hp turbocharged engine, a 10-speed automatic and a choice between FWD and SH-AWD, plus package options that cover technology, sportier styling or premium equipment. The True Touchpad Interface is the most important personal-fit question: it may suit you, or you may prefer a more familiar control scheme. Try it before committing, and assess the specific vehicle on its condition, history and local price.
