D.K. (Drift King Takashi), played by Brian Tee in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, drives a Nissan 350Z associated with the 2003 model year. Its signature look comes from a Veilside Version 3 wide-body conversion, while its twin-turbo power figures vary by source. The production used a fleet of 350Zs, not one car for every shot.
What car does D.K. drive in Tokyo Drift?
D.K.’s dark hero car is a Nissan 350Z, also known as the Fairlady Z in some markets. Nissan’s press kit says the 350Z went on sale in the United States and Canada in August 2002 as a 2003 model. The production car was a two-seat, front-engine, rear-wheel-drive hatchback coupe rated at 287 horsepower. Nissan’s 350Z press kit describes the model’s launch and specifications.
What makes the movie 350Z look different?
Veilside Version 3 wide-body conversion
The screen car’s most recognizable feature is its Veilside Version 3 wide-body bodywork. Production coordinator Dennis McCarthy told Edmunds that the crew first noticed a 350Z wearing a Veilside conversion at Irwindale, and director Justin Lin liked it. The movie build’s widened, heavily modified appearance is distinct from the standard production 350Z.
Twin-turbo engine and conflicting horsepower reports
The movie car is reported as twin-turbocharged, but its horsepower is not consistently stated. Newera Imports lists the high-tune Veilside car at 430 bhp and 420 lb-ft, and Road & Track reports 430 horsepower based on Craig Lieberman’s account. Edmunds, meanwhile, says two APS twin-turbo 350Zs produced around 475 horsepower. The accounts do not explain whether the difference reflects a separate tune, configuration, or measurement convention, so neither figure should be treated as a universally established output.

How many 350Zs were used in the film?
Edmunds reported that the crew ultimately assembled 11 Nissan 350Zs. They served different purposes, including hero-car work, drift scenes, background use, and crash sequences; the film did not rely on one physical Z for every appearance.

As McCarthy put it in the 2006 Edmunds feature, “I think we ended up with 11 350Zs.” The broader fleet supported the practical demands of filming stunts and multiple scenes.
Is the surviving screen-used D.K. car authenticated?
Newera Imports describes a surviving Veilside 350Z as the actual car driven by Takashi in the film. It says eight Veilside-built 350Zs went to Hollywood, six were destroyed during filming, and that it holds documentation for the car’s passage to and from the United States. These are the importer’s provenance claims, not independent authentication established by the available reporting. Treat a seller’s screen-used description and paperwork as claims to evaluate, rather than conclusive proof on their own.
