How to read this list
A sleek body, electric drivetrain or autonomous-driving feature does not by itself make a vehicle production-ready. The 16 entries below span concept designs, experimental projects, announced products and vehicles with documented commercial or regular-service use. Range figures are meaningful only alongside the vehicle type, configuration and conditions attached to them; a city bus figure is not directly comparable to a coach or long-haul truck.
16 futuristic trucks and buses
1. Mercedes-Benz Future Bus — concept
Mercedes-Benz presented the Future Bus as a vision for urban transit, with a flowing exterior and automated-driving technology. It is a concept, not evidence of an autonomous bus operating in ordinary public service. Its appeal is the attempt to combine a recognizable city-bus job with a more automated, futuristic design.
2. Volvo Vera — experimental transport system
Volvo Vera is a low, cabless electric vehicle designed for repetitive, short-haul goods movements in controlled logistics settings. Its unusual form reflects its intended role: moving trailers between fixed points rather than serving as a conventional road tractor for long-distance driving. The concept and pilot activity should not be mistaken for a widely available truck.

3. Willie Transparent LCD Bus — display concept
This bus concept imagines using transparent LCD panels on windows to show information or imagery while preserving some visibility through the glass. It is a speculative treatment of passenger-facing displays, not a documented commercial bus model. The design raises practical questions about legibility, daylight, passenger comfort and what information belongs on a moving vehicle.
4. Hyundai HDC-6 Neptune — hydrogen truck concept
Hyundai unveiled the HDC-6 Neptune as a heavy-duty truck concept inspired by streamlined rail equipment and intended to explore hydrogen fuel-cell transport. Its rounded cab and enclosed appearance stand apart from conventional tractor-trailers. It signals a possible direction for zero-tailpipe-emission freight, but a concept reveal does not establish production timing or fleet availability.
5. Ford F-Vision Electric Truck — concept
Ford’s F-Vision concept pairs an aerodynamic, enclosed cab with an electric-truck premise. Its smooth front and integrated bodywork are designed to look more like a single aerodynamic form than a traditional truck cab. Treat it as a design study rather than a production specification: the concept does not establish a range, payload or launch date for a commercial vehicle.
6. Transit Elevated Bus — proposed transit concept
The Transit Elevated Bus was promoted as a way to carry passengers above road traffic while cars passed underneath. The unusual proposal drew attention because it promised to use existing roads differently rather than build a conventional elevated rail line. It remained a proposal and demonstration concept; it should not be counted as an operating mass-transit system.

7. Tesla Semi — announced electric heavy truck
The Tesla Semi applies battery-electric propulsion to tractor-trailer freight, a demanding use case because heavy loads and long distances make energy storage and charging logistics central. It is more than a styling concept, but claims about price, range, production scale or current availability need current, configuration-specific confirmation. Those details are not established here, so they should not be inferred from older listicle figures.
8. Scania NXT — modular autonomous concept
Scania NXT was presented as a modular urban-transport concept: a passenger section could be replaced with a cargo module for a different duty. A 2020 technical review by the Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan describes the concept shown at the 2019 UITP summit as an autonomous bus with capacity for 50 passengers. That description documents the proposed design, not current autonomous public-service operation. Read the Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan technical review.
9. NEXT Future Transportation — modular electric pods
NEXT Future Transportation has explored small electric modules that can connect and separate, allowing a vehicle to adapt its capacity to demand. The idea is visually distinctive because the vehicle is treated as a set of movable passenger pods rather than one fixed bus. Its modularity is a concept direction; it does not establish a standard city fleet or autonomous service currently in operation.
10. Volvo VNL — conventional long-haul truck with modern design
The Volvo VNL is a production truck family, not a futuristic concept vehicle. Its inclusion makes the list useful as a reminder that future-facing design can also mean refining a familiar long-haul tractor for contemporary fleet needs. Specific pricing, powertrain options and performance depend on model year and configuration, and are not summarized here as current figures.

