The 2007 Yamaha FZ1 is not one identical motorcycle in every market: the model year includes naked FZ1-N and faired FZ1-S/Fazer forms, with market-specific model codes. Yamaha’s 2007 export-spec Fazer press information describes a 998 cm³ liquid-cooled DOHC inline-four with electronic fuel injection and an 18 L fuel tank; those figures are not established here as universal across all versions.
What is the 2007 Yamaha FZ1?
Yamaha presented the FZ1 Fazer as an export-spec sports/all-rounder, intended to combine sport-bike performance with practical use around town and on winding roads. Its press information lists a liquid-cooled, four-stroke DOHC inline-four, 998 cm³ displacement, electronic fuel injection and an 18 L tank. Which 2007 FZ1 variant do you have?
The 2007 service manual identifies FZ1-N(W), FZ1-S(W) and FZ1-SA forms, with codes that vary by market, including European, French/Belgian and Australian applications. The N is the naked form; the S/Fazer is semi-faired. A shared FZ1 name or model year alone is not enough to establish that a procedure or replacement part fits.
- Read the motorcycle’s identification and model code, then match it to the correct market and manual.
- Check the manual’s applicability before using its specifications or maintenance instructions.
- For parts, verify exact variant and market fitment with the supplier rather than relying only on “2007 FZ1.”
Yamaha’s owner manual also cautions that products and specifications may change and can differ from the printed manual. The 2007 Yamaha FZ1-N owner manual and 2007 Yamaha FZ1-S owner manual are distinct references. What to check before buying a used 2007 FZ1
Start by confirming the machine’s identity and then judge the specific example, not just its model-year description. The available documentation does not establish a comparative performance verdict between naked and faired versions, so condition, records and configuration matter more than assumptions based on the badge.
- Identify the version and market. Match the model code and motorcycle identification to the correct owner or service manual before evaluating specifications or parts.
- Review maintenance records. Look for evidence of routine oil and filter service, coolant attention, valve-clearance checks, air-filter replacement, brake and tire checks, and drive-chain care. The manual’s maintenance chart assumes normal riding conditions; its intervals may need shortening for weather, terrain, geography and individual use.
- Inspect for modifications and condition. Compare the bike’s visible configuration and installed parts with its claimed variant. The documentation here does not verify any individual motorcycle’s original equipment, modifications or mechanical condition.
- Check recall status by VIN. A model-year search is general information and does not establish whether a specific bike has an unrepaired recall. Use NHTSA’s recall lookup with the VIN, then confirm campaign completion with Yamaha or an authorized dealer.
Maintenance details that matter
Follow the correct schedule
Yamaha’s maintenance chart is general guidance for normal conditions, not a universal schedule for every rider or market. Weather, terrain, geography and individual use can require shorter intervals. Check the applicable owner manual’s chart for the motorcycle’s exact version and units rather than applying a schedule from another FZ1.

The manual’s maintenance coverage includes engine oil and filter, coolant, air filter, valve clearance, tires, brakes, drive-chain slack, battery, fuses and troubleshooting. If you are not familiar with maintenance work, Yamaha’s owner manual advises: “If you are not familiar with maintenance work, have a Yamaha dealer do it for you.”
Air filter
The documented air filter is a disposable oil-coated paper element. Yamaha says not to clean it with compressed air and to replace it more often when the motorcycle is ridden in unusually wet or dusty conditions. Check the correct owner manual and fitment for the exact variant before replacing it.

Drive chain
For the documented chain procedure, Yamaha specifies cleaning with kerosene and a small soft brush, drying the chain, then thoroughly applying special O-ring chain lubricant. Lubricate after washing the motorcycle or riding in rain. Avoid steam cleaners, high-pressure washers and inappropriate solvents that can damage O-rings; Yamaha also warns against engine oil and other lubricants that may harm them. Use safe workshop practices and follow the manual for your specific version.
