The original 2025–2026 window has moved on: the 2025 Tesla Model Y redesign and Dodge Charger Daytona are already production vehicles, while several supposed 2025 arrivals were ordinary updates or unsupported forecasts. The genuinely interesting choices now are the redesigned 2026 Toyota RAV4, battery-electric 2026 Lexus ES, 2026 Rivian R2, third-generation Nissan Leaf, and a small group of high-performance EVs.
Below is an updated guide to 14 vehicles connected to the original list. “Worth waiting for” depends on what you need, but each entry identifies what is confirmed, what remains uncertain, and who should pay attention.

1. 2026 Honda Prelude
Honda has confirmed the production 2026 Prelude and its return to North America. This is not simply a Civic with a different name: it is a hybrid sports coupe intended to bring some driver-focused character back to Honda’s range.
Honda has not provided final U.S. pricing or a precise nationwide dealer-arrival schedule in the available announcement material. That makes the Prelude more compelling as a car to monitor than one to reserve blindly. Buyers who want a relatively compact coupe with hybrid efficiency should wait for trim details, cargo measurements, and a test drive.

2. 2026 Toyota RAV4
The sixth-generation RAV4 is one of the clearest reasons to wait. Toyota is dropping the conventional gasoline-only version from the 2026 U.S. lineup; every version uses either a hybrid or plug-in-hybrid powertrain.
Hybrid grades are available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive where specified, while plug-in-hybrid versions use standard AWD. Toyota rates the plug-in model at up to 324 net combined horsepower and estimates up to 52 miles of electric range, depending on grade. The new RAV4 also introduces Toyota’s Arene software platform, Toyota Safety Sense 4.0, and an updated Toyota Audio Multimedia system.
It is worth waiting for if you want a practical compact SUV but do not need a gasoline-only option. The key details to compare at purchase time are trim-level pricing, charging equipment, and the real-world effect of the larger software and driver-assistance changes.

3. 2026 Lexus ES
The 2026 Lexus ES is a full redesign rather than a mild equipment refresh. More importantly, the ES range adds battery-electric models: the front-wheel-drive ES 350e and all-wheel-drive ES 500e.
Lexus has not made every interior feature universal across the lineup, so claims about specific leather grades, seat functions, or speaker counts should be checked against the exact trim. The ES is the strongest candidate here for buyers who want a quiet, comfort-oriented sedan or liftback-style luxury car and are willing to consider an EV without moving to an SUV.
4. 2027 BMW iX3 arriving in 2026
This vehicle needs a date correction. It is the 2027 BMW iX3, not a 2026 model-year vehicle, although BMW schedules its U.S. launch for September 2026. The U.S. launch model is the iX3 50 xDrive, BMW’s first series-production vehicle based on the Neue Klasse architecture.
BMW lists a $61,500 base MSRP, plus a $1,350 destination and handling charge. Its headline figures are up to 434 miles of EPA-estimated range and DC charging at up to 400 kW. Those numbers make the iX3 especially relevant to road-trip drivers who want an electric luxury SUV but have avoided current models because of range or charging limitations.

5. 2026 Hyundai IONIQ 6 N
The IONIQ 6 N turns Hyundai’s streamlined electric sedan into a limited-quantity performance car. Hyundai lists 601 horsepower normally and up to 641 hp with N Grin Boost, which operates for approximately 10 seconds. With launch control and boost engaged, Hyundai estimates 0–60 mph in about 3.2 seconds.
Final EPA range had not been published in the available specifications, so older projected figures should not be treated as official. This is a car to wait for if acceleration, track-oriented hardware, and unusual styling matter more than maximum range or rear-seat convenience. Its limited U.S. allocation may matter more than its on-paper performance.
6. 2026 Genesis GV60 Magma
The GV60 Magma is Genesis’s first high-performance production model under the Magma brand. Genesis lists 601 hp in normal operation and 641 hp in Boost Mode, with boosted output available for approximately 15 seconds. Peak torque rises from 740 Nm to 790 Nm in Boost Mode, and the stated top speed is 264 km/h, or roughly 164 mph.
North American introduction is planned for 2026, but U.S. pricing and EPA range should wait for an official release. The GV60 Magma will appeal to buyers who want a compact luxury EV with much more visual and mechanical attitude than a standard GV60. It is less suitable for anyone shopping primarily on charging range, price, or proven long-term ownership data.
7. 2026 Rivian R2
Rivian’s R2 is a smaller SUV designed to bring the brand below the larger R1S in size and price. Rivian has scheduled it for spring 2026, and reservations are available through the company.
The R2 is potentially one of the most important vehicles on this list because a genuinely compact Rivian could combine an outdoors-oriented design with easier urban parking and a lower purchase price than the R1S. Rivian has discussed the R3, R3X, R4, and R5, but none should be treated as a 2026 vehicle based on the confirmed information. Wait for final battery, range, pricing, and production details before comparing it with established compact SUVs.
8. 2026 Nissan Leaf
The third-generation Leaf changes the formula substantially. Instead of the previous hatchback shape, the 2026 Leaf adopts a crossover-like body and uses Nissan’s CMF-EV platform. Nissan cites a U.S.-market drag coefficient of 0.26.

