The Tesla Cybertruck is a large electric pickup, technology demonstrator, and mobile power source in one. Its most important facts go beyond acceleration: the truck uses uncoated stainless-steel panels, steer-by-wire, rear-wheel steering, configuration-dependent towing and payload ratings, and optional Powershare home backup.

The Tesla Cybertruck is more than an electric pickup with a dramatic shape. It combines stainless-steel body panels, steer-by-wire, rear-wheel steering, strong towing and payload capability, onboard power outlets, and optional home-backup functionality. Those features also create ownership requirements that are easy to miss—especially around cleaning, configuration-specific ratings, towing, and Powershare installation.

Here are 15 useful facts about the Cybertruck, based primarily on Tesla’s current U.S. specifications and North American Owner’s Manual. Tesla can change specifications, equipment, and features through production updates or software, so verify the details for the vehicle and market you are considering.

1. Customer deliveries began in November 2023

Tesla held its first customer-delivery event at its headquarters in Austin, Texas, on November 30, 2023. That date is the Cybertruck’s public customer-delivery launch; it is not the date of the original unveiling or necessarily the beginning of full-scale production.

2. The body panels are stainless steel

Unlike most pickups, whose painted steel or aluminum panels are protected by layers of paint and clear coat, the Cybertruck uses stainless-steel exterior body panels. Tesla’s Owner’s Manual says the exterior has no clear coat. In practical terms, a scratch is in the stainless-steel panel itself rather than merely in a removable clear finish.

The metal is distinctive, but it is not maintenance-free. Tesla advises owners to remove corrosive contaminants promptly and to follow its specific hand-washing guidance. Road salt, brake dust, industrial fallout, bird droppings, and other contaminants should not be allowed to remain on the surface.

3. Tesla calls the material “HFS”

Tesla describes the Cybertruck’s exterior alloy as HFS, short for “Hard Freaking Stainless.” The company says it developed the stainless-steel alloy for impact resistance. That is Tesla’s description of its engineering objective, not the result of an independent durability test or a guarantee that the panels cannot be dented or scratched.

Tesla also warns that orange or brown marks may come from metallic contamination on the surface rather than from structural corrosion of the panel. The correct response is careful cleaning according to the Owner’s Manual—not abrasive polishing or an aggressive chemical treatment.

4. It uses steer-by-wire

The Cybertruck’s steering wheel is not mechanically connected to the front wheels by a conventional steering shaft. Instead, sensors in the steering column communicate electronically with steering racks. Tesla says the system uses redundant sensors and actuators intended to manage a detected system issue.

Steer-by-wire gives Tesla more freedom to vary steering response and packaging than a traditional mechanical connection. It also means steering-system warnings should be treated seriously. The Owner’s Manual, rather than a generic repair procedure for a conventional pickup, should guide what the driver does when a steering warning appears.

5. The rear wheels steer, too

Cybertruck has four-wheel steering: the rear wheels turn as well as the front wheels. Tesla says this helps reduce the truck’s turning radius. The North American Owner’s Manual lists an approximate curb-to-curb turning circle of 43.5 feet and 0.94 turns lock-to-lock.

That can make a large truck easier to maneuver in parking lots and tight work areas. Four-wheel steering does not make the Cybertruck small, however. Drivers still need to account for its width, mirrors, bed, blind spots, and the swing of a trailer.

6. Its low-voltage architecture is 48 volts

Tesla lists the Cybertruck’s vehicle voltage as 48 volts. This refers to the vehicle’s low-voltage electrical architecture and should not be confused with the much higher-voltage traction battery system that supplies the drive motors.

The change matters because modern vehicles contain many electrically powered systems, and a higher low-voltage architecture can support different approaches to wiring and electrical components. It does not mean the traction battery is a 48-volt battery, nor does it make the high-voltage system safe for owner servicing.

7. There are three current U.S. configurations

Tesla’s current U.S. product information lists Long Range, Premium All-Wheel Drive, and Cyberbeast configurations. They are not simply trim names attached to an identical truck. Depending on the version and equipment, range, acceleration, towing, payload, wheels, tires, weight, and ground clearance can differ.

That distinction is important whenever a Cybertruck specification is quoted. A number from the Cyberbeast should not automatically be presented as a number for every Cybertruck.

Selected Tesla-published Cybertruck figures for the current U.S. lineup
Specification Published figure Important qualification
EPA-estimated range Up to 325 miles Tesla lists 325 miles for Long Range and Premium All-Wheel Drive; Cyberbeast is listed at 320 miles.
0–60 mph As quick as 2.6 seconds Cyberbeast figure; Tesla notes rollout is subtracted. Long Range and Premium All-Wheel Drive are listed at 4.1 seconds.
Maximum towing Up to 11,000 pounds Premium All-Wheel Drive and Cyberbeast are listed at 11,000 pounds; Long Range is listed at 7,500 pounds.
Maximum payload 2,000–2,500 pounds Varies by configuration and tire combination; the vehicle’s GVWR and axle ratings remain the limits.

