The most useful car gadgets solve a specific problem: keeping tires properly inflated, helping you handle a breakdown, improving visibility, or making a long commute more comfortable. This guide separates emergency gear from features your vehicle may already have and convenience accessories. None replaces attentive driving or proper vehicle maintenance.
Safety and preparedness gadgets to keep in your car
These first six items can help you check a problem, prepare for a roadside stop, or stay equipped while waiting for help. Match equipment to your vehicle and learn how to use it before an emergency.
1. Portable tire inflator with a pressure gauge
A portable inflator can add air to a tire that is low. Choose one compatible with your vehicle and tires, with a readable pressure display, a suitable power source, enough cord and hose reach, and a valve connection that fits. Auto shutoff can help prevent overinflation; check the instructions for heat limits and whether a separate gauge is included.
Inflation does not diagnose damage or make an unsafe tire safe. NHTSA recommends checking pressure at least monthly when tires are cold and following the vehicle manufacturer’s recommended pressure—not the maximum printed on the tire. A tire-pressure monitoring system (TPMS) is a warning, not a substitute for regular checks: NHTSA’s tire safety guidance.

2. Portable jump starter
A battery-based jump starter can help restart a vehicle with a discharged battery without requiring another car. Before buying, check the manufacturer’s vehicle-compatibility guidance, stated starting-current ratings, connection protections, and how often the unit needs recharging. Keep it charged according to its instructions, and follow the vehicle and starter manuals for connection and use.
3. Jumper cables
Cables are a useful alternative or backup to a standalone starter, but they require an appropriate assisting vehicle and correct connection procedure. Check cable length and the instructions for both vehicles. NHTSA includes jumper cables in its recommended roadside kit list: roadside emergency kit guidance.
4. Flashlight
A flashlight makes it easier to see during a nighttime breakdown or while looking for equipment. Store it where you can reach it safely, and check batteries or charge periodically. Use it from a safe location; do not stand in traffic to inspect a vehicle.
5. First-aid kit
A compact first-aid kit can provide basic supplies for minor injuries while you wait for help. Check its contents and expiration dates, and add personal necessities such as prescribed medicines separately. It is not a replacement for emergency medical care.

6. Emergency blanket
An emergency blanket takes little storage space and can provide a layer of warmth if you are stranded in cold conditions. NHTSA includes emergency blankets among its suggested roadside-kit items. Pair it with water and other supplies appropriate to your route and weather.
Vehicle safety features that may already be installed
Before buying an add-on, check your owner’s manual and the equipment fitted to your vehicle. A feature can assist with a particular task without taking responsibility for driving away from you.
7. Tire-pressure monitoring system (TPMS)
Many vehicles have a TPMS warning light that alerts the driver when a tire is significantly underinflated. It may not tell you which tire needs attention in every vehicle, and it does not replace checking pressure with a gauge. Use the vehicle placard or manual for the recommended pressure and check tires when cold.
8. Backup camera
A backup camera helps show the area behind the vehicle while reversing, but its field of view is limited. NHTSA warns: “While backup cameras are helpful, they have limitations; kids, pets, and objects can still be in your path but out of the camera’s view.” Check around the vehicle and use mirrors as well as the display: NHTSA’s summer driving and road-trip tips.

- 💖💖【Important Note】Due to soaring memory chip costs, many brands have eliminated memory cards entirely, requiring a separate purchase. However, to save you the hassle of buying extra accessories, we are resisting cost pressures without raising our dashcam's price. Starting June 26, 2026, this camera will include a 32GB memory card (previously 64GB) so you can still use it out of the box. For extended storage, we highly recommend purchasing a Class 10, U3, and V30 (or higher) memory card.

9. Driver-assistance features
Depending on the vehicle, installed systems may warn about hazards or intervene in certain situations. Their names, capabilities, and limits vary, so consult the owner’s manual rather than assuming a feature works like another vehicle’s system. NHTSA’s rule is direct: “You, as the driver, are responsible for driving the vehicle. All vehicle features are assistive and do not operate the vehicle. You must steer, brake, and accelerate.” See NHTSA’s driver-assistance overview.

