The 2016 Dodge Viper Venom 800 was a Hennessey supercharged upgrade to the factory Viper—not a Dodge trim level. Period reports describe a 5-psi supercharger setup and quote 808 horsepower, but the measurement needs context: Motor Authority reported 704 hp at the wheels and identified 808 hp at the crank as Hennessey’s estimate. Those figures are not equivalent measurements.
What was the 2016 Viper Venom 800?
Hennessey’s Venom 800 was a modified 2016 Dodge Viper built around forced induction. It was not a factory Dodge model or trim. Hennessey’s 2016 video listings identify a chassis-dyno test and a customer delivery for a supercharged Venom 800 Viper, supporting that the package was built; those descriptions do not independently verify its detailed specifications. Motor Authority’s July 2016 report and Autocosmos México’s July 2016 report provide the period figures.
2016 Dodge Viper Venom 800 specs
| Specification | What period sources reported |
|---|---|
| Engine and induction | 8.4-liter V-10 with a supercharger, as described in the period Venom 800 reports. The factory Viper engine was naturally aspirated. |
| Boost | 5 psi, reported by Motor Authority and Autocosmos México. |
| Horsepower | Motor Authority reported 704 hp at the wheels on a chassis dyno and an estimated 808 hp at the crank from Hennessey. Autocosmos described the basic package as 808 hp without specifying the measurement location in the retrieved report. |
| Torque | 790 lb-ft at the crank, estimated by Hennessey as reported by Motor Authority. |
| Transmission | The factory 2016 Viper used a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual, according to FCA’s 2016 Viper overview. The period Venom 800 reports cited here do not describe a transmission change. |
| Acceleration | Motor Authority reported estimates of 0–60 mph in 2.9 seconds and a 10.5-second quarter-mile at 143 mph. Autocosmos reported 0–100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and a 10.5-second quarter-mile. |
Wheel horsepower is measured after power passes through the drivetrain; crank horsepower refers to engine output before that loss. The reported 704-wheel-hp dyno result and estimated 808-crank-hp figure therefore describe different measurement locations. Autocosmos’s 808-hp claim does not specify a location in the report, so it should not be treated as a second, directly comparable dyno result.
How much horsepower does a Hennessey Venom 800 Viper make?
The clearest period answer is that Hennessey estimated 808 hp at the crank, while a chassis-dyno result reported by Motor Authority showed 704 hp at the wheels. Motor Authority also attributed an estimated 790 lb-ft of crank torque to Hennessey. Autocosmos México called the basic Venom 800 a 808-hp version but did not specify whether that number was measured at the crank or wheels. These are 2016 reports, not a guarantee for every converted car or a standardized, independently matched test.

What did Hennessey change on the 2016 Viper?
Period reports describe a supercharger operating at 5 psi, larger or upgraded fuel injectors, an intercooler, a high-flow exhaust, and revised engine management. Autocosmos México described the electronics as optimized; Motor Authority specified custom engine management. The cited reports do not establish that every Venom 800 build had identical parts or calibration.
For context, FCA listed the stock 2016 Viper’s naturally aspirated 8.4-liter V-10 at 645 hp and 600 lb-ft, paired with a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual. The factory baseline comes from FCA’s Viper overview. The 2016 specification sheet covered multiple wheel and tire configurations, including standard Pirelli P Zero tires and ACR-specific equipment; a particular car’s trim and hardware should be checked rather than assumed.

Is the Venom 800 the same as the Venom 1000 Twin Turbo?
No. The Venom 800 reports describe a supercharged package. Autocosmos México separately discussed a “1000 Twin Turbo” configuration and reported 1,120 hp for that different setup. Its twin-turbo figure does not belong to the Venom 800 and should not be used as the Venom 800’s output. The available period reports do not provide matched testing that would support declaring one package definitively quicker or faster.

Dodge says Viper production ended in 2017. Its Viper owner page directs shoppers toward local dealers for pre-owned vehicles and points owners to Mopar parts and the owner’s manual, while warning that local dealer inventory may be limited. That information concerns Dodge and Mopar resources; it does not confirm availability or compatibility of Hennessey-specific components.
