The 2014 Audi RS 5 DTM was a purpose-built DTM touring car, not a race-prepared version of the road-going RS 5. Audi unveiled its 2014-spec car in Geneva on March 5, calling the update “RC3” internally. Its defining development theme was aerodynamic refinement, supported by suspension changes made within the limits of DTM regulations.
What the 2014 Audi RS 5 DTM was
The RS 5 DTM was Audi’s competition car for the German Touring Car Masters (DTM). Its shared RS 5 name and visual references to production Audi RS models did not make it a road car: the DTM machine was built for the series and its regulations. Audi’s March 5, 2014 launch announcement introduced the updated car at the Geneva International Motor Show and identified it internally as RC3. Audi France Media’s 2014 launch announcement
What changed on the 2014 car
Audi described the 2014 version as almost completely redesigned aerodynamically. Because DTM regulations tightly constrained the design, the work concentrated on detail rather than unrestricted changes to the car’s overall concept.
- Front appearance: a production-style honeycomb grille and reshaped air intakes gave the nose a more aggressive look.
- Mirrors and sides: the mirrors were integrated into the aerodynamic concept, and Audi added side aerodynamic elements between the axles.
- Rear bodywork: closed inner rear wheel arches and a flatter rear section were among the changes Audi highlighted.
- Suspension: Audi said it modified both front and rear suspension.
Audi Sport Vehicle Design Director Stefan Aicher described the priorities in French: “En plus de la suspension, notre priorité était d’améliorer l’aérodynamisme.” He also said, “Les règles en DTM sont strictes, c’est pourquoi le travail minutieux des détails est important.” Both statements underscore the same constraint: aerodynamic and suspension development had to work within strict series rules. 2014 Audi RS 5 DTM specifications: what is established
Audi’s available technical sheet is for the 2015 RS 5 DTM, not specifically the 2014 car. It provides a later reference for the platform, but its figures should not be presented as confirmed 2014 specifications.

How the 2014 car differs from later RS 5 DTM versions
The 2014 car should not be confused with the third-generation RS 5 DTM Audi introduced in 2017. Audi’s 2017 launch announcement discusses that later generation’s regulation and aerodynamic changes and reports output above 500 hp. Those details belong to the 2017 car, not the 2014 update. Audi’s 2014 DTM result
Audi reported that it won the 2014 DTM manufacturers’ championship. That establishes the marque’s title; it does not, on its own, establish a driver’s championship or a particular team title. Audi Japan Press Center, 2014 manufacturers’ title announcement
