The 2010 New Stratos is real, but it was not a regular-production Lancia model. The Stoschek family commissioned Pininfarina to build it as a one-off reinterpretation of the classic Stratos, using modified Ferrari 430 Scuderia components. A separate plan to build up to 25 cars under Manifattura Automobili Torino (MAT) came later, in 2018.
What is the 2010 Lancia Stratos?
“2010 Lancia Stratos” usually refers to the New Stratos: a modern, bespoke car inspired by the 1970s Lancia Stratos. The project was commissioned by Michael and Maximilian Stoschek, with Pininfarina responsible for the design and development. The 2010 project material described the result as one of a kind; it was not a new series-production model launched by Lancia.
The project’s engineering release describes a distinct development using modified and customized components from a Ferrari 430 Scuderia. The donor connection is part of the original prototype’s story, but it should not be assumed to describe every later New Stratos build.
How the New Stratos project developed
The original one-off
The Stoscheks commissioned Pininfarina in September 2008. The resulting car reworked the Ferrari-based package into a shorter, purpose-built body and chassis. According to the 2010 project engineering material, the aluminum chassis was shortened by 20 cm, and a 40 mm FIA FE45 steel roll cage was integrated.

The later MAT series plan
On February 5, 2018, MAT and New Stratos GbR announced a license agreement allowing MAT to replicate the design and sell a maximum of 25 cars worldwide. MAT’s current model page describes the move from one-off to limited series and says cars have been delivered internationally. The sources establish the announced cap and that deliveries occurred, but do not establish current stock, pricing, or whether orders are open.
Michael Stoschek described the project’s appeal in the 2018 announcement: “I am delighted that other passionate car enthusiasts can experience how successor of the most fascinating rally car from the seventies still sets the bar for design and performance today”. This is his promotional description, not an independent performance assessment.

What are the New Stratos specifications?
MAT’s current model page publishes the following figures for its New Stratos. These are manufacturer-listed specifications; the project includes multiple variants and custom builds, so confirm the specification of an individual car before treating these figures as universal.
| Specification | MAT-published figure |
|---|---|
| Engine | 4,308 cm³ V8; Bosch engine control unit |
| Maximum output | 397 kW (540 hp) at 8,200 rpm |
| Maximum torque | 519 Nm at 3,750 rpm |
| Power-to-weight ratio | 2.3 kg/hp |
| Dry weight | 1,247 kg |
| Weight distribution | 44:56 |
| Length × width × height | 4,181 × 1,971 × 1,240 mm |
| Wheelbase | 2,400 mm |
| Body | Carbon fiber |
| Suspension | Double wishbone |
| Gearbox | Six-speed sequential |
| Wheels and tires | 19-inch center-lock rims; 265/30 R19 front and 315/30 R19 rear |
| Brakes | Carbon discs; six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers |
The original 2010 engineering document instead describes the prototype’s Ferrari 430 Scuderia-derived 4.3-liter V8 and reports 200 km/h in 9.7 seconds. That figure belongs to the prototype’s project material, not necessarily to every MAT-series or custom-built car.

How does its design reference the classic Stratos?
The 2010 project release identifies the design cues that link the New Stratos to the rally-era original: a wedge-shaped body, semi-circular windshield, central radiator, round rear lights, roof and rear spoiler, and five-star wheels. Pininfarina translated those recognizable forms into a modern car rather than reproducing the original as a routine factory model.
The engineering changes were substantial as well as visual. The project release says the New Stratos body was 33 cm shorter than the Ferrari 430 Scuderia’s, while the aluminum chassis was shortened by 20 cm. The compact proportions helped distinguish the bespoke car from its donor while retaining the Ferrari-based underpinnings.

Was the New Stratos actually made, and can you buy one?
Yes. The original prototype was built, and MAT later announced a series capped at 25 cars; MAT says some have been delivered internationally. That does not establish that a car is currently for sale or that MAT is accepting new orders. The available official information does not state a current price or remaining allocation. For a purchase enquiry, contact MAT directly and verify the exact car’s build, specification, provenance, and current status.

The New Stratos project archive describes a development photo book containing more than 200 photographs and a 20-minute DVD. Those details are historical; they do not confirm current availability. The archive also documents the original project’s engineering and design history.
