2. 2026 Honda Prelude Hybrid

Honda’s two-door Prelude returns as a hybrid hatchback rather than a traditional gasoline sports coupe. Its two-motor hybrid system produces 200 horsepower, and Honda lists EPA ratings of 46 mpg city and 41 mpg highway. Pricing starts at $42,000.

The more interesting part is the chassis. The Prelude uses Civic Type R-derived hardware, adaptive dampers, four-piston Brembo front brakes, and Honda’s S+ Shift system, which simulates gear changes to give the hybrid powertrain a more familiar performance-car response.

Honda says the Prelude returns in fall 2026. It may be worth waiting for if you want a relatively efficient daily driver but still care about steering, braking, and body control. It is less compelling if rear-seat space or maximum cargo capacity is a priority.

3. 2026 Nissan LEAF

The redesigned LEAF addresses two of the outgoing model’s biggest limitations. Instead of being a small hatchback, the 2026 LEAF becomes a crossover-style liftback with more conventional SUV packaging. It also switches to a North American Charging Standard, or NACS, port.

5. 2026 Toyota Highlander BEV

Toyota’s battery-electric Highlander is scheduled to begin sales in North America in late 2026. It is intended to give Toyota customers a three-row EV option, rather than forcing them to choose between the gasoline or hybrid Highlander and a different brand’s electric SUV.

Toyota has announced development targets of up to 320 miles of range for the all-wheel-drive version. The company has also listed 76.96-kWh and 95.82-kWh battery capacities, plus front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.

Those figures are not final EPA-certified specifications. The Highlander BEV is worth waiting for if you need Toyota’s dealer network, three rows, and an electric powertrain, but buyers should not make a purchase decision based solely on the current range or battery targets.

6. 2026 Rivian R2

The Rivian R2 is a midsize electric SUV designed to bring the company’s outdoors-oriented styling and software into a smaller, more accessible vehicle than the R1S. The Performance version is scheduled to launch in spring 2026.

7. Slate Truck

Slate’s first vehicle is a two-door electric pickup designed to be changed with accessories. Buyers can configure it as a basic truck and add equipment intended to give it an SUV-like function. The company lists a $24,950 starting price, plus a $1,450 destination charge.

The unusual part is the low-content approach. The Slate does not come with a standard infotainment touchscreen and emphasizes physical controls and customer-selected accessories. That could appeal to drivers who dislike increasingly complicated interiors, though it also means buyers need to be realistic about what is and is not included in the base price.

First deliveries are planned for late 2026, with preorders open and demonstration drives expected later in the year. This could be an important model for Mercedes because it brings the company’s next EV generation below its larger and more expensive electric vehicles. However, Mercedes-Benz USA has not published a complete U.S. price, range figure, or detailed delivery schedule on its future-vehicle page.

That makes the CLA a vehicle to watch rather than one to reserve based on European specifications. Range, charging performance, equipment, and pricing can differ between markets, so overseas figures should not be treated as U.S. specifications.

9. 2027 BMW iX3 arriving in 2026

The BMW iX3 belongs on a calendar-year 2026 list, but it is officially a 2027 model-year vehicle. BMW says it will enter the U.S. market on September 25, 2026, with a base price of $61,500 before the $1,350 destination charge.

BMW estimates up to 434 miles of EPA-rated range for the iX3 50 xDrive. It is the first series-production vehicle based on the company’s Neue Klasse architecture and brings an 800-volt electrical system, up to 400-kW DC charging capability, and the Panoramic iDrive interface.

Kia has confirmed the EV3 for the United States as a 2027 model-year vehicle, with the launch expected in late 2026.
