The 2012 Kawasaki KX250F is a motocross competition motorcycle with a 249 cm³, liquid-cooled, four-stroke DOHC single and primary kick starting. Before ordering parts or following a repair procedure, match the bike’s year and model code: Kawasaki’s 2012 owner manual and parts diagrams identify it as KX250YCF, while a service-manual listing describes 2011–2012 KX250YB/YC coverage. For a used bike, check the individual VIN for open recalls; a model-year search cannot confirm a particular motorcycle’s status.

What is the 2012 Kawasaki KX250F?

It is a motocross bike intended for competition use, so its maintenance schedule is organized around races and operating hours rather than a generic street-motorcycle interval. Kawasaki’s owner-manual listing identifies the 2012 manual as “KX250YCF (2012)” and says it covers safety, operation, maintenance and storage. Kawasaki’s 2012 owner-manual listing

How to identify the right manual and parts

Start with the motorcycle’s identification label and VIN, then match the model code and year to the publication or parts diagram. “KX250F” by itself may not be enough to distinguish year or market coverage.

Owner’s manual

Use the 2012 KX250YCF owner’s manual for safety, operating, maintenance and storage guidance. Kawasaki describes its owner manuals as including those subjects on its official manual page.

Service manual

A retailer’s listing identifies Kawasaki service-manual publication 99924-1437-02 for 2011–2012 KX250YB/YC coverage. It describes procedures and information for systems including fuel injection, cooling, engine top end, clutch, lubrication, transmission, wheels and tires, final drive, brakes, suspension, steering, frame and electrical components. Verify the document’s edition and exact model-code coverage against the bike before purchasing; the listing is a retailer description, not the manual itself. 2011–2012 service-manual listing

OEM parts diagrams

Kawasaki’s model-specific diagrams show part names and OEM numbers. Select the 2012 KX250YCF diagram, confirm the number against the component and check current availability or supersession before ordering. Kawasaki 2012 KX250YCF parts diagrams include a separate generator diagram.

What maintenance does a 2012 KX250F need?

Follow the competition periodic-maintenance chart in the correct owner’s or service manual. Its tasks are scheduled at different race counts and operating-hour intervals, so there is no single “service every X hours” rule that accurately covers the bike. The chart includes engine-oil changes and oil-filter replacement, as well as periodic inspection and replacement tasks. A reproduced 2012 owner’s-manual excerpt provides manual material; use the exact chart in the applicable manual for the interval of each task.

Treat those detailed intervals as secondary guidance and verify them in the correct Kawasaki manual before using them as a service plan. moto.care’s 2012 KX250F maintenance schedule

Coolant checks

The reproduced owner’s-manual excerpt says to check coolant with the engine cold. It specifies a 1:1 water-to-antifreeze mixture and a total coolant amount of 1.2 L (1.3 US qt). The antifreeze should be permanent ethylene glycol with corrosion and rust inhibitors suitable for aluminum engines and radiators. Follow the manual’s procedure and warnings when opening the radiator. 2012 owner’s-manual excerpt

How to check a used bike for recalls

  1. Locate the motorcycle’s VIN and confirm it matches the bike’s identification records.
  2. Open Kawasaki’s Safety Recall lookup and enter the VIN/HIN as requested.
  3. Review the result for outstanding recalls and contact Kawasaki or an authorized dealer if the result requires clarification or repair scheduling.

Kawasaki’s recall page says its recall history goes back to September 18, 2011 and requires a VIN/HIN lookup. The page reported a September 18, 2026 data update when checked; recall information can change. A model-year search does not establish whether an individual motorcycle has an unrepaired campaign.

What to check before buying one

  • Match the identification label and VIN to the claimed year and model code before choosing manuals or parts.
  • Ask for maintenance records, particularly documentation of scheduled oil and filter service and other hour-based work.
  • Inspect the actual motorcycle and assess its condition rather than relying on generalized claims about reliability. The available sources establish no model-specific defect trend.
  • Run the VIN through Kawasaki’s recall lookup to check the individual motorcycle’s outstanding-recall status.