11. Mercedes-Benz Future Truck 2025 — autonomous-driving concept
Mercedes-Benz’s Future Truck 2025 demonstrated a vision for automated highway driving, with a cab and sensor-equipped design intended to communicate a shift away from constant manual operation on suitable roads. The “2025” name refers to the concept’s future-facing framing, not proof that this particular truck entered routine autonomous service in that year.
12. IVECO Z Truck — long-haul efficiency concept
IVECO’s Z Truck concept explored how a long-distance truck could reduce dependence on fossil fuel through alternative energy and aerodynamic design. Its distinctive cab and streamlined surfaces make the efficiency ambition visible. It is a concept vehicle, so its features should not be read as a production model specification or a demonstrated fleet result.
13. Freightliner eM2 — commercial electric medium-duty truck
The Freightliner eM2 was developed for medium-duty work such as local and regional delivery, where predictable routes and return-to-base charging can make battery-electric operation more practical than on every long-haul route. Model-year and market availability can change; historical prices or range claims should not be treated as current without checking the manufacturer’s latest specifications.
14. Walmart Advanced Truck — prototype design
Walmart’s Advanced Truck was a forward-looking prototype built around a highly aerodynamic profile and a driver-centered cab. It explored how freight equipment might reduce drag and improve the driving environment. It is a prototype, not evidence of a truck model generally available to carriers or a verified current fuel-economy result.
15. Volvo 7900 Electric Bus — commercial electric city bus
The Volvo 7900 Electric belongs to the practical end of the list: a battery-electric city-bus model designed for stop-and-go urban routes. It illustrates why transit electrification is a different engineering challenge from electrifying a long-haul truck: passenger capacity, route length, charging opportunities and depot planning all shape the useful configuration. Current product availability and specifications vary by market and model year.
16. Freightliner SuperTruck — efficiency research demonstrator
Freightliner SuperTruck refers to an efficiency-focused development program and demonstrator, rather than a regular retail truck model. The program explored improvements in aerodynamics, powertrain efficiency and vehicle systems for heavy-duty freight. A research demonstrator’s targets or test results should not be generalized to ordinary trucks without the test conditions and vehicle configuration.

Urban delivery: Renault Trucks Oxygen
Renault Trucks describes Oxygen as an experimental 16-tonne electric truck for urban logistics. Its lowered cab, broad windscreen and camera-based mirrors are intended to improve what the driver can see around the vehicle during city deliveries. Renault said a 26-tonne refrigerated version began testing in Amsterdam in October 2024. These are project and test statements, not a claim that Oxygen is a production model. Renault Trucks’ Oxygen project announcement and its current project page describe the work.
City transit: Mercedes-Benz eCitaro
Mercedes-Benz says the battery-electric eCitaro has been offered since 2018, with the articulated version following in 2020. The manufacturer’s current page lists maximum combined battery capacities of 666 kWh for the solo and K variants and 777 kWh for the articulated G. It gives maximum-equipment ranges of 600 km for solo/K and 480 km for G. Those are Mercedes-Benz figures tied to maximum battery equipment, not a single guaranteed operating range for every route or configuration. MAN announced the battery-electric Lion’s Coach 14 E in October 2025. MAN lists usable battery capacity of 320–480 kWh and capacity for up to 63 passengers; it states a range of up to 650 km under optimal conditions. The qualifier matters: it is the manufacturer’s stated upper figure under optimal conditions, not a universal coach range. MAN’s October 2025 announcement.
Regular service at high capacity: Volvo buses in Goiânia
Volvo Buses reported on February 5, 2026, that Goiânia, Brazil, had launched 21 electric buses for regular service: 16 articulated and five bi-articulated vehicles, built on Volvo BZRT chassis with Marcopolo bodies. Volvo says the 28-metre bi-articulated bus can carry up to 250 passengers. This is a reported fleet deployment, a different status from a concept or test project; the capacity is the manufacturer’s stated maximum. Volvo Buses’ Goiânia announcement.
Historical technical example: Ebusco 3.0
A 2020 technical review by the Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan described the Ebusco 3.0 as a low-floor electric bus with a composite body and camera mirror system, reporting a cruising range of 500 km. That is a dated figure from the review, not a current independently validated operating range. The Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan review.
Quick Recap
How to judge a futuristic vehicle claim
- Check its stage: a concept, prototype, test vehicle, announced product and regular-service fleet are not interchangeable.
- Match the duty: city transit, urban delivery, intercity coaching and long-haul freight have different payloads, route profiles and charging needs.
- Read the conditions beside the number: note who published a range or capacity, when, for which configuration, and whether the figure is stated as a maximum or under ideal conditions.
- Separate automation from appearance: a cabless or sensor-heavy concept does not prove autonomous operation in public service.
