It is what kind of motorcycle you want that engine to power. This list covers ten worthwhile choices across heavyweight American cruisers, modern liquid-cooled performance cruisers, a compact bobber, and Ducati’s sport-oriented V2 machines.
If you are shopping for a 2025 V-twin motorcycle, start by deciding what “V-twin” means to you. This engine layout spans everything from heavyweight American cruisers and low-seat bobbers to liquid-cooled performance machines and Ducati sportbikes that share little beyond their two-cylinder configuration.

That is why this list does not attempt to name one objectively best motorcycle. Instead, it covers ten motorcycles that represent the most important interpretations of the V-twin formula: traditional air-cooled cruisers, modern liquid-cooled performance cruisers, lightweight custom-style bikes, and 90-degree Ducati V2 sportbikes.
Specifications below reflect the manufacturers’ published 2025-model information. Horsepower and torque figures are not directly comparable across brands because manufacturers may use different testing methods. The list also does not establish which motorcycle is fastest, most reliable, best-handling, or most comfortable without independent testing.

Published weight terminology differs by manufacturer, so “running order,” “wet,” and “wet without fuel” should not be treated as identical measurements.
1. Harley-Davidson Low Rider S
The 2025 Low Rider S is the performance-forward Harley-Davidson in this group. Its Milwaukee-Eight 117 High Output V-twin is listed at 114 horsepower and 128 lb-ft of torque, giving the motorcycle a stronger factory performance emphasis than a purely relaxed cruiser.
The equipment reinforces that positioning. The Low Rider S includes selectable Road, Rain, and Sport ride modes, Rider Safety Enhancements, all-LED lighting, and a four-inch instrument display. A mini-fairing, solo seat, inverted front fork, and two-into-one exhaust give it a more aggressive custom-cruiser identity.

Why it deserves attention: It is a logical choice for someone who wants recognizable Harley styling without automatically choosing the most traditional touring-oriented setup. The Sport mode and inverted fork are particularly relevant to buyers who want the motorcycle’s performance hardware and electronics to be part of the ownership experience.
Watch before buying: The manufacturer’s output and equipment figures do not prove how quickly the bike accelerates, stops, or corners in the real world. Those questions require independent testing.
2. Harley-Davidson Sportster S
The Sportster S uses the liquid-cooled Revolution Max 1250T V-twin rather than a traditional air-cooled Harley engine. Harley-Davidson lists 121 hp and 93 lb-ft, making this the highest claimed horsepower figure among the Harley models in this selection.
Its specification includes adjustable 43 mm inverted forks, Brembo brakes, cruise control, rider-assistance electronics, and 3.2 inches of rear-wheel travel. That combination makes the Sportster S a modern performance interpretation of the Sportster name rather than a simple continuation of the older air-cooled formula.

Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Why it deserves attention: It suits riders who want a compact Harley with current liquid-cooled engine technology and a more performance-oriented character. It is also a useful alternative for buyers who like the Low Rider S’s intent but prefer the Revolution Max platform.
Watch before buying: Engine output is only part of the fit question. The forward-control layout affects riding posture, while the listed 3.5-inch ground clearance is an important practical consideration. Buyers should evaluate ergonomics and clearance rather than choosing solely on the 121-hp figure.
3. Harley-Davidson Nightster
The Nightster is the accessible and relatively lightweight Harley in this group. Its liquid-cooled Revolution Max 975T V-twin is listed at 91 hp and 72 lb-ft, and Harley lists a 481-pound running weight with a 27.1-inch laden seat height.