8. Some versions are rated for 325 miles

Tesla lists an EPA-estimated range of 325 miles for the Long Range and Premium All-Wheel Drive Cybertruck configurations. The Cyberbeast is listed at 320 miles. These are not promises that every owner will see those distances on every trip.

Speed, temperature, wind, hills, tire choice, wheel size, payload, driving style, and towing can all reduce range. A buyer who regularly tows or carries heavy equipment should plan around real-world energy use rather than treating the EPA estimate as a guaranteed travel distance.

9. Cyberbeast can reach 60 mph in 2.6 seconds

Tesla lists a 2.6-second zero-to-60-mph time for the Cyberbeast, with rollout subtracted from the measurement. That makes the high-performance version unusually quick for a full-size electric pickup.

The less expensive or less performance-focused configurations are still quick: Tesla lists 4.1 seconds for both Long Range and Premium All-Wheel Drive. The figures should be understood as manufacturer-published performance claims, and acceleration can vary with battery state of charge, temperature, tires, road surface, and other conditions.

  • EFFORTLESS INSTALLATION AND REMOVAL: This organizer is crafted for hassle-free use with a no-tool installation, fitting smoothly in the under screen storage area and removable in seconds for easy cleaning and reinstallation

10. Towing capacity depends on the version

The maximum towing rating is 7,500 pounds for Long Range and 11,000 pounds for Premium All-Wheel Drive and Cyberbeast, according to Tesla’s current Owner’s Manual. That is a substantial difference between configurations.

Towing capacity is also not the same as payload or tongue-weight capacity. The trailer, passengers, cargo, tongue weight, and accessories must all remain within the applicable limits. Tesla instructs drivers to enter trailer information and follow the company’s towing guidance. Before towing, check the specific truck’s certification information, tires, hitch equipment, trailer brakes, loading, and local legal requirements.

Owners considering Cybertruck towing accessories should verify the hitch rating, electrical compatibility, trailer weight, tire requirements, and fit for the exact configuration. A generic accessory listing is not proof that a component is appropriate for every Cybertruck.

11. Payload can reach 2,500 pounds—but not on every truck

Tesla’s manual lists payload figures from 2,000 to 2,500 pounds across the listed Cybertruck configurations and tire combinations. Payload includes more than cargo in the bed: occupants, luggage, tools, accessories, and trailer tongue weight all count toward the vehicle’s loading limits.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The manual warns that the truck must remain within its gross vehicle weight rating, or GVWR, and that neither axle rating may be exceeded. The correct payload figure is the one for the particular truck as equipped, not the highest number found in a general advertisement.

12. The bed floor is about six feet long

Tesla’s dimensions table lists a cargo-bed floor length of 71.84 inches and a floor width of 51.00 inches for the listed configurations. That makes the bed approximately six feet long at the floor, although usable space can vary depending on the tonneau cover, wheel wells, cargo position, and other equipment.

The truck also has a lockable motorized tonneau cover. Tesla advertises up to 120.7 cubic feet of total cargo volume, a figure that includes the bed and other cargo areas rather than representing the bed alone.

For owners adding Tesla Cybertruck accessories, check whether a product is designed for the current bed dimensions, tonneau-cover operation, power outlets, and specific model year or equipment package. Cargo dividers, organizers, liners, and covers can be useful, but an incompatible item can interfere with the motorized cover or reduce usable space.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

13. It can power tools and other devices

The Cybertruck can function as a mobile power source. Tesla describes five outlets, including 120-volt outlets in the cabin and bed and, on supported configurations, a 240-volt outlet in the bed. Tesla says the outlets together can provide up to 9.6 kilowatts for tools and devices.

Outlet availability and power capability are configuration-specific, so prospective owners should check the equipment list for the truck they are ordering. The output also has practical limits: users need appropriately rated cords, tools, adapters, and circuit protection, and should follow Tesla’s instructions for operating the outlets.

14. Powershare can provide home backup

Tesla says Powershare Home Backup can provide up to 11.5 kW and can power an average U.S. home for more than three days, based on an assumed household use of 30 kWh per day. The result is an estimate, not a guaranteed duration. Actual runtime depends on household consumption, the vehicle’s state of charge, solar equipment, weather, loads, and other conditions.

Home backup is not a matter of simply plugging the Cybertruck into a wall outlet. Tesla requires compatible installed equipment, and some Powershare functions depend on supported firmware, mobile-app versions, and regions. Buyers should confirm eligibility and installation requirements with Tesla and a qualified electrician before purchasing equipment or designing a backup system.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Products such as a Tesla Mobile Connector or Powershare Outlet Adapter may be relevant to particular vehicle-to-load use cases, but neither should be presented as a complete plug-and-play home-backup solution. Compatibility, electrical ratings, installation, and regional support must be confirmed first.

15. Stainless-steel care is different from ordinary car washing

Tesla does not recommend routine automatic-car-wash use for the Cybertruck. The company advises hand washing with mild, pH-neutral soap, clean microfiber cloths, and thorough drying.

