The best 2018–2022 Honda Accord is not automatically the newest one. Buy the individual car with the cleanest history, documented maintenance, completed recalls and a condition-appropriate price. Pick the 1.5T for efficiency, the 2.0T for stronger acceleration, or the hybrid for the lowest EPA-rated fuel use.
What counts as a 10th-generation Accord?
This guide covers U.S.-market 2018 through 2022 Accords. Honda offered three main powertrain choices during this generation: a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder, a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder and a two-motor hybrid system. The 1.5T normally uses a continuously variable transmission (CVT); 2.0T models generally use a 10-speed automatic, while certain Sport versions were available with a six-speed manual.

Choose the 1.5T when fuel economy, a lower purchase cost and ordinary commuting matter more than maximum acceleration. A clean VIN, complete service history and an untroubled test drive are essential, just as they are with the other engines.

When to choose the 2.0T
The 2.0T’s 252 horsepower and 10-speed automatic suit buyers who regularly merge onto fast roads, carry passengers or simply prefer stronger response. The official 2020 ratings show a meaningful fuel-economy penalty versus many 1.5T trims.
When the hybrid is the right answer
The hybrid has the highest listed fuel economy in Honda’s 2020 table. Ask for documentation of battery-system servicing and check that the car behaves normally in electric and gasoline operation during the drive. A hybrid’s condition and records matter more than choosing a particular model year.

Trim levels and equipment
Equipment changed by year, engine and package, so verify a specific vehicle by VIN and window sticker rather than relying on a trim name alone. Honda’s 2020 equipment table identifies these broad differences:

Safety equipment and crash-rating context
Honda’s 2022 Accord feature guide states that every trim includes the Honda Sensing suite as standard equipment. The same guide reports a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for the 2022 Accord. Equipment and ratings for an earlier model year should be checked against that year’s documentation.
Recalls to check before buying
Fuel-pump campaigns deserve particular attention. Honda’s bulletin for 2019–2020 Accord 1.5T vehicles describes a fuel-pump impeller that can swell, seize the pump, prevent starting or cause a stall; the listed remedy is fuel-pump-motor replacement. A separate bulletin covers 2018–2019 Accord 2.0L vehicles with the same failure mode and remedy. A later Honda/NHTSA notice describes a broader 2018–2020 Accord campaign involving improperly molded impellers that may deform and make the pump inoperative.

- Request a repair order or dealer record showing that every applicable fuel-pump campaign is closed.
- If a campaign remains open, have the repair completed before taking ownership or reflect the unresolved safety work in a written purchase agreement.
Warranty and service-record reality
American Honda’s 2018 factsheet says all 2018 Honda vehicles were covered by a 3-year/36,000-mile limited warranty. The original time-and-mileage coverage is no longer something to assume on a used 2018–2022 car. Ask the seller to provide any remaining certified, powertrain or third-party coverage in writing, including its expiration date, mileage limit, deductibles and transfer rules.

Inspection checklist for a used Accord
- Decode the VIN. Confirm the model year, engine, trim and drivetrain against the advertisement and title.
- Run both recall searches. Save the results and obtain completion records, especially for fuel-pump campaigns.
- Start it cold. Watch for warning lights, extended cranking, hesitation, rough running or any stalling symptom.
- Inspect mechanical condition. Check fluid levels and leaks, tires, brakes, suspension, air-conditioning operation and visible underbody damage.
- Test electronics. Verify the infotainment screen, phone integration, cameras, climate controls and every driver-assistance alert.
- Review the paper trail. Compare the title, accident and ownership history with maintenance invoices and inspection records.
- Compare total value. Weigh mileage, condition, equipment, required repairs and warranty against similarly equipped local cars; do not use model year alone.
Which year is most reliable?
There is no authoritative, standardized reliability ranking in the available official material that establishes one 2018–2022 year as the winner. That makes a documented, recall-complete example more defensible than a newer car with missing records. Compare service intervals, ownership history, accident evidence, inspection results and VIN-specific campaigns for each candidate.

Start with the powertrain that matches your priorities, then let condition and documentation decide between otherwise similar cars. The 1.5T is the efficiency choice, the 2.0T delivers the most conventional performance, and the hybrid offers Honda’s highest listed 2020 EPA mileage. Regardless of engine, do not buy until the VIN is decoded, recalls are closed, the car passes a cold-start and road test, and its history and remaining coverage are documented.
