The 2019–2022 Yamaha YZF-R125 is a small-capacity R-Series sports motorcycle built around a 125cc engine and features including Yamaha’s Variable Valve Actuation (VVA). Yamaha’s published material explains the engine and chassis design, but does not provide independently verified acceleration or top-speed figures. The price figure available here is a dated Slovak promotion, not a current used-bike valuation.
What changed with the 2019-generation R125?
Yamaha’s 2019 factsheet describes a redesigned 125cc engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA). Yamaha says VVA changes valve operation to support torque at low engine speeds and power at high engine speeds. The same factsheet lists a larger throttle body, larger intake and exhaust valves, a compact combustion chamber and a new exhaust system. These are the manufacturer’s descriptions of the design, not independent performance-test results. Yamaha’s 2019 YZF-R125 factsheet
For the chassis, Yamaha highlights revised Deltabox-frame geometry, 41mm upside-down forks and a shorter aluminium swingarm. It also specifies an Assist & Slipper (A&S) clutch, which Yamaha says provides a lighter lever feel and helps control the rear wheel during deceleration. Styling features include twin-eye LED headlights, a 12-LED taillight and R-Series design cues. Yamaha’s 2019 YZF-R125 factsheet
Performance: what the published figures do—and do not—establish
Yamaha’s materials explain the intended functions of VVA and the chassis equipment, but the available sources do not establish verified acceleration times or a measured top speed for this model range. A review headline or search result is not a substitute for a published test result, so figures for 0–60 mph, 0–100 km/h or maximum speed should not be treated as confirmed here.

For a used-bike comparison, treat Yamaha’s technology descriptions as context for the design rather than proof of a particular real-world performance result. Results can also depend on market specification and test conditions; no comparable test data across 2019–2022 is established in the available material.

Photos and identifying the year
Yamaha’s 2019 factsheet includes images of the bodywork, cockpit, wheels, suspension and lighting. Its 2021 factsheet shows a blue R125 in action alongside feature imagery. Yamaha’s R-Series overview also includes a 2021 R125 image and places the bike in the wider family context; that styling context does not establish performance equivalence with larger R-Series models. 2019 factsheet, 2021 factsheet, Yamaha R-Series overview
Colors and graphics can vary by year and national market. When using photos to identify a used example, check the year and market label and compare the images with the bike’s documents and equipment rather than relying on paint alone.

What to compare when viewing a used R125
- Year and market specification: Check the registration documents and the relevant national brochure; the available factsheets do not establish every market’s full specification for every year from 2019 through 2022.
- Mileage and servicing: Review the service documentation and ask what maintenance has been completed.
- Crash or repair history: Inspect the motorcycle and ask for records of damage or repairs.
- Condition and consumables: Assess general condition and the remaining life of wear items.
- Modifications: Note whether equipment is original or modified and confirm that any changes are suitable for the bike and lawful in your location.
- Price evidence: Compare the asking price with contemporaneous local examples of similar year, mileage and condition; do not use the 2019 Slovak offer as a current benchmark.
These are practical checks for comparing individual used bikes, not evidence of a model-specific failure pattern. For replacement parts or accessories, confirm compatibility using the bike’s model year and VIN.