Tesla specifically warns against acidic, highly alkaline, caustic, abrasive, or otherwise unsuitable cleaning products. Improper cleaning damage may not be covered by the vehicle warranty. Do not assume that a product marketed for painted automotive finishes is suitable for the Cybertruck’s uncoated stainless-steel exterior.

A practical Cybertruck cleaning checklist

  • Remove salt, metallic dust, bird droppings, and other contaminants promptly.
  • Use mild, pH-neutral soap and clean water.
  • Use clean microfiber detailing towels rather than abrasive pads or harsh brushes.
  • Rinse thoroughly and dry the panels to reduce water spotting and residue.
  • Do not use acidic, strongly alkaline, caustic, or abrasive products unless Tesla specifically approves them for the intended surface.
  • Follow the current Owner’s Manual if its instructions differ from generic detailing advice.

General supplies such as microfiber detailing towels and pH-neutral car shampoo are logical choices to investigate, but a marketplace product should not be treated as Tesla-approved simply because it is advertised for vehicles.

Ownership details buyers should not overlook

Warranty coverage

Tesla’s current Cybertruck specifications list a basic vehicle warranty of four years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. The battery and drive-unit warranty is listed as eight years or 150,000 miles. Tesla says the warranty terms supplied with the vehicle are authoritative, so buyers should review the documents for the applicable market and vehicle.

DIY maintenance is limited

Tesla permits certain owner maintenance procedures, including replacing a wiper blade and the HEPA filter. That does not make the Cybertruck a suitable vehicle for unrestricted home repair. Tesla says Service Mode is intended for qualified automotive professionals and warns that improper use can cause damage, loss of vehicle operation, or personal injury.

If you are looking for a Tesla Cybertruck wiper blade or Tesla Cybertruck HEPA filter, verify the exact part number, model-year applicability, configuration, and seller information before ordering. Follow Tesla’s procedure rather than relying on a generic video or a part listing that merely uses the word “Cybertruck.”

Collision repairs need the right parts and procedures

Tesla recommends genuine Tesla parts or Tesla-approved body repair after a collision. The company warns that non-original or salvaged parts, and damage caused by them, may not be covered by warranty. This is especially important for a vehicle with electronic steering, complex electrical systems, sensors, and unusual body construction.

What these facts add up to

The Cybertruck’s defining feature is not just its 2.6-second acceleration. It is the combination of a large electric pickup, a stainless-steel exterior, steer-by-wire and rear-wheel steering, useful towing and payload ratings, a powered cargo bed, and the ability to supply electricity away from home or support a compatible home-backup installation.

The trade-off is that “Cybertruck” is not one uniform specification. Long Range, Premium All-Wheel Drive, and Cyberbeast have different published capabilities, and equipment can affect the numbers further. Before buying, towing, loading, washing, or planning emergency power, check the current Tesla product page and the Owner’s Manual for the exact configuration, tires, equipment, software, and region.

Quick buyer checklist

  • Choose the configuration based on the range, towing, payload, and performance you actually need.
  • Confirm the vehicle-specific payload and axle ratings instead of using a generic maximum.
  • Check trailer weight, tongue weight, brakes, hitch equipment, and tire requirements before towing.
  • Plan for hand washing and stainless-steel-safe cleaning products.
  • Confirm which bed outlets and power levels are included on the truck you are considering.
  • For Powershare Home Backup, verify region, firmware, compatible equipment, and professional installation requirements.
  • Use Tesla’s current manual for warnings, maintenance procedures, and operating limits.

Frequently Asked Questions

When did the Tesla Cybertruck enter customer delivery?

Tesla began customer deliveries with an event at its Austin, Texas, headquarters on November 30, 2023. That was the customer-delivery launch, not the original unveiling.

How far can a Cybertruck go on one charge?

Tesla’s current U.S. information lists up to 325 miles for Long Range and Premium All-Wheel Drive configurations. Cyberbeast is listed at 320 miles. Real-world range varies with speed, weather, tires, payload, towing, terrain, and driving conditions.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What is the fastest Cybertruck?

Cyberbeast is listed at 2.6 seconds from zero to 60 mph, with rollout subtracted. Tesla lists 4.1 seconds for both Long Range and Premium All-Wheel Drive.

How much can the Tesla Cybertruck tow?

Long Range is listed at 7,500 pounds. Premium All-Wheel Drive and Cyberbeast are listed at 11,000 pounds. The correct rating depends on configuration and must be considered alongside payload, tongue weight, hitch, tires, and trailer requirements.

Can a Cybertruck power an entire house?

No. Tesla says Powershare Home Backup requires compatible installed equipment, and availability can depend on firmware, app versions, and region. It is not simply a plug-in purchase.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The Tesla Cybertruck is an unusually capable and technically distinctive electric pickup, but its advertised figures are configuration-dependent. Its stainless-steel exterior, electronic steering, towing limits, payload ratings, cleaning requirements, and Powershare installation conditions matter just as much as its headline acceleration.
