Engine oil
The manual permits several engine-oil viscosity grades and specifies API SG or higher and JASO MA. Spark plugs
Yamaha specifies NGK CPR8EB9 spark plugs with a 0.8–0.9 mm gap. Confirm year, market and fitment for the individual motorcycle before buying replacements; a model name alone does not verify that a part suits every regional variant.
Fuel
The manual specifies premium unleaded gasoline. Use the fuel guidance in the correct manual for your market rather than inferring a fuel-octane requirement from another region’s specification.

What to check before riding
Yamaha’s pre-operation inspection covers systems that can affect safe operation. The manual warns: “Failure to inspect or maintain the vehicle properly increases the possibility of an accident or equipment damage.” Follow the manual’s inspection steps and do not ride if a safety-critical problem remains unresolved.

Maintenance schedule and service work

Use the chart in the correct manual for your motorcycle’s market and service history; do not assume a schedule from another edition applies unchanged.

Yamaha advises owners without the necessary tools or experience to have a Yamaha dealer perform the work. Keep records of completed maintenance, including date and mileage, so the next service can be planned against the applicable interval.
Accessories and electrical additions
Yamaha cautions that accessories can reduce ground or cornering clearance, restrict suspension or steering travel, interfere with controls, or destabilize the motorcycle through weight distribution or aerodynamic effects. Electrical accessories that exceed system capacity can cause electrical failure.
