The 10th-generation Honda Civic Si covers U.S. 2017–2020 sedan and coupe models. Its defining combination is a 205-hp turbocharged engine, six-speed manual transmission and helical limited-slip differential. It can make sense as a practical enthusiast car, but “budget-friendly” depends on the specific car’s condition and your local used market—not a guaranteed price advantage.

What is the 10th-gen Civic Si?

Honda’s generation timeline identifies the 2017–2020 model years as the 10th-generation Civic Si. The 2017 model marked the Si’s first factory-turbocharged engine: a 1.5-liter four-cylinder (L15B7) rated at 205 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque. Peak torque spans 2,100–5,000 rpm, according to Honda’s 2017 powertrain information.

Every Si in this generation pairs the engine with a six-speed manual, a helical limited-slip differential and adjustable dampers with Normal and Sport modes. That package—not just the horsepower figure—is the car’s core appeal: useful turbo torque, driver involvement and front-wheel-drive traction hardware in one factory-built compact.

What changed from 2017 to 2020?

Model year Changes documented by Honda

How much horsepower does a 10th-gen Civic Si have?

Honda rates the 1.5-liter turbo engine at 205 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque. The torque peak extends from 2,100 to 5,000 rpm. These are Honda’s factory figures, not independent test results; the official 2017 powertrain page lists the specifications.

Is a 10th-gen Civic Si a good daily driver?

It can suit buyers who want a manual-transmission performance car that retains practical compact-car features. Honda’s 2020 Civic Si Sedan Feature Guide lists Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Honda Sensing, seating for five, a 60/40 split-folding rear seatback and interior storage. That guide applies specifically to the 2020 sedan; check the equipment for the precise year and body style you are considering.

  • Brand new box. Detailed exterior. Real rubber tires. True-to-scale detail. Officially licensed product. Does not have any openings. Comes in a plastic display showcase. Manufacturer's original unopened packaging. Made of diecast metal with some plastic parts. Dimensions approximately L-2.75 inches long.

The six-speed manual is central to the Si experience, so it is a poor match if you need an automatic. Fuel use, insurance, maintenance and local purchase price also affect whether it works for your daily routine.

Does the 10th-gen Civic Si have Honda Sensing?

Honda says Honda Sensing became standard on the 2020 Si. Its feature guide states that the suite is standard on every 2020 Civic Si Sedan. For a 2017–2019 car, or a coupe, verify the exact equipment rather than assuming the sedan’s 2020 feature list applies.

What fuel and mileage should you expect?

For the 2017 Civic Si, Honda published U.S. EPA estimates of 28 mpg city, 38 highway and 32 combined. Those are comparison estimates, not a promise of real-world mileage; driving, maintenance and conditions affect actual results. Honda’s 2017 powertrain page recommends premium unleaded. Honda’s 2020 launch materials describe regular unleaded as required and premium as recommended, so do not treat premium as mandatory for every model year. Consult the owner’s manual for the specific car.

What should you check before buying a used Civic Si?

  1. Review the car’s history and condition. Ask for service documentation and check accident and title history. Arrange an independent pre-purchase inspection.
  2. Confirm its year-specific equipment. Decide whether the 2020 safety and lighting updates or the 2019 physical audio and climate controls matter to you, then verify that the actual car has the features you expect.
  3. Match the body style to your needs. Compare sedan and coupe access, rear-seat use and cargo requirements. Do not assume features listed in Honda’s 2020 Si Sedan guide apply to a coupe or an earlier model.
  4. Ask about modifications and records. Establish whether the car has been altered and request documentation. The available manufacturer information does not quantify how modifications affect failure rates, so an altered car is a reason to investigate its history—not proof of a particular risk.
  5. Calculate ownership costs using your circumstances. Check current local asking prices, insurance, maintenance needs and fuel preference. The published 2017 EPA rating is historical and cannot tell you what a particular used car will achieve.

Is it really budget-friendly?

That depends on local listings, the car’s condition, its history and the cost of ownership for you. No current used-market asking price or transaction value is established here, and the available Honda materials do not provide independent reliability rates. Compare specific cars rather than relying on the Si badge or model year alone.
