The 2009 Nissan Altima sedan came in four trims, with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder or 3.5-liter V6. Nissan’s model-year starting price was $19,900 for the 2.5 CVT sedan; Kelley Blue Book’s national typical-condition used estimates currently range from $2,775 to $4,125, but a specific car’s value depends on its condition, mileage, location and trim. The coupe and hybrid had different configurations and prices, so their figures should not be confused with the sedan’s.
2009 Altima sedan trims, engines and transmissions
Nissan listed four conventional sedan models. Transmission availability depended on trim:
| Trim | Engine | Transmission |
|---|---|---|
| 2.5 | 2.5-liter four-cylinder | CVT |
| 2.5 S | 2.5-liter four-cylinder | Six-speed manual or CVT |
| 3.5 SE | 3.5-liter V6 | Six-speed manual or CVT |
| 3.5 SL | 3.5-liter V6 | CVT |
According to Nissan’s 2009 model-year specifications, the 2.5-liter DOHC four-cylinder makes 175 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque in most specifications. California-specification cars are listed at 170 hp and 175 lb-ft. The 3.5-liter DOHC V6 is rated at 270 hp and 258 lb-ft.
What differs between the 2.5 and 3.5?
The 2.5 uses a four-cylinder engine and is the lower-output choice; the 3.5 has a V6 with substantially higher quoted output. Engine choice also changes fuel guidance: Nissan’s owner’s manual calls for at least 87-AKI regular gasoline for the 2.5, while recommending at least 91-AKI premium for the 3.5. If premium is unavailable, the manual permits 87-AKI regular for the V6 but warns that performance may decrease. Nissan specifies API-certified SAE 5W-30 engine oil. Confirm the actual engine and under-hood label before buying fuel or service supplies.

What is a 2009 Altima worth now?
Kelley Blue Book’s page, accessed in 2026, displays national average used purchase estimates from $2,775 to $4,125 across 2009 Altima trims. KBB describes its estimates as typical-condition dealer purchase values that vary with mileage, condition, location and other factors, and says they are updated weekly. Coupe and hybrid: separate configurations
Altima Coupe
Nissan’s 2009 coupe lineup included 2.5 S and 3.5 SE models, with manual and CVT choices. Its body style, equipment and original prices differ from the sedan, so compare coupe listings with coupes rather than sedan values.
Altima Hybrid
The hybrid was offered in select markets and had a distinct powertrain. Nissan reported 198 hp net output and EPA-estimated fuel economy of 35 mpg city and 33 mpg highway for the 2009 model year. Those are model-year estimates, not a prediction of real-world mileage for an older used example. Nissan listed its original price at $26,650. See Nissan’s 2009 Altima Hybrid information.

The published specifications and images are a useful reference, but the actual used car’s trim, options, paint and condition should be verified in person.
Nissan reported five stars for front- and side-impact crash safety and noted that the tested vehicle had standard side airbags. Its material lists front, front-seat side and roof-mounted curtain airbags, along with ABS, EBD and TPMS.
