A June 2006 road test presented it as an easygoing choice for city travel and weekend roads, while Aprilia’s workshop manual offers practical service intervals for owners considering a used example. The figures and impressions below are period or manual references—not a current test or a report on any individual bike.
What kind of motorcycle is the Pegaso 650 Strada?
Dueruote’s 14 June 2006 road test called the Strada an “easy motard” and described it as versatile for urban use and weekend riding. The test identifies the 2005 Strada as an all-new model and the basis for the Trail version. That makes the Strada the road-oriented member of the family in the period account; it does not, by itself, establish how a particular used bike will suit a rider or route.
The test praised maneuverability, a broad padded seat and suspension comfort, and noted storage beneath the seat plus a smaller compartment above the tank. These are observations from that 2006 ride, not guarantees about the ergonomics or condition of a motorcycle today.
Engine, chassis and published specifications
The period test describes a fuel-injected, four-valve Minarelli/Yamaha single with a light-alloy cylinder and balancer shaft. It reports output as “una cinquantina di CV a 6.250 giri”—about 50 CV at 6,250 rpm. A separate 2006 Unimotors technical-specification page lists 650 cc, 48 PS and 35 kW. Those are source-specific published figures; the available material does not establish why they differ, so they should not be treated as interchangeable measurements.

The test also describes a steel open-cradle frame incorporating the oil tank. The specification details are useful for identifying the period design, but an inspection of the actual motorcycle and its documentation matters more than assuming every surviving example remains to factory condition.
Maintenance references to check before buying
The Aprilia Pegaso 650 Strada/Trail workshop manual (12/2005) sets out a running-in check at 1,000 km, periodic operations at 10,000 km or 12 months, and longer intervals including 20,000 km or 24 months. It says to halve intervals for rainy or dusty conditions, uneven surfaces or competition use. These are the manual’s service instructions, not evidence that a particular motorcycle received the work.

The manual states: “Have the final drive checked (rear, front sprockets and chain) every 5000 km (3125 mi) by an aprilia Authorised Dealer.” Its service chart also includes brake fluid, coolant, spark plug, fork, tyres, lights, safety switches and brake-pad wear. Ask for dated records and have a qualified mechanic inspect the specific bike; service schedules cannot diagnose wear, neglect or damage.
The owner’s manual covering Pegaso 650 I.E. Strada/Trail makes the owner responsible for accessory choice, installation and use. It warns against accessories that obstruct lights or controls, restrict steering or suspension travel, or impair stability. An older Aprilia use-and-maintenance manual directs owners to authorised dealers for genuine parts and model-specific advice; that period guidance does not confirm present-day parts stock.

Period touring accessories and practical fitment
Dueruote listed these accessories for the model era:
- Adjustable windshield with two positions
- Raised seat
- Rear top case in 32–45 litre capacities
- Semi-rigid side cases
- Tank bag
The period test confirms that these options were offered then, not that they remain available now or will fit every year and trim. For a used accessory, verify mounting hardware and model fitment before purchase, and check that installation leaves lighting, controls, suspension movement and steering unobstructed.

What to verify on a used Strada
For a prospective buyer, the most useful next step is to connect the bike’s paperwork and physical condition to the manual’s schedule rather than infer reliability from the model’s reputation.
