There was no official “game-changing” top 15 for 2024. This selection instead highlights concept cars and clearly labeled show cars, prototypes, and demonstrators that signaled a distinct design direction, mobility idea, technology path, or market strategy. Several were aimed specifically at China; others sketched global or future-model plans. Their features are proposals, not production specifications.
What makes these concepts worth watching?
A concept car can be a design proposal, a preview of a planned vehicle, or a technology demonstrator. Those labels matter: a manufacturer’s stated goal is not proof that a feature will reach a showroom. The 15 entries below span CES 2024, Auto China 2024, and the Paris Motor Show. They are grouped by the direction they suggest, not ranked.
The scale of the shows gives context, not a verdict on any individual car. Auto China’s organizers reported 117 global premieres, including 30 by multinational companies, and 41 concept cars in 2024. The Paris Motor Show was the 90th edition, held October 14–20, 2024.
Global EV design and new vehicle formats
1. Honda 0 Series Saloon
Honda presented the Saloon at CES as the flagship of its global 0 Series EV direction: low and sporty, with a design intended to depart from the familiar proportions of many electric cars. Honda said in 2024 that a North American model based on the Saloon was planned for 2026. 2. Honda 0 Series Space-Hub
Shown alongside the Saloon at CES, the Space-Hub was Honda’s second global 0 Series concept. Its significance in the pair is the breadth of the design exercise: Honda used two different vehicle forms to communicate a shared EV direction rather than presenting a single body style as the whole strategy. 3. Kia PV5 Concept
The PV5 was one of five Kia Platform Beyond Vehicle concepts shown at CES. Kia framed the PBV program around modular, purpose-built vehicles: the idea is to adapt a vehicle platform and configuration to specific uses rather than treat every vehicle as a conventional passenger car. The concept communicates that product strategy; the cited announcement does not establish the PV5’s final production equipment or specifications. Kia’s CES PBV announcement.
China-focused EV concepts and connected cabins
Honda’s Ye GT, Nissan’s four NEV concepts, and Volkswagen’s ID. CODE were presented with China in mind. Their market framing is central to what they represent; their appearance at international news outlets should not be mistaken for an announced North American or European sales plan.
4. Honda Ye GT CONCEPT
This low, wide GT was part of Honda’s Ye electric series for China. Honda described an immersive driver position and a far-focus display for the front passenger, giving the concept a cabin idea as well as a sporty exterior direction. These are manufacturer-described concept features, not confirmed production equipment. Honda’s Ye announcement.
5. Nissan Epoch Concept
Nissan described the Epoch as an EV sedan concept for China, with an AI-enabled assistant and connected functions as part of its vision. That makes it a proposal for a digitally connected sedan as well as an electric one; the announcement does not establish production specifications or a sales plan outside its stated market context. 6. Nissan Epic Concept
The Epic was an EV SUV concept framed around both city use and weekend adventure. Nissan also said it could serve as a mobile power source. Those use cases suggest how the company wanted the concept to fit into daily life, but the cited release does not provide a verified production configuration or power-delivery specification. 7. Nissan Era Concept
Unlike the Epoch and Epic, the Era was a plug-in hybrid SUV concept. Nissan positioned its cabin as a second living space, emphasizing interior experience and versatility. The description is a concept aim, not a confirmed account of production equipment or electric driving range. Nissan’s Auto China release.
8. Nissan Evo Concept
The Evo was a plug-in hybrid sedan concept aimed at family trips. Nissan described driver-support and assistant features as part of the proposal, connecting the long-distance family-car role to onboard technology. The available description does not establish how those functions would work in a production model. Nissan’s Auto China release.
