The Lightning LS-218 combines eye-catching performance claims with premium motorcycle hardware, several battery and charging choices, and a competition history the company traces to Bonneville and Pikes Peak. Here are 10 things that stand out—with the important distinction that the performance figures and racing claims below come from Lightning, not an independent test.
1. Its 218-mph claim has a specific purpose
Lightning’s 2024 brochure lists a top speed of 218 mph (350 kph), but its footnote ties that figure to land-speed-record gearing and fairings. It is a specialized manufacturer claim, not a representative street-riding speed. Lightning separately recounts Bonneville record activity in its company history.
2. The power figures are impressive—and clearly labeled
Lightning’s current LS-218 product page lists 244 horsepower and 220 ft-lb of torque. Its 2024 brochure distinguishes 263 hp measured at the motor shaft from 244 hp at the rear wheel, so the measurement location matters when reading or comparing the numbers.
3. Öhlins suspension gives the spec sheet serious hardware
Lightning lists an Öhlins FGRT inverted front fork and an Öhlins TTX36 rear shock. Its brochure says the suspension was developed with Lightning engineers. Those are specific, recognizable components rather than generic descriptions of an upgraded suspension.

4. The brake package is named, not vague
The product page specifies Brembo 320 mm discs and radial-mount four-piston calipers. The brochure describes Brembo Racing GP4 monoblock brakes. Those descriptions come from different Lightning materials; they should not be treated as interchangeable component specifications without checking the bike’s exact configuration.
5. Battery options make the range story more flexible
Lightning’s current product page pairs three battery capacities with company-stated ranges:

These are manufacturer figures, not a single directly comparable real-world test. A separate 2024 SEC-filed audit report describes 140 miles at freeway speeds of 65–70 mph. That stated highway context is different from the product-page range claims, and the figures should not be compared as though they were measured under identical conditions.
6. Charging options offer more than one route
Lightning’s product page lists charge times to 80% of 12 minutes using its LFCS, 35 minutes with Level 3, and 120 minutes with Level 2. Its 2024 brochure identifies CCS Level 3 DC fast charging, J1772 Level 2, and NACS J3400 compatibility. These are company-published specifications; actual compatibility and charging time depend on the motorcycle configuration and charging equipment. Check the specific model and included equipment before treating a connector or charge time as guaranteed.

7. The chassis details suggest a purpose-built machine
Lightning lists forged 7075 aluminum wheels, a billet aluminum swingarm, and chain final drive. The same product page gives a weight of 495 lb and a 32-inch seat height. Those numbers and materials offer a more concrete sense of the LS-218’s layout than a broad label such as “premium superbike.”

Lightning’s 2024 brochure lists a Corbin premium saddle, Pirelli Diablo SuperCorsa tires, LED lights, and rear wheel spools. The tire model is especially helpful information for owners planning replacement tires, but dimensions and exact fitment should be confirmed for the motorcycle’s model year and configuration.

9. It has a competition story behind the name
Lightning says customer motorcycle deliveries began in 2016 and recounts Bonneville and Pikes Peak milestones on its company history page. Its current product page also claims that the LS-218 set multiple land-speed records, won at Le Mans, and won against the fastest gas race bikes at Pikes Peak. These are the manufacturer’s historical claims, not independent verification.
10. The displayed price is specific, but not fixed
Lightning’s current LS-218 order form shows a starting price of $19,998 and lists paid options. The form warns that prices and availability can change, so confirm the current price, configuration, and availability directly with the company before making a purchase decision.
