The clearest quantified examples are the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, Toyota Sienna hybrid and Toyota Corolla Hybrid. They serve different needs—and the Sienna is a minivan while the Corolla is a sedan—so treat this as a practical shortlist, not a like-for-like ranking.
What the resale figures do—and don’t—show
iSeeCars’ 2026 depreciation study examined more than 950,000 five-year-old used cars sold from March 2025 through February 2026. Across the full study, the average car lost 41.8% of its value over five years. That is an all-vehicle average, not a hybrid-only or SUV-only benchmark. See iSeeCars’ 2026 depreciation study.
Retention percentages from different studies are not directly interchangeable. A five-year used-market result and a three-year analysis of another model-year cohort measure different periods and populations. Kelley Blue Book’s resale awards, meanwhile, are projections for new 2026 model-year vehicles over their first five years of ownership—not observed resale prices for used hybrid trims.
Three hybrids with published retention figures
| Model | Published result | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Toyota RAV4 Hybrid | 75.4% five-year retained value in the surfaced 2026 iSeeCars hybrid-SUV ranking; another crawl surfaced 69.2%, so the figure is unsettled. | Compact SUV/crossover. Edmunds separately reported 81.4% of original value after three years for used 2023 RAV4 Hybrids in its 2026 analysis. |
| Toyota Sienna hybrid | 74.6% five-year retained value in iSeeCars’ 2026 hybrid-car ranking; reported average five-year used price: $35,494. | Minivan, not an SUV. The published price is an average for that study, not a quote for a particular vehicle. |
| Toyota Corolla Hybrid | 69.2% five-year retained value in iSeeCars’ 2026 hybrid-car ranking; reported average five-year used price: $19,228. | Sedan, not an SUV. The published price is an average for that study, not a quote for a particular vehicle. |
Because iSeeCars’ surfaced RAV4 Hybrid figures conflict, verify the current model result on its hybrid SUV ranking before relying on a precise percentage. The Sienna and Corolla figures come from iSeeCars’ hybrid-car ranking. Edmunds’ separate three-year result is reported by the Associated Press; it should not be compared as if it were a five-year result.

Seven more used-hybrid candidates to shop by fit
The evidence available for this shortlist does not establish comparable five-year retention percentages for seven additional models. These are candidates to research against your needs, not claims that each has a verified resale rank above most SUVs. Confirm the exact vehicle’s hybrid type, model year, asking price and condition before comparing it with the three quantified examples.
- Honda CR-V Hybrid: A compact SUV option for buyers who want an SUV body style. KBB named the CR-V among its 2025 Best Resale Value Award top-ten winners, but that award does not establish a hybrid-trim-specific used-market percentage.
- Toyota Prius: A hybrid hatchback for shoppers who prioritize passenger-car packaging. Compare the exact model year and trim rather than assuming a single value applies across generations.
- Honda Accord Hybrid: A midsize sedan alternative. Check the asking price, mileage and equipment against comparable Accord Hybrid listings from the same model year.
- Hyundai Elantra Hybrid: A compact-sedan candidate. Verify that the listing is the hybrid version and review the vehicle’s service and ownership history.
- Ford Escape Hybrid: A compact SUV candidate. Compare it with same-year, similar-mileage examples and account for condition and equipment.
- Kia Sportage Hybrid: A compact SUV candidate for shoppers needing SUV seating and cargo flexibility. Do not infer a resale percentage from the model name alone.
- Hyundai Tucson Hybrid: Another compact SUV option. Check model-year-specific fuel economy, safety information and warranty coverage alongside market price.
KBB’s 2026 Best Resale Value Awards are projections for 2026 model-year vehicles over their first five years, while its 2025 awards announcement names the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 among top-ten winners. These awards support considering the models, but they do not substantiate used hybrid-trim retention figures.

How to choose the right used hybrid
Start with the vehicle’s job
Choose the body style that suits your daily use before comparing resale claims. The Sienna is a minivan, the Corolla Hybrid is a sedan, and the RAV4 Hybrid is an SUV/crossover. Passenger capacity, cargo needs and parking constraints can matter more than a small difference in a study’s retention percentage.
Compare like with like
- Match model year, trim, mileage, region and condition as closely as possible.
- Compare the actual asking price and vehicle history; a high retained-value percentage does not automatically make a particular listing inexpensive.
- Check fuel economy for the exact model year and trim, plus safety information and reliability evidence.
- Review remaining factory coverage and the specific certified-pre-owned warranty terms. CPO coverage varies by program and vehicle.
Keep hybrid types distinct
Conventional hybrids and plug-in hybrids are not the same buying proposition. Confirm the listing’s powertrain rather than treating every vehicle described as a hybrid as interchangeable; the figures cited above do not establish a plug-in-hybrid comparison.