These accessories address comfort or convenience, not crash prevention. Install them so they do not obstruct your view, interfere with airbags or pedals, or become unsecured objects.
10. Dash camera
A dash camera records video from the vehicle; recording is different from a system that actively warns or intervenes to avoid a crash. Check how it mounts, where it draws power, how it stores footage, and whether its position leaves your view unobstructed. A camera is not a reason to handle or adjust a device while driving.
11. Secure phone mount with wireless charging
A mount can keep a phone in a consistent location and a wireless charging pad can reduce cable clutter. Check that the mount holds securely, fits your phone, and does not block sightlines or controls. Set navigation before moving and do not interact with the phone while driving; NHTSA identifies distracted driving as a safety concern in its roadside safety guidance.

- 2.5K Front + 1080P Rear Recording: S60 records 25601440P front video and 1080P rear video to help capture what happens ahead of and behind your car. The front 170 wide-angle lens helps cover more of the road during daily drives or unexpected events
- WDR Night Vision: The starlight night vision sensor and 6-layer glass lens help improve video clarity in low-light conditions. WDR helps balance bright headlights and darker areas, making footage easier to review at night, in tunnels, parking lots, and other changing light conditions
- Loop Recording & G-Sensor Lock: Loop recording replaces older unprotected clips when the card is full. SD card is not included, and the dash cam supports cards up to 256GB. If a sudden impact, hard braking, or collision is detected, the G-sensor locks the current clip to help protect important footage
- Optional 24-Hour Parking Monitor: S60 supports a 24-hour parking monitor with time-lapse recording. This feature requires a compatible Type-C hardwire kit, not included
- 2" IPS Screen & 360 Suction Mount: The 2" IPS screen lets you check the camera view and adjust basic settings directly on the device. The 360 suction mount makes it easier to adjust the camera angle and remove or reinstall the unit
12. Windshield sun shade
A sun shade can block direct sunlight from the parked car’s interior. Choose one that fits the windshield and remove it before driving; do not leave it in a position that blocks visibility. Comfort effects depend on the vehicle, fit, and conditions, so avoid treating a shade as a guaranteed temperature-control solution.
13. Car fan
A portable fan may provide airflow for a passenger or driver who prefers it, but it is not a replacement for the vehicle’s climate controls. Secure it away from airbags, pedals, and the driver’s view, and route its power cable so it cannot tangle or become a distraction.
14. Seat cushion or lumbar cushion
A cushion may suit a particular driver’s seating preference on a commute. Try it while parked and confirm it does not change your ability to reach the pedals, see over the dashboard, or sit in the position intended by the vehicle’s restraint system. Comfort is personal; no single cushion is right for every seat or driver.
15. Roadside emergency kit
A ready-made kit can gather useful supplies in one place, but contents vary. Check the inventory rather than relying on the label. NHTSA’s suggested items include a charged phone and charger, first-aid kit, flashlight, flares and a white flag, jumper cables, tire-pressure gauge, jack and ground mat, gloves, basic tools, water, food, medicines, washer fluid, maps, and emergency blankets. Add only what you can store securely and use safely.

- Start with your vehicle: Check the owner’s manual, tire placard, installed features, and accessory compatibility before buying.
- Prioritize likely needs: A pressure gauge and roadside supplies can be more useful than an accessory with a broad but unverified promise.
- Check operation and upkeep: Know how to use equipment, keep batteries charged, and replace expired or depleted supplies.
- Secure every accessory: Keep devices out of airbag deployment areas, away from pedals, and clear of the driver’s sightlines.
- Keep attention on driving: Configure phones and accessories before departure; do not operate them while moving.
NHTSA reported 511 motor-vehicle traffic fatalities in tire-related crashes in 2024: NHTSA’s 2024 traffic-crash fatality estimates. That figure is a reason to take tire condition seriously, not evidence that any particular gadget prevents a crash.