It also includes selectable ride modes, LED lighting, a two-into-one exhaust, and a four-inch display. The low seat and smaller 975T engine make it a more approachable proposition than Harley’s heavyweight models, although “lightweight” is relative: this is still a full-size street motorcycle, not a small-displacement standard bike.
Why it deserves attention: It is aimed at riders attracted to Sportster styling who put a lower seat, lower mass, and smaller displacement ahead of maximum engine output. The Nightster can make more sense than a larger cruiser when parking-lot maneuvering and seat height are major concerns.
Watch before buying: The standard Nightster is primarily a solo-oriented choice in this comparison. If carrying a passenger or adding more equipment matters, the Nightster Special is the more relevant version.
4. Harley-Davidson Nightster Special
The Nightster Special uses the same Revolution Max 975T V-twin and retains the published 91-hp and 72-lb-ft figures. It should therefore be viewed as a more equipped variation of the Nightster platform, not as a completely different motorcycle.
Harley-Davidson lists a 483-pound running weight, passenger pillion and footpegs, a mini-fairing, ride modes, and rider-safety technology. Those additions shift the model toward riders who want the Nightster’s low-seat format but need more two-up capability and equipment.
Why it deserves attention: It occupies a useful middle ground. The Special keeps the compact, modern Harley engine while adding features that make it more practical for occasional passenger use and longer day rides.
Watch before buying: The two-pound difference in listed running weight compared with the standard Nightster is not the important distinction. The real buying questions are passenger equipment, cockpit protection, technology, and whether the extra specification justifies the model’s price in your market.
5. Harley-Davidson Fat Boy
The Fat Boy is the heavyweight, visually imposing Harley in this selection. The 2025 model uses the Milwaukee-Eight 117 Custom V-twin, with Harley-Davidson listing 104 hp and 126 lb-ft of torque.
Its other numbers explain the motorcycle’s character. The Fat Boy has a five-gallon fuel tank, a 25.9-inch laden seat height, and a 694-pound running weight. It also uses a wide 240-series rear tire and has the substantial physical presence associated with the model.

Watch before buying: The 694-pound running weight must be treated as a central ownership consideration. A low seat does not make a motorcycle easy to push, catch, reverse, or maneuver at every speed. Anyone prioritizing easy low-speed handling should compare it in person with lighter alternatives.
6. Indian 101 Scout
The Indian 101 Scout is the clearest performance-focused cruiser in the Indian lineup represented here. Indian specifies a 1,250cc liquid-cooled 60-degree V-twin producing 111 hp and 82 lb-ft of torque, with a 549-pound running weight.
The chassis and electronics are important parts of the case. The 101 Scout includes an inverted cartridge fork, dual front brakes with four-piston radial calipers, selectable ride modes, traction control, cruise control, and a six-speed transmission.
Recommended Free Tools
Why it deserves attention: On the manufacturer’s published specifications, it makes a strong power-to-weight and equipment argument while retaining a low-slung cruiser format. It is a compelling candidate for riders who want cruiser ergonomics and styling without giving up modern braking, suspension, and electronic features.
Watch before buying: The 3.4-gallon fuel capacity is modest, and Indian lists a 33-degree lean angle. Neither figure automatically predicts real-world range or cornering performance, but both are useful reminders to evaluate the bike as an ownership tool rather than as a list of engine numbers.
7. Indian Chief Dark Horse
The Chief Dark Horse represents the traditional large-displacement Indian interpretation of the V-twin. Its air-cooled Thunderstroke 116 measures 116 cubic inches and is listed at 120 lb-ft of torque.
The motorcycle combines classic American-cruiser proportions with current equipment. Indian lists a 26-inch seat height, 670-pound running order, 4.0-gallon fuel capacity, three ride modes, keyless ignition, and a four-inch RIDE COMMAND display.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

Watch before buying: The low seat can make the Chief Dark Horse appealing to shorter riders, but it does not make the motorcycle light. Its 670-pound running order remains a major consideration when moving the bike around a garage or dealing with uneven parking surfaces.
8. Yamaha Bolt R-Spec
The Yamaha Bolt R-Spec is the straightforward bobber-style option. Yamaha lists a 942cc air-cooled 60-degree V-twin, a 542-pound wet weight, a 27.2-inch seat height, and a 61.8-inch wheelbase.

