Consult the owner’s manual before work
Harley-Davidson’s 2010 owner’s manual advises owners to read it before riding, installing accessories or servicing the motorcycle. How to confirm a part before buying
- Identify the motorcycle precisely. Record its full 17-digit VIN and note its market, installed accessories and relevant repair history.
- Check the correct factory manual and parts catalog. Confirm that the documents apply to the model and market, and use the catalog for parts-ordering information rather than assembly instructions.
- Cross-check the part number. Compare the number in the catalog with the candidate part and any retailer listing; do not rely on the abbreviated model name alone.
- Ask Harley-Davidson or a qualified parts source if anything differs. Provide the full VIN and correct part number so compatibility can be checked for that motorcycle.