9. Volkswagen ID. CODE
Volkswagen Group called the ID. CODE a China-exclusive concept and placed it within its “in China, for China” strategy. The concept therefore signals a regional product-development approach, not a global model announcement. Group CEO Oliver Blume said the company aimed to remain the leading international car manufacturer in China and was accelerating innovation with Chinese partners. What Nissan’s China concepts did—and did not—debut
Nissan also displayed Hyper Force and Hyper Punk at Auto China, but they were not 2024 debuts: Nissan said both had premiered at the Japan Mobility Show the previous October. The four NEV concepts above are the China-show entries in this selection. Nissan’s Auto China release.

Paris concepts: future models, show cars, and demonstrators
10. Citroën C5 Aircross Concept
The Paris Motor Show organizer listed the C5 Aircross Concept among the event’s world premieres. That establishes its place in the show, but the cited organizer material does not support additional technical claims about its powertrain, dimensions, or production equipment. Paris Motor Show 2024.
11. Renault 4 concept
Renault Group explicitly identified the Renault 4 as a concept car in its 2024 Paris presentation. It belongs in a roundup of future-facing ideas, but the cited announcement does not establish production specifications or confirm that every concept detail would be retained. 12. Renault Emblème
Renault presented Emblème as a demonstrator and a world premiere in Paris. A demonstrator is intended to show a technical or design direction; its stated capabilities should not be read as independently verified real-world performance or as a production-car specification. 13. Alpine A390_β
Alpine described the A390_β as a show car previewing a future sport fastback. That stated family link makes it a different kind of preview from a standalone design exercise, while still leaving the show car’s specific features short of confirmed production specifications. Alpine’s Paris release.
14. Alpine Alpenglow Hy6
Alpenglow Hy6 was a hydrogen prototype shown in an advanced version at Paris. It was not a wholly new 2024 concept: Alpine says the Alpenglow concept was first presented in 2022, making Hy6 the 2024 iteration. Its prototype status distinguishes it from the battery-EV proposals and plug-in hybrids elsewhere in this list. Alpine’s Paris release.

A CES concept at the intersection of EVs and software
15. Mercedes-Benz Concept CLA Class
The Concept CLA Class was on display at CES 2024, where coverage also described Mercedes’ adjacent EV and software direction. Keep those threads distinct: the vehicle concept is not itself confirmation of production timing, and broader software claims should not be treated as specifications for this show car. How to read the technology and production signals
The concepts span several pathways, and the labels are not interchangeable. The selection includes battery-electric proposals, two plug-in hybrid concepts, a purpose-built vehicle program, and a hydrogen prototype. A concept’s stated energy system identifies the direction being explored; it does not by itself establish availability, range, charging or refueling performance, or production readiness.
- Battery EV concepts: Honda’s Saloon, Space-Hub, and Ye GT; Nissan’s Epoch and Epic; and the Kia PV5 PBV concept. Their intended markets and body formats differ, so “EV” alone does not make them comparable products.
- Plug-in hybrids: Nissan’s Era and Evo. Nissan’s descriptions focus respectively on a second-living-space cabin and family-trip use, with driver-support and assistant features for the Evo.
- Hydrogen prototype: Alpine Alpenglow Hy6, a 2024 iteration of a concept first shown in 2022.
- Other concept, show-car, or demonstrator entries: The cited material identifies the propulsion system or production relationship for some entries but not others. Where it is not stated above, it should be treated as unknown rather than inferred.
The clearest stated production connection in this group is Honda’s plan, announced in 2024, for a North American 0 Series model based on the Saloon in 2026. Alpine called the A390_β a preview of a future sport fastback, while the rest of the cited descriptions do not establish a specific production model or timing. These announcements record what the manufacturers said at the time; they are not confirmation of later launches.
Why this is a selection, not a definitive ranking
“Game-changing” is an editorial judgment. No official 2024 ranking establishes these as the 15 most important concepts worldwide. They are selected because they communicate a distinct design direction, packaging or mobility idea, technology path, or market strategy, with show cars, prototypes, and demonstrators labeled as such. The list is also not exhaustive: a vehicle’s inclusion here does not imply that it outranks other 2024 concepts.