- DOT-Certified Security: This VEVOR full face motorcycle helmet meets DOT standards, featuring a high-strength ABS shell, EPS impact-absorbing layer, and soft inner lining to help disperse impact forces during riding
- Interchangeable Outer Visor: Our adult dirt bike helmet includes a pre-installed clear visor for an unobstructed view and an extra replacement tinted visor for glare reduction. Features a tool-free quick-swap system for fast changes in varying light conditions
- Comfort-Focused Design: Bluetooth speaker pockets and eyeglass-friendly fit provide added convenience. And the sweat-wicking liner is removable, washable to keep the interior fresh and clean
- Multi-Vent Ventilation: The motorcycle street bike helmet features a multi-vent design that promotes smooth airflow, helping reduce heat and fogging for clearer vision and a more comfortable ride
- Secure Fit: Full-coverage chin protection enhances safety, soft cheek pads conform to facial contours for a stable fit, and the balanced weight design helps reduce neck strain during long rides
Its appeal is less about an extensive electronics package and more about a stripped-down urban-performance bobber character. Yamaha’s positioning emphasizes low- to mid-range torque and a compact format, making the Bolt a useful counterpoint to the larger Harley and Indian cruisers.
Why it deserves attention: It is a sensible candidate for riders who want V-twin character and bobber styling without moving straight into a heavyweight, high-displacement American cruiser. The compact dimensions and relatively low seat also make it worth considering for urban use.
Watch before buying: Yamaha’s published page does not present the same level of electronic-equipment detail shown on the newer Indian and Harley models. Do not assume feature parity simply because all of these motorcycles use a V-twin engine.
9. Ducati Panigale V2
The Panigale V2 proves that a V-twin—or, in Ducati’s terminology, a 90-degree V2—does not have to mean cruiser. The 2025 Panigale V2 uses an 890cc engine rated at 120 hp and 69 lb-ft, with Ducati listing 395 pounds for the standard version.
This is a full sportbike, not a cruiser with aggressive bodywork. The Panigale has a full fairing, adjustable suspension, Brembo M50 calipers, and a five-inch TFT display. Its electronic package includes cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, engine-brake control, and Ducati Quickshift 2.0.

