For most Galaxy S23 owners, a universal clamp mount is the safest choice. It holds the S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra without a magnetic case, ring, or metal plate and is usually the better option for thick cases and the heavier Ultra.
Magnetic Qi2 and MagSafe-style mounts are more convenient, but an uncovered Galaxy S23 will not magnetically attach to them. You generally need a magnetic Galaxy case or an adhesive magnetic ring. Samsung lists the S23 series as compatible with Qi wireless charging and Fast Wireless Charging 2.0, but that does not mean the phones have built-in MagSafe alignment magnets. Before buying: Qi charging is not MagSafe attachment
The Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra support Qi wireless charging. They do not have the built-in MagSafe-style magnetic ring found in phones designed for magnetic alignment. Therefore, a product labeled MagSafe-compatible may charge or hold an S23 only after you add the necessary hardware.

- Qi2 charger: Can charge a compatible Qi device, but Qi compatibility alone does not provide magnetic attachment or guarantee native Qi2 behavior.
A metal plate can be convenient for a non-charging magnetic mount, but placing it over the charging area may interfere with wireless charging, NFC, S Pen-related accessories, or Wireless PowerShare. A properly positioned magnetic ring is generally the better choice for a wireless charging mount, although case thickness, ring placement, charger geometry, and Android compatibility still matter.

The 5-in-1 format is attractive when one vehicle has more than one usable mounting position. It avoids a clamp around the phone, but only after the S23 has compatible magnetic hardware.
S23 compatibility: Add a magnetic ring, suitable metal plate, or magnetic case. S23 Ultra caveat: Confirm magnetic holding strength with the Ultra and its case; a thick wallet or rugged case is a poor pairing. A universal clamp system is easier to share between phones than a magnetic case-specific mount. It is also a sensible option when one vehicle uses a vent and another needs a dashboard or alternative installation.

Choose by mounting location
Dashboard
A dashboard mount offers a useful compromise between visibility and accessibility. It avoids vent airflow and can be steadier than a vent mount, but adhesive pads may not bond well to textured, soft-touch, leather, or dusty surfaces. Suction and adhesive materials can also lose grip in high heat. Keep the arm short and do not place the phone where it blocks instruments, controls, cameras, or the road view.
Windshield
Windshield mounts offer positioning freedom, but the phone can obstruct the driver’s view. Placement rules vary by jurisdiction, so check local law before installing one. A dashboard or CD-slot mount is often the simpler choice if visibility is a concern.
Air vent
Vent mounts are compact and easy to install, but they can block airflow, expose the phone to extreme temperatures, and stress weak or movable slats. The S23 Ultra in a rugged case creates more leverage than the base S23. If the slat bends or the mount wobbles by hand, choose another location.
CD slot
An unused CD slot can provide a central, adhesive-free position. It is unavailable in newer cars without CD players and may interfere with stereo controls or disc access. The iOttie CD Slot model is the clearest fit for this use case.
Cup holder
Cup-holder mounts can be stable and accommodate large phones, including the Ultra, but they place navigation low. That may force the driver to look farther from the road, so use this position only when it remains safely visible and accessible.
Display or back-of-screen
These mounts suit vehicles with tablet-style infotainment displays, but the clamp must fit the screen’s thickness and must not block controls, cameras, vents, or visibility. Scosche’s catalog illustrates the range of vent, dashboard, window, display, and CD-related formats.
Clamp versus magnetic: which should you buy?
Choose a clamp if you have no magnetic case, use a thick rugged case, switch between phones, or own an S23 Ultra. A clamp also avoids putting a metal plate over the phone’s charging coil.
Choose magnetic if you value quick one-handed removal and already use a case designed for the mount’s magnetic pattern. A magnetic ring adapter can retrofit an existing case, but alignment and adhesive durability are your responsibility.
Choose a metal plate only when a conventional magnetic mount is more important than wireless charging. Do not assume a plate will preserve Qi charging, NFC, S Pen accessories, or Wireless PowerShare.
Wireless charging, speed, and heat
Samsung lists Fast Wireless Charging 2.0 for the S23 series. The models do not have identical wired charging limits: Samsung materials list 25W wired charging for the S23 and 45W for the S23+ and S23 Ultra. A third-party charger’s advertised 15W or 25W is its maximum output, not a guarantee of what the phone will draw.
Navigation, sunlight, and wireless charging can generate heat at the same time. The phone may slow charging or stop charging temporarily to protect itself. A USB-C cable connected to a suitable vehicle adapter is often more reliable for long trips, hot climates, or heavy navigation use.
Wireless charging through a normal case usually works when the case is reasonably thin and contains no incompatible metal or cards. Wallet cases, plates, thick rugged cases, camera bumps, and poorly aligned magnetic rings can cause slow charging or repeated connect/disconnect behavior. Samsung identifies incorrect positioning and incompatible accessories, covers, chargers, or cables as possible causes of charging problems; consult its charging support page and PowerShare and accessory guidance.

The Ultra’s case, camera bump, wallet contents, and any ring or plate add to the mounting challenge. Official model specifications are available for the S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra.
- Check the mount’s maximum phone weight and case thickness.
- Confirm clamp width or magnetic compatibility.
- Test portrait and landscape orientation.
- Make sure the camera bump does not make the phone rock.
- Keep arms short to reduce droop on rough roads.
- Use a dashboard, CD-slot, or cup-holder mount if the vent slats flex.
What to verify before checkout
- Exact model: Identify whether the listing supports the S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra, not merely an iPhone or another Galaxy device.
- Case clearance: Measure the case, including raised edges and accessories.
- Attachment: Determine whether the product clamps, uses a metal plate, needs a magnetic ring, or uses a proprietary case.
- Vehicle fit: Inspect vent slats, dashboard texture, CD-slot depth, cup-holder diameter, or display thickness.

Failure modes and fixes
The magnetic mount drops the phone
Common causes include no magnetic case or ring, a ring that is too high or low, a thick case, a rugged or wallet case, landscape leverage, or a vibrating vent. Use a case specifically labeled for the S23, reposition or replace the ring, remove wallet contents, shorten the mount arm, or switch to a clamp or CD-slot mount.
Wireless charging starts and stops
Center the phone’s coil, remove metal cards or plates, check the case thickness, and confirm that the vehicle adapter and cable supply the required power. If the phone is hot, let it cool and reduce direct sunlight or airflow extremes. Samsung’s charging troubleshooting guidance specifically points to positioning and incompatible accessories or covers.
The vent feels damaged or weak
A heavy Ultra and rugged case can overload a thin or movable slat. Move the mount closer to the vent pivot, if appropriate for that design, or replace it with a dashboard, CD-slot, or cup-holder model. Do not keep using a vent that bends under the phone’s weight.

Dust, oil, textured vinyl, leather, heat, repeated repositioning, and a long arm can defeat adhesive. Clean the surface as directed by the manufacturer, shorten the arm, allow the pad to set, or use suction, vent, CD-slot, or cup-holder mounting instead.
The charger does not reach its advertised speed
Treat 15W, 25W, and similar figures as maximum charger output. Actual speed depends on the phone model, alignment, case, cable, adapter, temperature, battery state, and navigation use. Qi2 does not automatically make the S23 a native magnetic Qi2 phone.