- [AT-A-GLANCE CHARGING COMMAND: TOTAL CONTROL, INSTANTLY] While most ev chargers solutions confine vital data to in-car screens, the Raylix tesla charger breaks free with its enhanced TFT color display. This Raylix-exclusive feature delivers crystal-clear, real-time updates—voltage, current, power load, AND critical charging temperature—directly on the unit. Just one glance gives you complete charging insight. It’s not just information; it's the empowering peace of mind and satisfying control that transforms every charge into a masterfully managed experience.
The model is confirmed for 2026, but range and trim-specific U.S. pricing should be taken from Nissan’s current configurator rather than recycled projections. Earlier claims of more than 300 miles may not apply to every version. The Leaf is worth waiting for if you want a mainstream EV with a more conventional SUV-like seating position and do not need the performance or luxury positioning of the cars above.
9. 2026 Kia EV3
The Kia EV3 is a real production compact EV, but its U.S. timing is less firm than the launch status of the RAV4 or IONIQ 9. Current reporting points to a late-2026 arrival rather than a guaranteed nationwide release date.
Reports have circulated about approximately $35,000 pricing and around 320 miles of range. Those figures should remain estimates until Kia publishes U.S. specifications. European WLTP range is not interchangeable with U.S. EPA range, so buyers should wait for the American configurator before comparing the EV3 with the Leaf, Chevrolet Equinox EV, or Tesla Model Y.
10. 2026 Jeep Recon
Jeep has presented the Recon as an electric off-road SUV for the 2026 model year. Its defining features include removable doors and roof panels, preserving some of the open-air character associated with the Wrangler.
Exact U.S. pricing, range, horsepower, and dealer timing remain fluid. That uncertainty is important: an electric off-roader can be excellent on trails but less convenient for long-distance towing or remote travel, where charging infrastructure may be sparse. Wait for production specifications if the Recon’s removable panels and Jeep trail capability are priorities.

11. 2026 Hyundai Palisade
The 2026 Palisade is an all-new model, not an electric replacement for the existing SUV. Hyundai lists six- and seven-passenger configurations, available second-row captain’s chairs, and a redesigned interior layout.
It belongs on a next-generation list because it addresses the needs of families who still want a large, conventional three-row SUV. Buyers should compare its final powertrain, fuel economy, cargo space behind the third row, and towing specifications with the Kia Telluride and redesigned rivals. Its main advantage may be packaging rather than novelty.

12. 2026 Hyundai IONIQ 9
The IONIQ 9 is Hyundai’s all-new three-row electric SUV. It should not be confused with the performance-focused IONIQ 6 N: the IONIQ 9 is designed for passenger and cargo duty, with the extra seating capacity that many EVs still lack.
Final U.S. range, trim equipment, and pricing should be checked against Hyundai’s production specifications. It is worth waiting for if you need three rows and want to move from a gasoline SUV to an EV, but charging access at home or work remains essential for making that switch convenient.

The redesigned Model Y is no longer an upcoming car. Tesla began North American deliveries in March 2025, and the company describes it as a redesigned Model Y rather than an entirely new generation.
Tesla claims up to 5% more range with the same battery energy, reduced road and wind noise, updated connectivity, and a rear touchscreen that is included or available depending on configuration. The practical question is not whether to wait for its launch; it is whether the revised vehicle’s price, controls, ride quality, and service experience work for you now.

The new Charger is also already in production. The Daytona name identifies the electric version, while Dodge has announced combustion-powered Charger variants as well. That makes the new Charger unusual: shoppers can consider the new design without being forced into a single powertrain choice.
Performance equipment varies by model and trim. Do not assume that every Charger includes identical PowerShot functionality or produces the same output. Compare the exact battery or engine, body style, drive system, and performance package before treating a particular Charger as the equivalent of another.

What to verify before placing a deposit
- U.S. price and destination charge: international pricing is not a reliable substitute.
- EPA range: WLTP figures from Europe are generally higher and cannot be used as U.S. EPA estimates.
- Actual arrival date: a model-year announcement does not guarantee that every dealer will have inventory immediately.
- Trim-specific equipment: horsepower, all-wheel drive, charging speed, seats, and driver-assistance features can vary significantly.
- Crash-test results and reliability: these may not exist when reservations open.
- Charging and service: check home-charging compatibility, public charging access, and the manufacturer’s local service coverage.
FAQ
Which cars on this list are genuinely next-generation models?
The 2026 Toyota RAV4, 2026 Nissan Leaf, 2026 Lexus ES, 2026 Hyundai Palisade, and 2027 BMW iX3 are among the clearest full redesigns or new-generation vehicles. The 2026 Honda Prelude, Rivian R2, IONIQ 6 N, GV60 Magma, IONIQ 9, EV3, and Jeep Recon are new model additions rather than replacements for an existing vehicle in the same way.
Are the Tesla Model Y and Dodge Charger Daytona still coming?
No. Both were already launched in 2025. The Model Y is a redesign of Tesla’s existing SUV, while the Charger Daytona is the electric version of the new Charger family.
Which upcoming vehicle has the longest confirmed range?
BMW lists up to 434 miles of EPA-estimated range for the U.S.-market 2027 BMW iX3 50 xDrive. Final results and equipment can vary, so compare the official window sticker and trim specifications when it arrives.
Should I reserve one of these cars before final specifications are published?
Only if you understand the risk. Reservations can secure an early place in line, but they do not guarantee final pricing, range, delivery timing, or equipment. For most buyers, waiting for EPA figures, dealer availability, test drives, and early reliability reports is safer.
The Bottom Line
The strongest confirmed reasons to wait are the redesigned 2026 Toyota RAV4, the electric-capable 2026 Lexus ES, the long-range 2027 BMW iX3 arriving in 2026, the compact Rivian R2, and the crossover-shaped third-generation Nissan Leaf. The IONIQ 6 N and GV60 Magma are the standouts for performance, while the IONIQ 9 and Palisade target three-row families.
Treat the Kia EV3 and Jeep Recon more cautiously because U.S. timing and final specifications remain unsettled. And if you are considering the Model Y redesign or new Charger, shop them as current vehicles—not as cars that still need to arrive.