Why it deserves attention: Riders seeking advanced electronics, track-capable braking hardware, and a fully faired performance motorcycle should put it in a separate category from the American cruisers. Its V2 architecture is part of a sportbike package whose riding position, controls, and priorities are fundamentally different.
Watch before buying: Do not compare the Panigale with the Fat Boy or Chief Dark Horse by seat height, torque, or styling alone. The relevant question is whether you want a dedicated sportbike mission, including its more demanding riding position and performance focus.
10. Ducati Streetfighter V2
The Streetfighter V2 uses the same new 890cc 90-degree Ducati V2 family as the Panigale V2. Ducati lists 120 hp and 69 lb-ft, along with a 386-pound wet weight without fuel and a 33-inch seat height.
Instead of a full fairing, the Streetfighter uses an exposed naked-bike layout with a wide variable-section handlebar. It also features a monocoque frame, adjustable suspension, and a five-inch TFT display.
Why it deserves attention: It gives riders Ducati V2 performance and electronics in a more upright, open presentation than the Panigale. The absence of a full fairing also creates a distinct visual and functional identity for riders who prefer naked performance motorcycles.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which 2025 V-twin should you choose?
Choose the Indian 101 Scout for a performance cruiser
On published specifications, the 101 Scout is the strongest match for a rider seeking a low-slung cruiser with modern suspension, serious front-brake hardware, ride modes, traction control, cruise control, and a comparatively manageable listed weight. That makes it a specification-based recommendation, not a claim that it will outperform every rival in independent testing.
Choose between the Low Rider S and Sportster S for a modern performance Harley
The choice comes down largely to engine family and design direction. The Low Rider S combines the Milwaukee-Eight 117 High Output engine with a more traditional Harley custom-cruiser shape. The Sportster S uses the liquid-cooled Revolution Max 1250T and presents a more modern, compact performance interpretation. Compare their seating position, controls, ground clearance, and intended use before comparing horsepower.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteConsider the Nightster, Nightster Special, or Bolt R-Spec for a lower-seat format
The Harley Nightster models and Yamaha Bolt R-Spec all have listed seat heights near 27 inches, but manufacturer measurement conventions may differ. The Nightster is the lighter Harley choice in this group, the Nightster Special adds passenger equipment and technology, and the Bolt takes a simpler air-cooled bobber approach.
Choose the Fat Boy or Chief Dark Horse for heavyweight traditional cruising
Both motorcycles appeal to buyers who want substantial American-cruiser proportions and strong published torque. The Fat Boy lists 694 pounds in running order, while the Chief Dark Horse lists 670 pounds. Those numbers should be part of the decision from the beginning, not a footnote discovered after purchase.
Choose the Panigale V2 for a faired sportbike or the Streetfighter V2 for a naked bike
These Ducatis are not alternatives to the cruisers in an ergonomic sense. The Panigale is the fully faired choice; the Streetfighter is the naked, more exposed alternative. Select between them based on body position, wind protection, and intended road or track use—not simply because both have a V2 engine.
Choose the Bolt R-Spec for a simpler bobber-style motorcycle
The Yamaha is the clearest choice here if your priority is a compact, stripped-down motorcycle with an air-cooled 942cc V-twin and fewer assumptions about electronic feature parity. Its appeal is simplicity and proportion rather than maximum output or the most elaborate technology package.
Ownership details that matter more than a spec-sheet ranking
- Weight: Running-order weights are especially important for riders who regularly park on slopes, reverse into tight spaces, or lack a flat garage. The low seat on a heavyweight cruiser does not eliminate the mass.
- Seat height: Published seat measurements are useful for initial screening, but reach also depends on seat width, suspension sag, rider inseam, and footwear. Sit on the exact motorcycle before treating a listed number as a guarantee.
- Fuel capacity: A larger tank does not automatically mean longer real-world range, and a smaller tank does not establish a specific riding distance. Engine tune, speed, traffic, riding style, and test methodology all matter.
- Final drive: Confirm whether the particular motorcycle uses a belt, chain, or another final-drive arrangement before buying maintenance products. A chain-cleaning and lubrication kit is not a universal accessory for this list.
- Electronics: Ride modes, traction control, cornering ABS, cruise control, and displays vary considerably. Verify the exact trim and model year rather than assuming equipment from a related motorcycle carries over.
- Fit and mission: A forward-control cruiser, a low-seat bobber, a naked sportbike, and a fully faired sportbike can all use two-cylinder V-shaped engines while delivering completely different riding experiences.
Before you put down a deposit
- Decide whether your priority is cruiser torque, low-speed manageability, passenger use, simplified equipment, or sportbike performance.
- Compare the exact trim’s seat height, listed weight, fuel capacity, ground clearance, and final-drive type.
- Perform a stationary fit check: reach the controls, turn the bars, lift the bike off its stand if appropriate, and assess whether you can comfortably move it.
- Confirm the model year, trim name, standard equipment, destination or dealer charges, and current price with the manufacturer or an authorized seller.
- Check current local inventory and accessory compatibility separately. Manufacturer specifications, pricing, inventory, and available equipment can change after publication.
The most important takeaway is that there is no single “best” V-twin for 2025. The Indian 101 Scout and Harley Low Rider S make the strongest specification-based cases for performance-oriented cruising; the Nightster family and Bolt R-Spec address lower-seat and simpler-bike priorities; the Fat Boy and Chief Dark Horse deliver heavyweight traditional-cruiser presence; and the Panigale V2 and Streetfighter V2 show how far the same basic engine layout can move into sportbike territory.
Frequently Asked Questions
The Indian 101 Scout is the strongest specification-based performance-cruiser candidate in this group, with a listed 111 hp, 549-pound running weight, inverted fork, radial four-piston front calipers, ride modes, traction control, and cruise control. That does not replace independent testing of acceleration, braking, or handling.
Which 2025 V-twin is the best performance cruiser?
The Harley-Davidson Fat Boy has the lowest listed laden seat height at 25.9 inches. The Harley Nightster and Nightster Special are listed at 27.1 inches, the Yamaha Bolt R-Spec at 27.2 inches, and the Indian Chief Dark Horse at 26 inches. Manufacturer measurement methods can differ, so riders should sit on the exact motorcycle.
Which of these V-twin motorcycles has the lowest seat?
No. They are performance motorcycles using Ducati’s 90-degree V2 architecture. The Panigale V2 is fully faired, while the Streetfighter V2 is a naked bike with a wide handlebar. Their riding positions and intended uses are fundamentally different from the cruiser models in this list.
