The 2007 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR FQ-360 was a UK-market, limited-run high-output version of the four-wheel-drive Evo IX, combining a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with a six-speed manual gearbox. Period publications quoted 366 hp and 363 lb-ft, and reported a 0–62 mph time of 3.9 seconds. Those are historical published figures, not results from a current test.

What is the 2007 Evo IX MR FQ-360?

It is a UK-market member of the Lancer Evolution IX’s FQ performance range. The 2007 UK lineup included FQ-300, FQ-320, FQ-340 and FQ-360 versions; evo describes the FQ cars as Ralliart modifications based on the high-spec GSR. The designation is therefore specific to that UK range, not a generic international Evo IX trim name. One later guide refers to the limited model as the “MR FQ-360 by HKS.” The available sources describe production as limited but do not establish a definitive total. evo’s Evolution coverage and PistonHeads’ Evo IX buying guide provide context.

What changed with the Evolution IX and MR?

Evo IX engine and body revisions

Mitsubishi dates the Evolution IX launch to March 2005. It was the first Evolution to use MIVEC variable valve timing on the intake side of its turbocharged engine. Mitsubishi says the IX also used a titanium-magnesium turbocharger, intended to improve torque and response. Other changes included cooling and aerodynamic revisions, such as front-bumper air ducting, a diffuser-type rear bumper and a hollow carbon-fiber rear spoiler. The car retained an aluminum roof panel, Bilstein dampers and Brembo ventilated discs. Mitsubishi Motors’ corporate history summarizes the model changes.

MR hardware

Mitsubishi dates the MR’s launch to August 2006. Its identified hardware changes include Eibach coil springs and a revised turbocharger with a titanium-alloy turbine wheel and aluminum-alloy compressor wheel. Mitsubishi says the turbo revision improved response. These manufacturer-described MR changes should not be confused with the separate FQ-360 output figures published by period road tests.

2007 Mitsubishi Evo IX MR FQ-360 specifications

Specification Period published figure
Engine 1,997 cc turbocharged, intercooled inline-four, according to MotorTrend’s 2007 listing
Power 366 hp at 6,887 rpm, according to MotorTrend in 2007
Torque 363 lb-ft at 3,200 rpm, according to MotorTrend in 2007
Transmission and drive Six-speed manual and four-wheel drive, according to MotorTrend in 2007
0–62 mph 3.9 seconds, according to Car Enthusiast in 2007
Top speed 157 mph, according to Car Enthusiast in 2007
Kerb weight 1,420 kg, according to Car Enthusiast in 2007
Combined fuel economy 19.6 mpg, a period published specification from Car Enthusiast in 2007
CO₂ emissions 334 g/km, a period published specification from Car Enthusiast in 2007
UK on-the-road price £35,629, the historical price listed by Car Enthusiast in 2007; not a current valuation

The figures are attributed to the publications that reported them: MotorTrend’s 2007 FQ-360 listing and Car Enthusiast’s 2007 review. Mitsubishi’s history page describes the IX engine and MR revisions but does not provide an FQ-360-specific output figure in the cited passage. A general Evo IX specification from another market should not be substituted for these UK FQ-360 figures.

How fast is it, and what do the figures mean?

Car Enthusiast reported 0–62 mph in 3.9 seconds and a 157 mph top speed in 2007. MotorTrend’s 2007 listing put peak output at 366 hp and peak torque at 363 lb-ft. Together, those period numbers describe a compact saloon with a strong turbocharged engine, four-wheel drive and a close-ratio six-speed manual configuration. They are published specifications, not a guarantee that an individual car will achieve them today; condition, modifications, tyres and test conditions matter.

Fuel-use anecdotes need similar care. An evo-published account from 2007 quotes an FQ-340 owner reporting 25 mpg while driving steadily. That is one owner’s observation about an FQ-340, not a controlled test or an FQ-360 economy figure. The period FQ-360 combined figure above is the relevant published specification, but real-world consumption will vary.

How can you tell whether an Evo IX is a genuine FQ-360?

Appearance alone is not enough. RAC warns that lower-specification cars can be modified to resemble higher FQ variants. Check the registration documents and seek supporting build or provenance records; have a specialist assess whether the car’s identity, hardware and history align with the seller’s claim. Do not treat badges or added performance parts as proof of an original FQ-360.

Exact production totals are not settled by the available sources. PistonHeads gives an estimate of fewer than 250, while another guide gives 200; neither is established here by manufacturer production records. “Limited numbers” is the supportable description, rather than either figure as a confirmed total. The FQ-400 is a different model, so its hardware and output should not be attributed to the FQ-360. RAC’s used-car review discusses identity checks and common inspection points; evo’s Evolution coverage distinguishes the FQ range and other versions.

What should you check before buying one?

Ask for a model-specialist inspection rather than relying on a visual walk-around. RAC’s guidance highlights records, modifications, crash repair and diagnostic access; the following checks help turn those prompts into a practical inspection.

  • Identity and records: Match the registration papers to the car and examine service records and any documentation supporting its FQ-360 provenance.
  • Engine and boost changes: Ask what has been modified, particularly around boost, and whether the work is documented. An altered car may not reflect the period specification.
  • Accident repairs: Look for evidence of crash damage and repairs, with particular attention to the quality and documentation of structural work.
  • Servicing and lubricants: Confirm that maintenance has been regular and that the correct lubricant and schedule were followed. Use the vehicle’s appropriate service information rather than assuming a generic interval.
  • Super AYC diagnostics: Ask whether a technician can diagnose the Super AYC system with Mitsubishi’s MUT-II tool or suitable specialist capability; RAC identifies diagnostic access as a consideration.
  • Wear and running costs: Inspect tyres, brake discs and pads, clutch, suspension and the Recaro seat reclining function. RAC specifically flags tyres, brake parts and clutch kits as potential expense categories; it does not establish current prices or availability.

A specialist inspection can identify condition and repair concerns, but it cannot by itself prove the car’s original variant identity; use records and registration details for that question.

What is not established about the FQ-360?

The cited material does not establish a manufacturer-confirmed production count, current market value, present-day parts availability or a universal real-world fuel-consumption figure. The 2007 price is historical context, not a guide to what a car is worth now. Published performance figures remain useful for understanding the model, but they should not be represented as newly measured results.
