Before choosing one, check the trim’s base price and equipment, whether you need seven or eight seats, and how Toyota’s fuel-economy and towing estimates fit your use.
1. The 2026 lineup has three hybrid trims
Toyota lists the XLE, Limited, and Platinum. Their published base MSRPs are shown below; these are not local transaction prices and do not include taxes, options, or local offers. Toyota’s specifications apply to mainland U.S. vehicles, and equipment may vary by region, trim, and vehicle. Check Toyota’s 2026 specifications for the exact vehicle and market.

All three trims have a Toyota-estimated 35 mpg combined. These are manufacturer estimates, not independent real-world test results.
2. All hybrid trims have standard AWD
Toyota says all 2026 Highlander Hybrid grades come with all-wheel drive. Its hybrid AWD system uses a separate electric motor mounted at the rear to power the rear wheels when needed. That is distinct from the front hybrid system; it is not a claim that the vehicle is always driving all four wheels. Toyota’s 2026 model announcement describes the system.

3. Choose between seven and eight seats
The Highlander Hybrid has three rows. Toyota describes seating for up to seven as standard, with an optional second-row bench that raises capacity to eight on XLE and Limited grades. The seat configuration is vehicle-specific, so verify the actual cabin layout rather than relying on the trim name alone. Toyota’s 2026 announcement outlines the seating options.
4. Toyota rates towing at up to 3,500 pounds
Toyota publishes a maximum towing capacity of up to 3,500 pounds for the Highlander Hybrid. Before towing, consult the owner’s manual and check the specific vehicle’s installed equipment and configuration for applicable requirements. The published maximum is not a substitute for those instructions.

5. The hybrid system combines gasoline and electric power
The Highlander Hybrid is not an all-electric vehicle: Toyota describes a system in which a gasoline engine and motor-generators work with a hybrid battery. Toyota reports 243 net combined horsepower, a manufacturer specification rather than an independent performance test. The rear electric motor used for AWD can power the rear wheels when needed.
6. The battery is under the second-row seats
Toyota places the hybrid battery beneath the second-row seats and says this packaging does not take away cargo or passenger space. That location is useful to know when considering the cabin layout and how the hybrid system is packaged.

Toyota says EV mode enables electric-only driving at low speeds for short distances. It does not make the Highlander Hybrid a plug-in hybrid, and Toyota’s description does not promise extended electric-only range. The vehicle’s hybrid system still uses gasoline.
8. Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ includes driver-assistance features
Toyota identifies Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ features including pre-collision assistance with pedestrian detection, dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert, lane tracing assist, road sign assist, and automatic high beams. Toyota cautions that availability can vary by vehicle or trim, so confirm the equipment on the specific vehicle. These are driver-assistance functions, not autonomous driving. 9. Warranty terms differ by vehicle and hybrid components
Toyota lists separate coverage periods for the vehicle and hybrid components. For the applicable terms and exclusions, consult the warranty guide for the exact model year and vehicle.

Toyota’s model-year-specific owner-manual page includes an interactive manual with topics such as fuel-consumption information, safety, and vehicle indicators.
